"Wait so Jenna, what time do you want to meet up for New Years?" I asked her. We were sitting in my room just hanging out. I was picking at the strings of my carpet, while she had music playing and was dancing around like an idiot.
"I was thinking we leave at like 4ish..? She answered my question.
"Isn't that early?" I complained.
"Well if we want window seats so we can actually see anything outside." There were fireworks outside the windows of the building when the clock hit twelve, and unless you were by a window...you really don't get to see them.
"Fine." I agreed. "Four it is."
"Cool. Do you know what you're wearing?" She asked.
"Jenna, its not a school dance..its new years? Why do I have to put any thought into what I wear?" I asked,
"Why do I need to know what I'm wearing?" She said in a high pitched mocking voice. I gave her a sarcastic look.
"It doesn't matter!" I complained.
"Okay well I am wearing that cute top from-" I cut her off.
"Jenna thats great but I really don't care."
"Jeez, I'll tell someone else then." She bragged, like she had a million friends.
"Who is going to care what you are wearing?" I bent my eyebrows at her, she raised hers and walked out of the room. "Where are you going?"
She didn't answer until I heard her go downstairs and talk to my mom. "Mrs. Lasko, would you like to know what I'm wearing to New Years?" I laughed to myself when I heard her say that.
"She doesn't caare either Jenna!" I shouted down the stairs.
"I would love to know Jenna." My mom half shouted up the stairs, just to bug me.
I heard Jenna start explaining her outfit, which I didn't care about so I just let her talk while I hung out in my room.
After about fifteen minutes of her going on about every stitch on her outfit, I finally heard my mom say "That sounds awesome, can't wait to see it." She didn't actually sound amused.
"Good." I heard Jenna say, then her footsteps walking away.
"Oh wait, Jenna, can you give this to Blair?" My mom said.
"Sure." Jenna came back up the stairs, with an envelope in her hand.
"What is that?" I asked her.
"I don't know, your mom said to give it to you." She said, flipping it over to look at the sender. I watched as her eyes got suddenly bigger.
"What? Who's it from?" I asked, and she smiled at me handing me the letter blank side up. I stared at her for a second while I flipped it over myself looking down at the sender.
Department of University of California, Los Angeles
Sent to the residence of Miss Blair A. Lasko
I felt my eyes widen like Jenna's had, as I ripped open the envelope. I noticed my mom had walked in, and was smiling.
"What's it say?" Jenna asked as soon as I pulled it out.
"I haven't read it yet. Hold on." I said semi nervous, this was my first response from any college. Just the fact that it was the college I most wanted to get into...I had butterflies in my stomach. I shook my head in disbelief after reading the letter, feeling my heart beat slow down. "I got in." I said to myself silently. Then looked up to see Jenna getting closer to hear me as I started amiling and got up. "I got in!" I laughed out of relief.
"Good for you!" My mom said, simply leaning on the doorway and smiling. Jenna was clapping for me excitedly.
"Mom why aren't you freaking out?"
"I freaked out earlier, I held the letter up to the light and read it." She laughed then moved over to hug me. "Aw, honey I'm so proud of you." She said in the most motherly tone possible. "Now, just because this is the first letter you got doesn't mean you have to go there."
"Mom, this is like my dream college, I'm pretty positive I'm going here." I said, still baffled with excitement.
"Okay, I already called your dad so no need to do that, but I didn't tell anyone else. You should call your grandparents sometime this week though, okay?"
"Sure." I said and sat back down. My mom walked out, and went back down stairs.
"Blair this is so exciting!" She said and sat down on my bed across from me. "I wonder when I will get my letters.." She pondered.
"Soon I hope. But Jenna, I'm going to college in California. How crazy is that." I said.
"You better come visit us over here in Ohio." She said.
"Maybe I will." I laughed. "I'm kidding, I know I'll be home for every holiday. I'll see you then."
"Good." We both sat there in silence, I was just taking in the fact that my future is basically written on the piece of paper I held in my hands. "Who are you gonna tell first?" She asked me.
"I told you first." She looked at me sarcastically. "Fine, uh...I don't know. I could go tell Josh."
"Okay, but I was actually hoping you would tell someone else first." She looked at me like I was nuts for not understanding right away. "You're kidding right. Your college is going to be right next to him and you aren't even going to call him right away."
"Well, I'd rather tell him in person." I said. "I didn't forget him, I just think that's more of an iin person exciting news sort of thing."
"Okay..."
"What do I even say over the phone? Hey what's up, I'm moving in a few blocks away from your house? I don't think so."
"Fine, when are you even going to see him?"
"Well, he said he might try to come up for new years with us, but he said it would be really hard to fit it in his schedule."
"Oh, well what about after New Years?"
"The next option is going up to possibly record with them."
"And you are doing that?" She asked positively.
"I think, I mean if I record with them it probably won't make it on the album..but I'll see."
"Whatever. But Blair, you would have to wait forever then to tell him, just call him." She begged me.
"I want to wait. And don't you dare tell him anything!" I said and she opened her mouth to argue with me. "Nope. Don't wanna hear it, I know how you are. You want to tell him, but you can't. Please don't."
"Fine. I won't." She said grumpily. "When was the last time you even talked to him on the phone?"
"It's been a couple days..why?"
"I just want to know. Your love life is better than anything happening in my life. Like what did Jenna do today? Literally all I do is watch TV and eat. And then you're over here dating Mr. Hollywood Sexypants."
"Alright, well I'm sorry." I laughed. "I'll call him later." I said leaning back onto my hands.
"No call him now, I'll even leave."
"Why, we're in mid conversation?" I said questioning her. She got up and grabbed my phone from the table and handing it to me.
"Call him now."
"I don't get you." I said taking my phone.
"Yeah, not many people do." She said as I dialed my phone. I let it ring but he didn't answer.
"See he's busy, I'll call him later."
"Fine." Jenna said and sat back down. I started putting my phone in my pocket but it started ringing again.
"Hello?" I answered in my on-the-phone voice.
"Hey, you called?" Ross asked curious when he answered.
"Yeah, you busy?"
"A little, but I have some time. What's up?"
"I was just curious about if you are coming or not later this week. I know your busy, so don't feel stressed to come."
"For New Years? Yeah I'll be near there, but...Blair I can't guarantee I could show up. Even if I did it's only for that night, then I have to leave early the next morning." He explained.
I thought about it for a moment. "Just tell me when you figure it out."
"Sure." He said, then I heard a knock on the door wherever he was.
"Where are you?" I asked.
"I'm in my dressing room for Austin and Ally...I'm pretty sure they want me on set."
"You should go do that."
"Yeah, I'll talk to you later." He said then hung up. I guess I'll have to wait to see how things turn out.
