Avery's POV
The last couple of weeks have been hell for me. My girlfriend broke up with me for some frat boy and my mom and Monica have been giving each other all of their attention and cuddled up in the theater room. I wanted to ask what was going on with the two of them because with them being up under each other all the time, I wasn't getting any attention.
Right now, I was sitting in the game room playing a game to distract myself from the fact that both of my favorite people were pretty much shacking up together right up under my nose. I also just wanted them to tell me that they were a couple as well, I already know. I see the way my mom looks at Mon when we're sitting in the living room doing our homework when she thought no one was looking/paying attention. I saw the pure undeniable love that she has for her and vice versa, for example when Mon came over the day after her party and took care of my mom and her hangover. I wanted them to end up together and I know that's a little strange but I wanted them to want the same and not be afraid of what anyone thinks, myself included.
I wandered around the house for a little bit once I got bored with video games. It was Saturday, which meant no basketball for Monica, no work for my mom , and nothing to do for me except be ignored. I peeked into the theater room and sure enough, both of them were in there watching their show. In order to make it so that we all spent some time together, I cut on the lights in the room causing the projector to turn off along with the show.
"What the hell?!" I heard Monica shout from the front row.
"Get your asses up, we're spending the rest of the day in the hot tub," I shouted to both of them.
"Avery, I swear to the lord above that you're a little shit head," my mom stood up and stretched.
"Wow mom, that hurts. Now, come on you little vampires, let's get some sun," I waited for them to both head my direction.
"Kiss my ass," Monica flipped me off, causing my mom to giggle.
"You're both childish. Go get your suits on and y'all better be outside within the next ten minutes," I glared at them and walked to my room to get changed.
I was honestly hoping to catch them in the act of kissing or something. I could see the hickey my mom was trying to cover up on her neck and I had to give it to Monica, not even my dad was allowed to do that when he was in the picture, so for my mom to let her means something.
Monica's POV
We were currently in Kayla's closet after Avery so rudely bullied us into getting in the hot tub with him. It's been a couple of weeks since Kayla and I made our secret relationship official. All has been going good, instead of jumping each other all the time like I personally wanted to, we settled for starting a tv show to keep us both busy. It did make me sad though because instead of me coming over and Kayla being in a robe and some heels, she was always covered up, but either way she was extremely beautiful. I turned to her and just admired her as she was slipping on her swimsuit cover.
"You do know that for the thousandth time, that it's rude to stare, right?" she faced me with her hands on her hips.
"I know, I'm sorry, but you are literally so gorgeous. I truly can't help myself," I shrugged.
"Smooth, very smooth babe," she chuckled and came to wrap her arms around my neck.
"You are much shorter without heels on," I laughed, wrapping my arms around her waist.
"If you tell me that one more time, I'm gonna pull one out and hit you with it," she rolled her eyes.
"I'm just kidding baby. But guess what!" I looked at her with a grin.
"What you goofball," she pulled away to slip on her pool slides.
"Basketball season officially starts on Monday!" I cheered.
"That's great sweetie! Does that mean that I get my house back?" she joked.
"Oh you're so funny. That means I'll be tired as hell all the time, which also means once I get home after practice, shower, and then do homework, I'll be out like a light every night," I explained.
"Dammit, so that means going back to boredom every night after work," she pouted.
"Kayla, you'll see me on the weekends. I might fall asleep on you, but you'll see me," I kissed her nose.
"Mmm, okay, okay. We should probably go outside before my son decides to throw a fit," she chuckled.
"You're right. Let's go. He probably feels a little neglected," I looped my arm through hers and escorted her out the closet and outside.
when we made it out to the backyard, Avery was just sitting with his feet in the pool, waiting for us with his head down, looking at the water. He looked really sad, like he had a lot on his mind. Letting go of Kayla's arms, I told her to wait where she was so I could go and have a moment with him.
"Hey bud, what's wrong?" I sat down next to him.
"She broke up with me Mon and you don't really spend time with me anymore, you're always hanging out with my mom. I don't know what hurts the most," he looked at me with tears in his eyes.
"Avery, I'm sorry. I really am. I didn't realize I was hurting you this much by hanging out with her," i reached out and took one of his hands.
Pulling away, he looked at me and then over to his mom, "you're both hurting me, hurting me by lying to me daily."
"Avery, baby what're you talking about," Kayla approached.
"I'm not dumb you guys," he looked between the both of us.
"Still don't follow honey," Kayla sat next to us.
"Are you guys together?" he asked.
I looked at Kayla, who looked back at me, then we both looked at Avery who had an eyebrow raised. With a sigh, Kayla ran a hand over her face, "yes, we're together honey."
"How long?" he looked me in the eyes.
"A few weeks, um since the day after the party," I looked at him and sighed.
He nodded, then looked at his hands for a second, then I saw a small smile and tear roll down his face, "it's about damn time. Y'all been driving me insane since school started, almost three months now!"
"What do you mean, it's about time?" Kayla raised one of her perfectly arched eyebrows, making her look oh so sexy.
"Meaning, you look at Monica like you want to jump her bones and have been looking at her like that since the first day of school," he countered by raising one of his eyebrows as well.
I choked back my laughter, "jump my bones huh?" I looked over at Kayla with a smirk.
"Oh fuck off," she laughed and pushed me into the freezing pool water.
"I h-h-hate y-y-you!" I stuttered from the chills running over my body.
"Oh yeah, it's definitely about time. You guys never had to hide it from me you know," Avery looked at his mom with a small smile.
"i'm sorry we did baby. It's just that we didn't want to upset you," she took his hands in hers.
"I never would've been upset As long as you're both happy, that's all that matters to me."
"Well you were kind of a butthead to Mon whenever she would flirt playfully, we wanted to wait to tell you."
"Yeah bro, how were we supposed to know that you would ship us in the first place? And she's your mom, how was I as your best friend supposed to approach you firsthand and confess I wanted to be with her in a romantic manner?" I made my way out of the pool.
He gave that some thought and just nodded, getting up and got in the hot tub. I looked at Kayla and smiled like a dummy, my best friend, the one person other than my sister I told everything to finally knew what I've been wanting to tell him for so long.
