Melody's POV
I woke up the next morning with K-9 next to me, despite my telling him to go to his room the night before.
"You could tell Mama was sad, huh buddy?" I asked, scratching behind his ears. He whimpered in response and licked my hand.
"Ok, bud. Let's go get your sister and let you go to the bathroom," I said, crawling out of bed. K-9 followed and we entered the small room where my dogs slept.
"Roxy! Come on, wanna go outside?" I asked. Roxy picked up her head and started panting. She got up and rushed to the back door.
"Ok, ok, go on," I laughed, opening the door for them to go relieve themselves. With the dogs outside, I filled their food bowls, hiding a treat on the bottom. They deserved it, going without Mama for a few days. I put down there bowls with a sigh, I was already missing Jack. I wonder if he's texted me yet? I glanced at my phone, it was only 9:30 here, so it was 1:30 in the afternoon in Brighton. He has probably texted me. And I'm up early, Jesus Christ. I headed back to my room, and sure enough, I had a text.
Shamrock- Not sure when you get this, as it's 10:30 in the morning here but it's 6:30 where you are, but I am already missing your sass.
Moxie- Well, it's 9:30 and 1:30 there, so...
Shamrock- Hey! You're up!
Moxie- Somehow up before 10:30, it's a fucking miracle.
Shamrock- How'd you sleep?
Moxie- Meh... Ok, I guess. I had a pupper in my bed so there's that. You?
Shamrock- I mean, I've slept better.
Moxie- Your own bed not living up to your standards?
Shamrock- It real big, and I'm real smol.
Moxie- Aww! Smol bean! You're adorable though. An adorable bean.
Shamrock- I thought you didn't like beans?
Moxie- I need to leave.
Shamrock- Nuuuu!
Moxie- And FYI I don't like coffee beans, but I love smol beans. Good day sir.
Shamrock- Do you really have to go?
Moxie- I need to let the dogs in and I need food. Just gimme a min. You gonna be ok by your lonesome?
Shamrock- I guess. But Mel? Can I ask you something? Something deep?
Moxie- Sure, go ahead.
Shamrock- Did you wake up feeling...sad? Lonely?
Moxie- Yeah, kinda. Why?
Shamrock- Just wondering if I was alone in that.
Moxie- No I feel you.
Shamrock- Well, you should go let your dogs in. Later!
Moxie- Later.
I put my phone away and frowned. Was Jack ok? I pushed it out of my mind as I went back downstairs and let the dogs in before making my own breakfast. I ate, and carried on with my day, the nagging feeling that something was wrong pulling at my heart. It didn't take me long to realize that being apart from Jack was what felt wrong. Now that I had met him, nothing was the same. Everything had changed. I had changed. And I would never be the same...
Jack's POV
I put my phone down and sighed. Damn, I missed her. She was like a drug to me, and I was having major withdrawals. She seemed to take all the light and color from me, only to give it back in pieces, whenever I spoke to her. But she said she had woken up sad too. Does she feel the same about me? Had she wished she had woken up next to me? Or am I just crazy? She had flirted a bit with me, but maybe she was just trying to be friendly. She had said she wasn't good with people... Damnit! I just wished I knew how she felt. I wished I knew she felt the same about me as I do her. I wish I could hold her forever, and never let her go. I wish I could feel her warmth against me. I wish the first night I met her had never ended...
Two weeks later
Melody's POV
Moxie- Yo, that's it. Start stockpiling, you need to see me.
Shamrock- Why, what's wrong?
Moxie- I miss you! That's what's wrong!
Jack's POV
I read the text again.
Moxie- I miss you! That's what's wrong!
Maybe she does feel the same...
Shamrock- Ok, let me see what I can do. And FYI, I miss you too.
I started looking for tickets from Brighton to Bangor Maine and found one that left May 9th at 9 at night. That should work.
Shamrock- How does May 10th through the 13th sound?
Moxie- Perfect! I'm so excited to see you! For once in my life, I need a hug. Oh, and don't bother with a hotel, you're crashing with me. I have a guest room because I'm a real adult.
Shamrock- Lol, ok. I'll see you then.
