"My name's Yu Yang, starting today I'm officially part of this hostel." The current occupants of the aforementioned hostel turn towards the entrance and see another new student. He had black hair and green and blue eyes and was wearing a black and white cheongsam.
"Welcome to the hostel, also you might wanna watch out." Before he could ask why he had to roll out of the way of a leg that came flying at him. As he came out of the roll he had to catch it and used the momentum to push her back. Resisting the urge to use his spirit essence he came at her but she nimbly dodged out of the way, this back and forth routine repeated for a bit with fast movements and he took an opening and aimed a kick at her throat but it was apparently a trap as she used her ponytail and wrapped it around his neck and kicked him in the chest sending him flying.
"That was fun, I admit defeat." Picking his bag up from where he dropped it before the fight began he picked a spot on the right side of the room next to the fireplace. As he watched the girl in the pink outfit with bunny ears push her bed next to the blue haired boy, Yang couldn't help but feel that this year would be an interesting one.
The next couple years were certainly interesting. After the three of them had embarrassed the group of bullies who liked throwing their money around the trio had gotten closer. Now they were on their way to enroll in the nearby school as recommended by Tang San's teacher called Shrek Academy, a school of monsters, for monsters, by monsters. The school only accepts the best and no ordinary people.
With a slogan like that they didn't doubt that the school'd be unique but a place which looks like a run down, low budget campus which resembled a summer camp was not what they, or anyone else for that matter, were expecting in the slightest. The line halted as somebody up front was making a big deal about his son getting rejected.
"I demand a refund! My son was very exceptional in his old school."
"I've told you application fee at ten gold pieces are non refundable. Next!"
"That's highway robbery! That's way too expensive."
"Mu Bai!" The guy from yesterday appears from up in a tree and confronts the upset parent.
"If you want a refund, defeat me and you'll get a full refund." Without transforming he summoned his rings which thoroughly cowed the adult.
"I will repeat our school values. Shrek is a monster that is deemed weird even by spirit beasts standards. Shrke Academy is a monster academy! Remember! We only accept monsters, not ordinary people!" To further prove his point the old man stood up and summoned a staff and his six spirit rings signifying his rank as a Spirit Emperor.
"There are 4 tests in the entrance exam, those under 13 and above Level 21 don't have to apply."
"As if there will be anyone like that." The same angry parent from earlier snarkily says.
As if in response the three of us step up and placed our fee in the box. We each give the old man our hands so he can inspect the bone structure to verify our ages which he was satisfied with so then we summoned our spirit rings. Tang San and Xiao Wu both summoned two yellow rings but I had one yellow and two purple which shocked those watching except Dai Mubai since I fought with him the other day.
He let us through but then we turned back as he took a sharp intake of breath at who it was who stepped up next. I don't know why but there was something about her that seemed familiar.
"Does your family know your here?" He actually sounded frightened for a second, what was it about this girl that was such a big deal.
"It doesn't matter what they think. Do I count as a monster." After shaking his head for a second he lets her through.
"The second part of the exam is just spirit power but you guys don't need to worry about that as you're more than qualified." As we were walking we came across a guy with a really thick beard manning a food cart. Apparently he was selling some weird smelling tofu and no one was buying any.
"I'm gonna go buy some tofu."
"I wouldn't." Dai Mubai says stepping up behind Tang San. "No one'll willingly eat that disgusting thing trust me on this. Show them where they come from." After a bit of debate and yelling the bearded senior finally relented and after saying a few weird words produced a smelly piece of tofu.
"Disgusting." The three of us deadpan at the same time, not just because of the smell but the weird speech included with it.
"Food types have to chant different spirit chants for the food to have effect. It's not like I want to say that stuff." Deciding I had enough of the weird sideshow I back away when I bump into a girl with brown hair and a red and black outfit. Seems the four of us weren't the only ones to skip to this far.
Dai Mubai talked to the guy in charge of administering this part of the test and we were allowed to skip to the last trial.
"What's this special privileges during exams." Just like before there were lots of protest for this action.
"Nevermind we'll do the test, it's best to be fair with everyone else." I say to quell the protesting crowd. Tang San went first and put his hand on the ball while saying his Level and rank.
"Tang San Level 29 Spirit Grandmaster."
"See that, whoever's spirit power is above 25 can move ahead to the last part of the test."
"Xiao Wu Level 29 Spirit Grandmaster."
"Yu Yang Level 31 Spirt Elder." That shocked the crowd even more as they found it hard to believe a twelve year old was already an elder.
Next up was the pink haired girl who was with us. "Ning Rong Rong Level 26 Spirit Grandmaster." In a burst of speed the other girl snatched the ball and announced her rank and Level. "Level 27 Spirit Grandmaster. Zhu Zhuqing."
"This is unbelievable those kids really are monsters." Without another word we moved along to the last part of the exam, unaware of what exactly it is we'd be going up against but it was obvious it wouldn't be something simple like with the other tasks we've had to do today.
"So what is it we'll have to do exactly for the final part of the exam?" Rong Rong says voicing what we were all thinking as we arrived to what was apparently to be the testing area.
"The final part of the exam is a duel with all five of you. Originally I was supposed to be the one to administer this part of the exam but that honor is being given to someone else." Our attention is turned to a short muscular man sitting in a chair just a little bit ahead of us.
"Uh, who is this guy exactly?" Xiao Wu says slightly confused by the unimposing person since he was shorter than all of them.
"This is the Vice Principal and the second strongest person here. Vice Principal Zhou Wu Ji."
Getting up from his chair he addresses us. "Like Dai Mu Bai said each of you will be working together for this portion of the exam. IF you guys can defend against my attacks in the time of this hour glass, even if there's only one of you left I'll let you all pass."
"There's five of us against just him this should be easy."
"I don't think so. You know what they say about assumptions." I say from my spot next to Xiao Wu.
"Yu Yang is right you guys are in big trouble. The vice principal is a Level 76 Spirit Saint. I'll give you guys the low down. Teacher is a supreme attack beast spirit master. I heard that he beat all the other Level sixty and over spirit kings all b himself.Back then he was only a spirit king but now the difference is incomparable his fighting essence is Strength of the Golden Bear."
Rong Rong gasps in shock as she seems to recognize the essence. "Does that mean he's the infamous Acala?"
"I'm afraid so." We all stood in shocked silence for a moment until I decided to break the ice.
"Don't panic guys, knowing is half the battle, he may be a lot stronger than us but since we know what his spirit essence is then we can make a strategy."
"You're right, let's get to know each other first. My name is Tang San, Level 29 Control Spirit Master. My spirit essence is River Grass." Tang San released his spirit essence and his spirit rings while activating his real guard which looked a bit like one of his hidden weapons.
"XIao Wu, Level 29 Attack Beast Spirit Master. Essence Soft Boned Rabbit."
"Zhu Zhuqing. Level 27 Attack Beast Spirit Master. Fighting Essence Nether Cat."
"Ning Rong Rong, Level 26 Support Spirit Master. Essence Seven Treasured Glass Tower." Everyone's eyes widened in shock at that. The seven treasured tower spirit essence is the strongest in the support class on the continent. Now I remember why her name seemed familiar earlier, she's the daughter of the current head of the Glazed Tile clan who is the top support master in the continent.
"Yu Yang, Level 31 Attack Beast Spirit Master, my fighting essence is Bright Goddess Butterfly." From my back came four brightblue butterfly wings of varying colors. Although I don't hate my spirit essence it's a bit embarrassing to be a butterfly. My three rings appeared, two were purple and one was yellow.
Once introductions were over we prepared to face off against a true monster. If we win we'll be admitted into this academy, if we lose then we fail.
Although we just met today I already trust those beside me.
