i won

my parents told me to stay young as long as i can,
because one day, i'll miss it when it's gone,
but i grew up too fast and the race was quickly ran,
and i had already moved on,
but now i'm in high school,
and i only have three years left,
i've been called a fool,
and i've lost a bunch of friends,
yesterday i was learning what makeup was,
and now i'm about to step into the real world,
my dreams get shot down and then they float up,
and my future is kind of swirled,
and one day i'll walk across that stage,
i'll be dressed in a cap and gown,
and i'll smile and laugh in their face,
waving at those who tried to tear me down,
but i'm still fighting now,
and the homework may come in tons,
but i know when i wear that cap and gown,
in the end, i won.
