Anxiety follows
like a shadow
wherever I go,
An unwanted guest
knock, knock, knocking on my door
He never waits for me
nor does he ever leave
Always everywhere,-
at home, outside, a friends party,
at midnight singing me to sleep
Somehow he became a part of me,
fingers drumming out my heart beat,
Simply watching
as this fear runs deep
A cold embrace
under the illuminated stage,
holding out the mike,
a vice like grip, a develish smile
He paints my reflection
she glares back, upset
Suddenly it becomes hard to breathe,
A reminder
that my freedom is under lock and key
And even though I've tried to break free
The frantic beating of my
heart
is a warning sign
that he still holds
the reigns of my life.
