Butterflies

Later that night, Jane and I were getting ready and I still couldn't stop thinking about Nick's roommate. It had been a long time since I was interested in someone new. I had spent most of freshman year wanting someone I couldn't have. I wanted to be more than friends with Liam even though I knew he wasn't available. Because of that, I had closed myself off from the possibility of having feelings for anyone else. There were a few guys who had shown interest but I only wanted Liam. I spent all of my time with him even when Jess wasn't around. But he never saw me as anything but a friend.
Then when I heard he had broke up with his girlfriend over the summer, I thought there might be a chance. But then he went and joined the frat and distanced himself from Jess and I. When we did see him at parties, he was always with a different girl. He had changed so much. The Liam that I had feelings for freshman year was gone.
I decided to make peace with the fact that we would never be together. I tried hanging out with a few different guys but it never went far. After a week or two, I would lose interest. I guess I was looking for someone to make me feel the way Liam did. I wanted to have butterflies in my stomach every time I saw them. No one had done that for me. Until today. I couldn't get Henry out of my head. I felt such a strong physical attraction to him and it kind of scared me. I found myself trying to think of ways to see him again. Jess hated him so I couldn't go to her for help. He did sound like a jerk. What was I thinking? I had to stop. I needed a distraction.
I was looking forward to seeing Liam tonight. I hadn't seen or talked to him since before Spring Break. When he texted last week to ask me to come to the party tonight, all of the old feelings resurfaced. They never really went away but I got really good at ignoring them since he wasn't around much.
I put the finishing touches on my makeup. The eyeliner and brown shadow I chose made my blue eyes pop. My long blond hair was blow dried straight. I was wearing my favorite pair of skinny jeans and a loose silky black tank top.

"How do I look?" I asked Jane.

"Super cute! How about me?" Jane was the opposite of me appearance wise. She had olive skin, dark hair and dark eyes. She was also a few inches taller than me. She was wearing skinny jeans like me with a black and white striped tunic top.

"Perfect. I guess we should head down. Jess and Nick said to meet them downstairs at 9."

When I stepped outside, I noticed it had cooled off a little now that the sun had set. For a second I considered running back upstairs for a jacket but decided against it. It was a short walk to the frat and I didn't want to have to hold a jacket all night.
Jess and Nick walked up a few minutes later and the four of us headed in the direction of the frat house. We could hear the party before we could see it. When the huge frat house came into view, there was a long line of people snaking down the front walkway and spilling over on the sidewalk. Luckily for us, we knew someone who could get us in without waiting in line. I texted Liam to let him know we were outside. After a few minutes, he came out the front door and walked past the long line to our group. And just like that, the butterflies were back.
