"Can you hurry up Em? We don't have all day you know?" My friend, Sally with curly red hair called out to me impatiently from the lounge room where she was waiting along with my other friend Riley who was blonde and equally as impatient. I was frantically running around my room collecting different clothes and utility products. We were supposed to leave for camp about twenty minutes ago. It was a two hour drive, three if there was traffic. I always did this, left things until the last minute, homework, projects, replying to someone, you name it.

"Yeah I'm nearly finished just give me two more minutes I swear!" I yelled out in response.

"You said that ten minutes ago!" I heard Riley yell out.

"I'm almost done!" I looked down at the mess that was my suitcase, I had packed things I probably wouldn't even need, I'd packed my swimsuit which I probably would not be needing since it's winter time. A pretty pathetic time to hold a two week camp by the ocean.

The last of the clothes and a pair of shoes later I'm zipping my dark blue suitcase and walking out my room and shutting the door behind me.

I walked out to where my friends were waiting to go, they both looked up and sighed in relief, "Finally, now we can go," My blonde haired friend said.

We packed our luggage into the trunk, climbed into the car and began to sing along to the playlist Riley had made for us.

I had been excited for this camp since the beginning of the year, it was spoken about throughout our school, basically everyone in our grade was going for winter break. Kids from all over went to the camp, it was famous for being a getaway for the two weeks and not having a set schedule. There were programs but it wasn't compulsory to attend.

I was dozing in and out of sleep sat in the back while my two best friends sung the whole way there and before I knew it we were arriving at the front gates. We all climbed out of the car and walked to reception.

"Names?" The lady with a prominent scowl on her face asked sourly.

"Riley Henth, Sally May and Emma Forrester," Riley replied for us all.

The lady with black hair nodded and ran her finger down a list of names until she found each of ours, she leaned to the side and grabbed three keys off the wall next to her. She then handed us a key each, "Apartment 29 girls, welcome to Camp Seaside."

We thanked her and drove through the camp to where we found a cabin with the number 29 printed on the front. While getting our suitcases from the trunk we discussed what we wanted to do for the next two weeks.

"I want to meet a hottie, I've heard there's some good looking guys here," Sally giggled as Riley and I rolled our eyes, classic Sal.

"Well I don't know about you guys but I'm going to crack open a book on the beach," Riley said.

"Isn't it a bit cold for the beach?" I asked her.

"That's exactly why I brought this," She said, reaching into the back of the car and pulling out a large blue blanket that looked extremely warm.

"Prepared as always," Sally said, "So what about you Em?"

"Oh I don't know, I'll probably just do some painting. I haven't really thought that far ahead."

"You and your painting is like an obsession, you always paint, come on live a little, you too Riles."

"Nope I'm fine with my books," Riley shook her head.

"You guys! We're here to have fun and explore and have a getaway from reality. For the next two weeks us three are going to party," Sally danced around excitedly.

I rolled my eyes, "Painting and reading is what we like though. You can go and party all you want."

"You guys are no fun, how about just this week? And then for the remaining week we have left you can both go back to your boring selves?" She suggested.

"Deal," Riley agreed, I gave her an incredulous look and she shrugged, "What? Could be fun."

"So what about you Em? You in?"

I pondered on it for a bit before finally giving in, we are at camp for a reason, "Fine. I'm in."

She clapped her hands together, "Yay!"

After getting all of our belongings inside we began unpacking, I didn't even know what I had packed I was in such a rush. When I unzipped my suitcase I was greeted with a mess of clothes unfolded and most likely wrinkled. I started to take my clothes out of the suitcase being careful to fold them neatly before putting them in the drawers. I had packed clothes that most likely didn't fit me anymore, clothes that I hadn't worn for ages along with some that I still wore.

Once everything was put away I sat on my bed and pulled my cell out of my pocket.

Two missed calls : Mum

I sighed and pressed on her contact, after two rings she picked up.

"Hey Em," She cheerfully greeted.

"Hey mum I'm calling you back from earlier."

"Oh I was just seeing how you were settling in."

"Yeah alright, I just got unpacked, it's really nice here, we've got a fireplace and vented heating. We each get our own rooms and our kitchen is already fully stocked. Our cabin is right near everything how good is that?"

"Let me guess it's right near the art studio?"

"Yeah I'm really excited to try out some new stuff!"

"That sounds amazing hun, just be careful, I went there when I was younger and some of the people there were telling some insane stories."

"I'll be fine, I've got to go just text me if you need anything."

"Okay will do bye."

"Bye," I said and hung up.

I was still in my clothes from home and it was much colder near the ocean then it was back home so I changed from my shirt into a large black jumper and from my jeans to grey tracksuit pants then pulled on my black ugg boots. I was feeling much warmer already.

I pulled my long brown hair into a high ponytail as I walked out of my room and into the lounge where Riley was reading in front of the fireplace which was already lit up.

She must have heard me come out because she looked up and smiled, "Sally went out, she's on the prowl."

I laughed and sat down next to her on the ground, watching the flames and listening to the crackling of the wood. I slowly shut my eyes feeling more and more relaxed.

"You know, I think I'll just stay here for the next two weeks," Riley said and I looked over to her, she had her head fallen back and eyes closed.

"Agreed."

"But we did make that deal with Sally."

"Mhm."

And as if on queue Sally barged through the front door letting all the cold air in, I instantly reached back and pulled one of the throw blankets onto my lap.

"Hello ladies, it's time to go out!" Sally announced and Riley and I both groaned.

"Oh come on it's not that bad," She said. I looked over at her and when I saw what she was wearing my eyes nearly popped out of my skull, she had on light blue denim shorts and a pink singlet.

"What are you wearing?"

She looked down at her attire and frowned up at me, "This?" She said, gesturing to her not so clothed body.

"Aren't you cold?" Riley chimed in.

"Well you know what Cardi B says, a-"

"-hoe never gets cold, yes we know," I said.

"Oh come on you both look like grandmas next to that fire, it's time to go out now," She began walking over to us, "Get your asses up, there's a bonfire on the beach and it starts in twenty minutes, so get up, get dressed to impress and let's party."

"Will there we booze?" Riley asked nervously, she had always hated public settings with people she didn't know and getting drunk was the only way she dealt with it, which was why I was surprised that she agreed to this deal first.

"Of course there will be," she said enthusiastically.

"Alright fine I'm up," Riley said. I rolled my eyes and got up, there was no winning with Sally.

We both walked into our rooms which were directly next to each other, "Do you guys need any help getting ready?" Sally yelled out.

"No!" We both said at the same time.

I rummaged through my drawers and somehow managed to pull out a semi-warm outfit. I was going to wear my black jeans, a purple halter top and my leather jacket.

After I pulled all of it on I decided to keep my ugg boots on, they didn't look too bad with the outfit anyway. I kept my hair as it was and put a full face of makeup on, making my eyeshadow smoky.

I grabbed my phone which was still on my bed from the phone call with mum and walked out into the lounge where Riley and Sally were sat waiting for me, Sally hadn't changed and Riley was wearing black leggings and an oversized long sleeved shirt, she had done the same as me and worn ugg boots.

Sally was obviously judging both of our outfits but didn't say anything, "Okay let's go then."

We walked down to the beach where the sun was setting, the sight was beautiful. When we got over the small hill that led down to the beach I spotted a tonne of people sitting around a large fire with cups in hand.

"Guys," Sally said, getting mine and Riley's attention, she was standing with a tall red haired guy, "This is Jasper, we met earlier."

He gave us a small smile each before his smile was interrupted by our friend smashing her face onto his.

"Let's get away from that," Riley mumbled in my ear, I nodded and walked with her closer to the water away from the whole party.

"Don't get me wrong I adore Sally but sometimes she's just too much to be around. It gets embarrassing to be around her sometimes, you know?"

I nodded, "Yeah I know, I think I'm just gonna ditch this party and go to the art room or something," I said as I watched the people by the fire having fun.

"I'll probably go back to our cabin, in a bit and-"

Riley kept speaking but I couldn't hear a thing she was saying, I became intrigued by the group that had just turned up to the party. Three guys and one girl, this one girl was a platinum blonde and hanging off the arm of one of the guys, they looked to be together. The two other guys were greeting people, one of them had black hair and the other had a dirty blonde.

The one with dirty blonde hair glanced in mine and Riley's direction, making eye contact with me, as soon as our eyes met I looked away, feeling flushed.

I stood up as Riley was still talking, "I'm gonna get going now."

"Oh okay yeah, me too," she said standing up as well.

"I'll be back later, lock the door I have a key."

"Alright have fun."

I nodded and turned on my heel and left, walking towards the art room. It was now completely pitch black and the only thing lighting my way were the lights of the cabins.
