Arnav Singh Raizada, 27 years old, an atheist, cynical man, non-believer of love and commitment of man-woman type, is owner of AR Group of companies. He lives in Shantivan (Raizada Mansion), Vasant Vihar, Delhi. He loves his sister very much, loves and respects his family too but believes lower class people are unscruplous in general. He is an arrogant man who believes he writes his own destiny, that he has risen up to this position only because of hard-work. He has done MBA from Harvard, Boston and started with AR Designs (a fashion brand) as his first company. His family includes his sister Anjali Jha(a fervent devotee, frequent temple visitor, cares most for her brother and husband), his Nani Devyani Raizada(orthodox but flexible lady, a true matriarch, doesn't fear Arnav like other family members), Mamaji : Manohar Raizada(a chilled out person, supports everyone but doesnt interfere till matters are of dire importance) -Mamiji : Manorama Raizada (fiercely protective of her three kids and family but disrespectful towards middle class in general. Always decked up, has mania for cosmetics) and their son Akash S R(a cool, calm, shy, well-behaved person and obedient in general. considers his cousins as real elder siblings). There are several Prakash brothers as housekeeping staff of RM and Aman Mathur, Arnav's manager - his Man Friday.
Arnav buys Sheesh Mahal (a palace in Lucknow) in opening scene and throws out the current owner Anurag Malik, his Chacha. Arnav was initially Arnav Malik and Sheesh Mahal is his paternal house where he lived till fourteen years of age. Thirteen years ago[1998], on day of his sister Anjali's wedding, his mother Ratna found about his father Arvind's affair. She immediately shoots herself and his father does the same, leaving both children orphaned. Anjali's(has polio in her left leg) marriage gets cancelled due to this scandal and they are thrown out on streets by their Chacha. His Dadi(Subhadra Malik - a typical patriarchal mindset lady who thinks men have got all rights) leaves home and shifts to an ashram. Arnav's Nani(Devyani Raizada) and Mama-Mami take sister-brother(18 and 14 respectively) with them to Delhi. Whole family work together and they go on to build AR conglomerate from scratch, with Arnav playing the major role with his excellent negotiation skills and business acumen. Family settle back into their normal life but Arnav immerses himself in taking AR to its present glory. After buying back his home SM back from his Chacha's debtors, he organizes a AR Designs fashion show there which is spoiled by Khushi Kumari Gupta, who assumed to be a model, is pushed to the ramp by AR staff. Scared to be on stage amongst thousands of unknown people, she ends up stepping upon her own dupatta, falling into an angry Arnav's arms.
Khushi is a lively and lighthearted traditional but clumsy young girl of 22 years of age, lives in Gomti-Sadan, Lucknow. She loves everyone and her sister the most. She was adopted by her uncle and aunt after her parents are killed in a car crash when she was eight.(Shashi Mausaji- she calls him Babuji. A cool father and heart patient, encourages his daughters in in their pursuits but lives in practical world too. Doesn't care much about society. Garima Mausi - she calls her Amma. Garima is a bit strict mother but loving too, worries for social image of her daughters. Payal, daughter of Shashi from his late first wife, is a shy woman but doting and mother hen kind of sister to Khushi). Due to sudden increased dowry demand on her sister Payal's wedding day, Khushi ends up causing a stir at a fashion show conducted at Sheesh Mahal [where Payal's groom lives on rent]. Arnav refuses to believe her story of coming here to meet sister's groom, dowry, sister's marriage and all. He accuses her of spoiling his show at behest of his rivals for money. He breaks her blouse dori in their arguments, a clear case of misbehavior just to intimidate her when she rebukes him for insulting her. Payal's marriage is cancelled as Khushi had dowry papers and she failed to reach home in time, thanks to Arnav.
In another meet at dargah, both are tying wish locks, Khushi picks up a fallen key of mannat lock and tried to give it to the person only to find its Arnav, he disregards both the wish-key and God. They fight again and to 'teach' her a lesson for her righteousness sermons, before leaving for Delhi, he circulates video of her falling into his arms at the fashion show to every channel with cheap headlines. Due to this scandal, Khushi is harassed, almost molested when a Shyam Manohar Jha saves her and gets smitten by her. Her parents send both Payal and Khushi to Delhi with their Bua (Madhumati, Shashi's sister, resident of Laxmi Nagar, Delhi. She widowed at a young age with no children of her own. Is asthma and migraine patient, loves her nieces very much and doesn't hesitate to scold Khushi, the naughtier one). To deal with financial crisis, Khushi looks forward to work and unknowingly gets job at AR with help of Shyam, who had managed to impress Buaji enough to stay at her home as a Paying Guest with his 'poor orphan, hard-working lawyer' story.
In reality, Shyam lives on other side of the metropolitan - at Shantivan(RM: Raizada Mansion) coz he is married to Anjali Jha, Arnav's sister. Both pairs of siblings - Anjali-Arnav & Payal-Khushi fiercely protective of each other have no idea about Shyam living a dual life. Anjali and Shyam had met at a temple, fell in love and got married three years ago. He is a criminal lawyer and thoroughly unscrupulous person. He has now developed lust for Khushi which he thinks is love.
Arnav Khushi meet at AR, on her first day of job and are stunned to see each other. As they realize, she is to work in his company, Arnav immediately terminates her employment. They argue and he lets her fall from first floor. In the end, they agree to the deal that he 'll make her quit before 15 days and pay 1 lakh rupees as fine. If she managed to work for more than 15 days then, she is welcome to work here and Arnav ll give her 1 lakh. Meanwhile, Khushi also strikes up a great rapport with Arnav's Nani and his sister in unrelated meetings, due to traditionalism and Lucknow connection as she comes to Shantivan, wrong address, for delivering chikan sarees, her Buaji embroiders.
Arnav keeps making her life hell at office, alongwith sparks rising between them. Their interactions are loaded with chemistry as they share a bit of a love-hate relationship, strong unexplainable emotional and physical pull as Arnav saves her from accidents, a few times. Khushi unwittingly reveals about his three month old relationship with her immediate boss Lavanya Kashyap, to his inquisitive, orthodox Nani. This infuriates him and he sends her to a construction site that is on verge of collapse, leading her to believe that he did it intentionally to avenge the disclosure and doesn't care even for life of people just because they are below him in monetary terms. Arnav tries to clear his stand of not knowing about the site's dilapidated condition but Khushi refuses to listen, scolds him thoroughly, fearlessly and quits to leave back to her hometown Lucknow. Arnav is guilty and tormented, unable to reconcile with the fact that she thinks so bad about him but angry with himself for giving so much importance to a low class girl, who dares to talk-back to him, ASR. They meet at temple during Teej where Khushi again refuses to listen to his explanation, infuriating Arnav. Arnav again saves her as she falls weak due to fast, makes her drink water and gain back consciousness. They argue again and go separate ways.
Khushi soon gets to know about their declining financial conditions at Lucknow and opens a sweetmart in backyard of GH(Gupta House), again unwittingly delivering sweets at Shantivan as per an accepted order. She is later employed by Anjali to teach traditional culture to a westernized Lavanya who has started living with Raizadas to learn their culture, as a decision by family to resolve deadlock between ultra modern Arnav and orthodox Nani, after Nani refuses to allow Arnav to have live-in relationship with Lavanya (a sweet, witty, intelligent, westernized girl with parents settledin London UK. She works at AR and is ASR's meek, obedient girlfriend, doesnt hesitate ruling over other employees. She reluctantly befriends Khushi at RM that later develops into a genuine friendship. With Khushi's cultural teachings, she realizes she loves ASR and wants to marry him not just a live-in as was decided between them, infuriating Arnav, believer of no-strings)
Arnav doesn't leave a chance to insult Khushi, Lavanya is initially hostile towards Khushi and Arnav's Mami is breathing down Khushi's throat all time but she survives and gradually befriends Lavanya. Khushi changes thought process of not just Lavanya but unknowingly Arnav is also getting influenced by her, becoming humble and mellowed down. Arnav Khushi gradually fall in love without realizing it. They almost kiss on Diwali in attraction after he ties her mother's payal back on her ankle but the incident shakes them both bad when they realize, what they were about to do. To send across his message of his high 'status' to 'lowly' Khushi, Arnav chooses a escape route of declaring marriage plans with Lavanya when some women in Diwali party call her names. He gets raging mad when a tearful Khushi composes herself and acts unaffected and happy with his marriage decision. He goes on to brutally insulting her while dropping her home, reminding her their class difference that she should not forget before dreaming high. Khushi agrees to gets engaged to Shyam under family pressure and again her engagement decision burns Arnav but instead of acknowledging his feelings, he goes on an insulting spree where Khushi gives him back equally as they torture each other with 'Why do I matter to you' questions, none ready to confess. Lavanya is slowly getting aware of things around her.
Akash, Arnav's cousin and Payal, Khushi's sister meanwhile fall in love and it is decided that they 'll get engaged alongwith Arnav and Lavanya. Khushi comes to know about Shyam's truth, breaks her engagement and is devastated, feeling very bad for Anjali, who loves her husband just too much. Seeing her tensed, Arnav is all worried and Lavanya finally realizes that Arnav, the non-believer of love, is in love with his nemesis- Khushi and vice-versa. She leaves on day of Akash-Payal engagement, hinting the so called enemies to respect their feelings before its too late. NK(NandKishore), Akash's cousin flies from Sydney to attend Akash's marriage and now its Arnav's turn to get jealous with growing friendship of goofy, jovial NK and Khushi.
Arnav Khushi grow close during Akash-Payal wedding ceremonies and are on verge of confessing when Arnav witnesses Khushi-Shyam embracing on his terrace on night of Payal-Akash marriage(Valentine's Day of 2012). He misunderstand this one-sided obsession and confronts Shyam, his Jijaji, knowing about increasing love between Arnav-Khushi, confesses to the 'affair'. Furious, betrayed Arnav goes on to reveal it to his sister, only to find her unconscious. It is discovered that she is pregnant and he drops his plan, deciding to punish his betrayer - Khushi. He blackmails her to marry him for only six months, keeping Payal's wedding as bait. She agrees and they leave while family are busy in after wedding rituals of Akash and Payal. They return home married, projecting as if they had eloped and married. Everyone is stunned and go berserk. Arnav arrogantly escapes after sometime, leaving Khushi alone to answer everyone. Garima slaps her and breaks off relations with her and Raizadas make it difficult for her. Everyone wants to know the reason behind this haste and Khushi herself doesn't know. Arnav mistreats her in every way he could, going to the lengths of making her sleep out, at his poolside in cold winter.
Khushi manages to mend her relations with everyone on Holi and with time Arnav-Khushi are back to their Tom and Jerry ways but situation again turns serious when they visit Gupta House. Under some confusion, Khushi thinks Arnav wants to kill her and she decides to commit suicide, rather being killed by him. He saves her and reveals the real reason behind marriage, again calling her - gold-digger, an deceitful woman with no character and all. In confrontation at a bridge on their way back home to Shantivan, he refuses to believe her story of Shyam staying as PG at GH. Even after her several tries to prove her innocence, for sake of love, he leaves her at airport, to fly off to London on his late mother's birthday. Shyam kidnaps him from airport, breaching his security. He had got Arnav's fake will( whereby ASR gave everything to Shyam) signed by Arnav by tricking a desperate Khushi that he 'll confess truth to Arnav, if she got this routine paperwork signed for him as Arnav now hates him and wont do it if he asked. Khushi reads and gets them signed not knowing he had replaced the routine papers with fake will.
Shyam's men get Arnav to talk to family to convince them that he is in Scotland but Arnav aware of the fact that he may never escape these unknown goons, get a chance to meet Khushi again, confesses to her on a call that he loves her. Khushi immediately understands that his life is in danger. She soon begins suspecting Shyam and saves Arnav with help of NK. They reveal everything to family with Payal supporting their claims. Arnav throws Shyam out, completely trusting his wife now. Anjali refuses to believe Shyam can do this and with lack of proofs, they are unable to convince her, thinking in shock, she is unable to reconcile with truth. Anjali believes its all just a misunderstanding, not caring to know who kidnapped her brother, if not Shyam.
Arnav and Khushi are back to being on good terms but when Anjali runs away to hospital and tries to self-abort after Khushi requests her to eat for sake of baby, Arnav again lashes out at Khushi - calling her as biggest mistake of his life, reason behind Shyam's straying and this gloom around them, his Di's disturbed mental health. Khushi decides to leave but Arnav tries to explain that he said all that in anger, never meant it. When she persists, he stops her from leaving by citing their contract marriage that is yet to end or Payal too 'll leave with her. Already Akash is miffed with Payal for hiding abuout Shyam. Khushi is shocked that he is still holding onto contract and after some-days on pretext of Buaji's ill health, leaves for GH. Arnav realizing that contract is about to end in few days, blackmails her that he 'll lock Guptas out of GH(he bought it from owner) if she doesn't come back home with him. Khushi finally gives in when he threatens to reveal about contract marriage to her parents. They come back to RM. Arnav tries to make upto her. Around that time, Arnav's Dadi comes for a visit. She had been fed lies by Shyam and considers Khushi as the wrong party, reason behind Anjali's broken marriage. She uncovers that Arnav-Khushi's wedding was not conducted according to traditions and makes a huge issue with traditional family supporting her that ArShi should take phere.
To silence all opposition and to honour Khushi's dream wedding, Arnav agrees to marry his wife with proper rituals though he knows they are legally married. The marriage celebrations follow where Arnav repents his mistreatment of Khushi and one night apologizes to her and she easily forgives. Shyam causes Anjali to have a miscarriage putting a dampener on the celebrations. In a bid to rehabilitate a very weak Anjali, Khushi goes against Arnav and brings Shyam back in the house. This causes rift between both and they resolve it soon, promising to not be completely trusting on Shyam. Dadi meets Garima, Khushi's Amma, a woman from her son Arvind's past and decides to teach Guptas a lesson, pretending to have forgiven her. Arnav-Khushi consummate their marriage during bachelor's party at farmhouse on 13th of August, 2012 with Arnav promising Khushi to reach the venue in time for wedding, next evening.

Preparations for second Arshi wedding on night of 14 August 2012 were in full swing (Arnav and Khushi were legally married with a contract of six months.[Hindu Marriage Act + Contracts Act ] using his ASR resources). Everything goes same as the show till the re-wedding evening. On the eve of marriage, it is revealed by Dadi that Khushi's aunt Garima had an affair with Arnav's father.
Story starts from the evening of 14th August 2012. End of contract marriage n beginning of a ritually complete marriage for Khushi
Arnav, who was currently at RM, was supposed to reach wedding hall with Dadi. At the last moment, he was informed by Dadi that the reason behind his mother's death was Garima, Khushi's Mausi. The other woman in his mother's marriage. She told him about confrontation between the two(Garima and Dadi) in the past. She showed him a photo where a blushing Garima, happily posed with his father holding hands without an ounce of doubt as a couple. He gritted his teeth. Photo nowhere looked morphed.
The evil woman left him alone after storming his brain, turning his senses upside down. She confidently went to the wedding hall and announced that no wedding would take place today. Most of the guests already had their dinner so they avoided the family drama happening after this announcement. Both families assured their well wishers who inquired after, that everything was alright and requested for privacy. Guests didn't bother much because they were invited by families to the re-wedding of the temple-married couple at six-months anniversary. So, taking it as a personal matter, they provided much needed space to the families.Yeah, people in Delhi have become sensible.
Now the hall was all empty except for the Raizadas and Guptas who were eager to know the reason for this ridiculous announcement but Dadi didn't open her mouth and waited for Arnav to arrive. She poured water in unlit agnikund(fire pit). (God knows why because Agnikund is lit when groom and bride start performing wedding rituals after exchanging varmalas(garlands) and dinner. Dadi must be a Psycho!)
Everyone was tensed at her confident posture but agitated at her silence. Arnav's absence further fueled the fire.He wasn't even taking their calls. Dadi was pretty sure that today her genes would do something disastrous like every single time in past. Just when Nani had questioned her 100th time and she had again showed her traffic signal palm for 1000th time, they saw Arnav rushing into the hall like a hurricane. Before anyone could breathe a sigh of relief after seeing him there finally or from his body language get a hint of calamity that was coming forth their way; Arnav directly jumped at Garima ,grabbing her throat and tightening his hands around it. His eyes were bloodshot and jaws clenched tight. Choking her hard, he gritted, "You f**king killed my mother!!".
Everyone was shocked at this. What was he saying? They moved to rescue Garima who had started to turn pale in breathlessness. But Arnav was in full beastly mode. Khushi, Payal, Buaji, Nani were at his side in a second, trying their best to free Garima, shouting at him to leave her, completely appalled at his behaviour. Akash and NK moved the ladies aside and struggled with him trying to rescue her. It took more than a minute for two of them to overpower him. Arnav shrugging off both, took out the photo from his pocket and threw it at Garima, who turned white as she looked at the photo. Arnav became mad in rage at her expression which seemed to confirm what Dadi had told him. So she really was the other woman in his mother's life.Only he knew the distress of his mother faced in those painful minutes before her death.
Dadi, now told everyone about the past in most crude way possible tilting blame completely on Garima. All were shocked and numb. Guptas looked at Dadi in disbelief. Garima could not look up and face accusations in everyone's eyes.
Shyam was grinning wildly as drama was unfolding with more masala than he had thought. Garima was embarrassed and felt so ashamed but thinking about Khushi, opened her mouth to explain her side of story but Arnav again moved to attack her as now it was impossible to bear her presence before him, let alone listen to her cock and bull story. Must be similar to what Khushi had stringed at the bridge that day. Fu**ing family of pathological liars. But before he could attack her again, Khushi held his hand and threw it to his side with full force. She was so angry at his guts, " Aapki himmat kaise hui humari Amma ka gala pakadne ki? Let her explain atle ... ". She could not complete her sentence as Arnav had now grabbed her throat to squeeze it with bare hands.("How dare you strangle my mother? Let her explain atleas...")
"You B****!! I don't want your explanations, you bloody sl**s!". Everyone flinched at Arnav's words. But they were so shocked at the happenings that no one moved or spoke a word.
"You are just like your Mausi, money hungry wh *** . Its in your blood. Hai na(Right)? She took my mother's life and you destroyed my Di's life sleazing with bast**ds like...like this w * tch's son(he pointed at Dadi) and this d ** kh ** d Shyam!!" (Mausi is mother's sister)
" You don't deserve to live. I should f**king kill you!!".

Khushi had never thought ki aisa bhi din ayega(she would face such a day). Arnav looked at tears that had started to fall on his hands from her face. Thinking that Khushi was still acting innocent, trying to trap him, he squeezed his fingers further on her throat and shouted "Your game is over b****!! So now instead of trying to trap me with these fake tears, go open a br * thel. Will get more money and sex there!"
Khushi just could not believe what was sprouting out of his mouth. No, its all a nightmare. She didn't even know that tears were falling from her eyes. She started to turn red in his grip, but she could not bring herself to shout for help. She had turned immobile, blank that Arnav could ever clutch her throat! Talk about killing her! She tried hard to breathe due to natural instincts of body that have been benumbed due to his batbaric actions. Her desperate attempt to inhale, once again blinked everyone out of their shocked state of inaction. This time Shyam was at forefront in trying to rescue her. Akash pulled Arnav holding his back while NK tried to break his grip by standing between him and Khushi. Ladies were hysterical as Arnav was not leaving her. Even Mami who was feeling disgusted with Guptas, was scared for Khushi. It looked like he will kill her today. Feeling Shyam's desperate fingers clawing deep into his hands, Arnav left Khushi and turned his ire to Shyam, raining punches on his face, drawing blood from his mouth. NK and Akash saved him somehow. Arnav had blood on his mind today.He was like a wild bull let loose.
Now they both restrained raging, bloodthirsty Arnav tightly, to avoid any further attacks. Arnav had completely lost his senses in anger. Ladies held Khushi massaging her back, neck and then helped her with water. Asking Nani to hold Khushi, Anjali came forward and slapped Arnav hard, imprinting her all five fingers, flat on his cheek, "Have you gone mad? How can you choke Aunty and Khushiji? Look at her,she could have died. Why did you hit Shyamji?" Everyone had started to come to their senses.
Arnav couldn't believe how everyone looked at him angrily; even after all that was revealed.
"Are you all dumb? Di can't you see their facade? How they played with our lives! My mother died because of this woman. And this f**ker Shyam! Ask him kyun aaya ye is Khushi ko bachane? Boyfriend hai ye iska! Di maine kai baar in dono ko saath mein dekha hai. Infact, jab maine in dono ko range haathon pakada tha, isne khud mujhe bola tha ki aap in dono ke beech mein rukavat ho."(Are you all dumb? Di can't you see their facade? How they played with our lives! My mother died because of this woman. And this f**ker Shyam! Ask him, Why did he rescue her?He is her boyfriend. Di,I have seen them together so many times. Infact when caught red-handed,he himself accepted that you are the third wheel in their relationship)
"Both have fooled me! This b**ch even took my signature on fake will and kidnapped me. They both tried to kill me Di." and he went completely berserk. " Leave me Akash! I will kill them all today."
His mother's death was his most tragic wound and after all revelations only ASR, the barbaric animal remained ... Arnav left him ... and for ASR, it was always him vs world. Sab aaj uske dushman hain(Everyone is his enemy). He forgot, his anger and irrational actions were his worst enemy and he would pay dearly for it, his whole life.
