I was laying in bed, cuddling with my crewmate, who was also my best friend and boyfriend, when suddenly the "code red" alert sounded.
I jumped out of bed, rushed to the console, opened the coms and asked what's happening.
I couldn't hear anything over the sound of the alarm. I turned it off, hoping that Rulfie is not awake.
"What's wrong?" I asked sleepily
The electronic voice of W.H.E.E.Z.E. answered : "Dear captain, we have a code red that we are placing into your paws XD. A group of very dangerous criminals stole one of our cruisers and are on a rampage. We believe they have about six guys in their crew. They will get to outpost Alpha in two hours. We require your help. Gather your crew and report in. ".
It took me a while to process what just happened. I went to bedroom and woke Rulf up
"Mmm, what's wrong Cody?" he asked sleepily
I lowered down to him and whispers to his ear : "Bad news, we have a job to do."
"What this time?" he whined "another diplomatic mission?".
"Don't worry, this time it's code red." I said with encouragement.
"What?!?!?" he jumped on his feet and started to dress up.
I went to put on my red shirt and called two of our friends. They answered.
*beep, coms open*
"Sorry guys for disturbing you, but we have code red here. I need your help here.". I pressed on. Valor, who was one of Cody's close friends, looked shocked, but interrupted me : "Cody, hang on. Are you saying that we are going on a bounty hunting mission for W.H.E.E.Z.E.?"
I was quiet, but Rigel, another friend of Cody, began : "Well, if it's something serious."
I began to explain what's happening : "You see, their cruiser got stolen, and they need it back.".
Everyone looked at me in shock, I was suprised.
All of them said at once : "What about their weaponry?".
I just stood there, not knowing what to say, because the cruisers were usually very good in the matters of space combat.
"Well, it all sound cool and stuff, but I don't know if I can. You see, Crysal, (Rigel's best friend and Cody's long lasting friend too) is currently on a planet and I need to keep a ear on my coms incase he needs an evac." said Rigel.
"Oh, well, it's up to you. If you want to come, meeting is in 30 minutes on my ship." I continued.
"I'll think about it." said Rigel and closed the channel.
"I'll be there in 20." said Valor as his coms channel closed.
I hang up and walked to the hangar, preparing the fighter just in case.
After a while Rulf came, dressed in his red suit. He approached me from behind and hugged me.
"Reactors working at maximum power, the ship is all set for departure." he said while I finished my work in the hangar.
After that we walked to the main lobby and sat there. We started talking about the play of how we will ambush the cruiser. It didn't take long for 20 minutes to pass, and we heard from Valor asking permission to land. He landed and we went to greet him.
"Well, you have me here." he said as he exited his shuttle, and rushed for a group hug with us.
After a while he went to armory to get ready and he put his blue uniform on. We still had about 10 minutes before we'd depart, so we waited and talked about our plans.
We were about to depart when suddenly something flew right into our hangar. It was Rigel.
"Well, I think I can help you." he said as he got out of his fighter.
We went for a briefing and set a course to intercept the captured ship.
"What if we try to board them?" I said, hoping to evade space combat.
"They have bigger crew than we." Rulf answered as I folded my wing.
After a few quiet minutes, we had to switch to silent running because we were closing in on the cruiser. We turned everything to minimum power, and just drifted towards them.
"Scan them." I ordered.
"8 life forms on board sir." said Valor, who was opperating the sensors.
After a while, I ordered : "Hail them on all frequencies."
No answer.
"Yellow alert, tell them that if they don't answer, we will board them." I continued.
The crew obeyed every single order I gave.
It was good to sit in the captain's chair once again. The ship was still in good condition and operating perfectly.
After a while there was still no naswer.
It felt very weird, like an ambush.
"Scan their systems." I ordered, feeling a bit worried.
"They are working at 100% sir." Said Rulf, who was operating the weapons.
"All stop, send a warning message. We will shoot if you don't respond." I ordered, trying to contact them at first.
The communication channel oppened, but it was like they were jamming us.
Suddenly their engines fired up, and they started to escape. The coms channel closed.
"Sir! Their engines are working at 120%!" Shouted Valor.
"Red alert!!!!!" I screamed, and the ship alarm sounded.
"Full power to engines, flank speed." I continueded.
The ship started to accelerate rapidly. We began closing in on the cruiser.
"Sir, fighters dead ahead!" Said Valor.
I was frozen in horror that they had two fighters ready to launch, but soonly snapped out of it.
"Rigel, you know what to do." I told him.
He ran to hangar and hopped into his fighter. I was meanwhile operating the helm.
"Fire at will!" I shouted as the fighters started to shoot at us.
The fight broke out, and it was scary to watch the projectiles fly past us and miss us by inches.
After a while of heavy fighting, one of their fighters got shot down and slammed into our hull.
"Valor, go check if the guy survived." I told him.
"If he did?" he asked with a little scared look.
"He didn't." I replied dominantly.
He looked at me, but went to make sure the guy didn't survived.
I froze a little, suprised by the command I just gave.
"Cody? Are you ok?" Rulf asked concerned.
"Y-yeah, I'm all fine." I replied without much emotion.
"Lets just concentrate on finishing these fuckers off." I told him, flattening my ears.
Rulfie looked at me and I could see what he was thinking : "Hmm, he's not feeling the best."
Suddenly, a giant explosion occured on the hull of enemy ship. I saw a fighter fly into
the crack in the hull. It was Rigel.
I tried to hail him, but no response.
After a while, we managed to shoot down the second fighter, but we were unable to do anything to the cruiser. It was too far away.
No matter what we did, the cruiser was just getting away.
Meanwhile Valor returned.
"Taken care of." He told us and sat behind his console.
I was about to start talking, when suddenly the engines of enemy ship cut off.
I watched in shock, and a few moments later Rigel emerged from the hull crack.
"Emergency power to attack systems!" I shouted as we began to close in on them.
"Their cruiser is in range of our weapons." Valor told us "Their ship is running on auxiliary power."
"Fire at wil." I ordered.
We started firing at them with all we had, and were slowly tearing them apart.
It did not take too long for one torpedo to go straight inside their ship and blow up their reactor. They blew up almost instantly.
"Rigel, return to ship please." I asked him.
As he returned, I set a course to earth.
"That was a pretty good move you pulled out Rigel. They would have escaped if it wasn't for you." I commended him.
As the ship was going to earth, I contacted W.H.E.E.Z.E. command and told them that the cruiser was destroyed.
"We're sorry to hear that captain, but we know you did your best. Please consider this as a thank you. W.H.E.E.Z.E. signing out.".
They transfered 40 million space bucks.
to my bank account and I divided it between the four of us.
"Oh wow, thank you Cody. I was happy to help." Valor told me before he left the ship and went home.
"Hey Cody, would you and Rulf like to come over to Crysal's ship and wait untill he's finished his mission to greet him? I'm sure he will be happy to see you." Rigel asked me.
"I'd be happy to. Rulf? What about you?" I asked him.
"Yeah, sure, I don't see why not." he replied with a smile.
We set of in Rigel's fighter.
"Thanks Rigel for joining." I said in total silence of the fighter.
"It was nothing Cody." he smiled at me.
"I can't wait to see Crysal. It's been a pretty long time." I said.
I stretched myself on the floor. "Ah, finally a good job"
Rigel set the ship to autopilot and layed next to me and Rulf, who I was cuddling.
It was funny seeing those two on either side of me. Rulf was playing with my wing, while Rigel was giggling like crazy.
I stretched myself in delight, because I was pretty tired after this job. It was nice to finally have some proper action on a mission, rather than just diplomacy.
It didn't take long for the ship to arrive at its destination.
Rigel went to dock the ship manually.
I meanwhile grabbed Rulf and pulled him on me, and hugged him tightly, while also licking his cute nuzzle.
"We're all docked guys." Rigel said as he landed the fighter in the small hanger bay.
Me and Rulf got up, but before I could properly stand up, he grabbed me by my shirt and started to kiss me. I flattened my ears in shock, but slowly? kissed him back.
"Hehe, you two are cute." Rigel interrupted us, giggling.
I blushed with Rulf, and we went out of the airlock to wait on the ship.
As the time went by, we were playing games and talking about all sorts of stuff.
I was getting really sleepy so Rulf dragged me to bed and layed next to me.
I giggled and said : "Mmm, goodnight Ruru".
"Goodnight Cody, sleep well." He replied, pulling the blanket over me.
I slowly fell asleep and was dreaming about space.
