Gu Xijiu made Di Fuyi work a lot tonight. After Di Fuyi had carried her down from the hill, she asked him to carry her up again. She claimed that she liked the feeling of listening to his heartbeat while being on his back. Fortunately, Di Fuyi was not an ordinary person. It was an easy task for him to carry her as she was as light as a piece of paper to him.
Their way of spending time together was pretty cool too. Perhaps Di Fuyi felt guilty to her, so he did not reject when Gu Xijiu had made such a strange request. While he carried her back and forth, he enjoyed listening to Gu Xijiu's singing.
When they were back at the ice house, Gu Xijiu let Di Fuyi know of her intention to bring her three beasts back with her. Di Fuyi considered the fact that the ice house did not need the guarding of the three creatures anymore, so he agreed to her proposal. He seemed to be interested in walking with her, so he asked her, "Let's go. Let me walk you back."
Gu Xijiu laughed. "It's okay. You must be tired. I will use my teleportation ability to go back. You might create a problem if you send me back to my house. The family will not welcome you peacefully. Besides, I sneaked out without other people being aware, so it would be better for me to go back secretly."
What she said made sense, so Di Fuyi agreed with her.
She was very clingy tonight. She gave Di Fuyi a big hug before she left with the three beasts. When she was gone, Di Fuyi felt that something was not quite right. After pondering for a short while, he contacted the secret guards at General Gu's house. The guard told him that Miss Gu had returned and was now having a bath in the room while she prepared to rest. Gu Xijiu had a habit of taking a bath before she went to sleep. Therefore, Di Fuyi was no longer worried.
He was quite tired too, so he decided to meditate to recover his power. Before he began his meditation, he ordered his subordinates not to interrupt him if there was nothing urgent.

Meditation was the fastest way to recover. Since he had no distractions, he meditated the whole night and only opened his eyes in the morning. He felt so much better, so he tried contacting the secret guard to check on Gu Xijiu. However, he failed to reach the guard this time around.
Di Fuyi had a bad feeling. Usually, the guard was quite steady when he was on duty. Something must have happened which prevented him from being contacted.
He did not ask Mu Feng to check on the guard but personally went over to the general's house instead. He discovered that Gu Xijiu was missing!
Meanwhile, the guard had been tied up like a dumpling on a couch in her room. When the guard saw Di Fuyi, he looked embarrassed and tried whining. His sound was even softer than a mosquito.
Di Fuyi waved his sleeve, and the spiritual rope that was bounding the secret guard was released. Di Fuyi then made some gestures to release his acupuncture points and asked, "What happened?"
The guard leaped up, and his face was red as an apple. "Sorry that I was incompetent. Miss Gu had discovered my existence and successfully attacked me..."
Di Fuyi clenched his fists. "Where did she go? When did she leave?"
"It was... It was around midnight last night. I saw her ordering a maid to prepare her bathtub so that she could to take a bath and so I left the courtyard for a while. However, I was secretly attacked by her when I was wandering around the courtyard... Oh! She left a letter on my sleeve and asked me to pass it to you."
The guard quickly handed the letter to Di Fuyi. Di Fuyi opened it, and his face turned pale!

The big mussel, Wind Caller and Lu Wu were like free birds since they entered the dark forest as they could run anywhere they liked. Gu Xijiu sat on Wind Caller to cross the steep road. She was waiting for the three beasts to finish playing before heading to the seventh peak.
The herb she needed was on the seventh peak. The dark forest had a self-contained system. There was no sunlight all year long, and it was disconnected from the outside world.
According to what other people said, this was a dying place that had been abandoned by God. Anyone who entered the dark forest could only rely on themselves to escape from the forest.
Gu Xijiu looked up at the sky and only saw darkness. She rubbed her eyebrows and felt a little perplexed. The last time she was here, her spiritual power was still low. However, when she looked down at the forest from Di Fuyi's ride in the sky, she could see different colors at different peaks, while the most mysterious eighth peak was lit in seven different colors.
Occasionally, she could still see the sky when she was in the forest. It was the first time since she entered the woods that all she saw was a grey sky. There was not a single sight of colorful light.
She estimated the time and guessed that it was already afternoon the next day after she had left, so Di Fuyi should have already read her letter.
When she was writing the letter, she had wanted to wish him to be happy with his lover, but when she started writing, Gu Xijiu felt that she was unable to get herself to do so. After she had finished writing the letter, she felt that everything she had just written sounded ironic to her. She did not feel comfortable as she did not want to wish him to be happy with her.
Therefore, she wasted quite a few sheets of paper writing the letter and destroyed all the used paper with fire. She could not get herself to give him her blessing. The most she could do was to give up the body willingly.
She did not want to see him anymore. To be more precise, she did not want to know about any news related to him and the former King of Mermaids.
She understood that he was kind to her so she could give up the body willingly. She also hoped that he would have a happy life. Though she liked him a lot, she did not want to be in a dilemma in the future. She did not want to be a complaining wife who always had to compete with another woman. She would hate herself if she turned out that way.
Gu Xijiu believed that time was the best medicine. Regardless of how deep their relationship had grown and how hurt she felt right now, it was only a matter of time before things improved.
Perhaps, after several years when she receives news about him and his new partner, she could peacefully and sincerely give him her blessing. She had planned it all out and felt that what she had done was sensible. She had even started planning for a different future.
Nonetheless, she still felt a pain in her heart. It was too painful to the extent that she desperately wanted to get drunk. When Long Xi had betrayed her, she was furious. However, she now felt like her world was collapsing and her heart was being stabbed by a knife even though Di Fuyi had not betrayed her. Her life was full of despair!
When she first discovered the truth last night, her mind started feeling numb, and her senses became more obtuse. However, she still acted in a reasonable and orderly manner.
As an assassin, she was trained to quickly regain her composure whenever she encountered a major psychological blow. Gu Xijiu had been alone somewhere inside the jungle when the four-horned goat attacked her as the three spiritual beasts had gone out hunting. Perhaps it had thought that Gu Xijiu was an easy target, so it decided to creep up on her.
As a result, it turned out that the four-horned goat had become the prey instead. It was now just a piece of meat to Gu Xijiu. She was feeling hungry at that moment when the four-horned goat attacked her and wanted to find something to fill her stomach. Therefore, she immediately started setting up her tools to grill the creature after she had killed it.
The big mussel returned from its hunt while she was grilling the goat. It threw out several types of fresh meat from inside its shell and excitedly said, "We are going to have a good feast tonight! I have been a vegetarian for far too long!"
It was shocked when it saw the grilled lamb! "Tao Can! Master, you killed a Tao Can!" The Tao Cans are of the same species as the Tao Ties [1]. Though their appearance and characteristics were very similar to the Tao Ties, they were slightly weaker in terms of their ability.
Nonetheless,the Tao Cans can be rather ferocious too. Even a practitioner who possessed a spiritual power of level eight would run away when they come across a Tao Can. The big mussel never expected that Gu Xijiu could kill the Tao Can on her own!
The big mussel looked at the Tao Can and found that its body had been chopped up like a fish and was full of scars. It shuddered and carefully looked at its master.
Did its master abuse the corpse of the Tao Can? In fact, Tao Cans were easilykilled by slicing its neck using a knife. Gu Xijiu did not care about the big mussel and continued grilling the meat.
Suddenly, the big mussel noticed that something was wrong with her eyes. "Master, your eyes are so red! Did you cry?"
Gu Xijiu raised her hand and rubbed her eyes. "Nonsense! The smoke choked me. I am not crying!" There was water on her finger after she had rubbed her eyes.
The big mussel was speechless.
The baby inside the big mussel stared at the water on her finger. It was not convinced. "Don't lie, you are tearing!"
The mussel was being very inconsiderate. Gu Xijiu sneered! "Stupid mussel! It is natural for me to tear up due to all this smoke."
Gu Xijiu took out a smoked piece of wood and placed it in front of big mussel to prove her point. She moved swiftly and caught her pet by surprise. The smoke choked it, and the mussel started tearing as it was unable to counter Gu Xijiu's action. The big mussel quickly stepped back and almost fell into the fire. It promptly used its shell to fan the smoke away. "It's too smoky!"
"Do you believe me now?" Gu Xijiu asked without looking at it.
Naturally, the big mussel believed her and did not dare to challenge her further. However, it still wondered. "You have grilled many times before, but this is the first time you got choked by the smoke."
Gu Xijiu did not answer it. She tried convincing herself that she had cried because of the smoke. She told herself that the reason she felt pain now was that she was hurt. However, she would recover and would not feel hurt anymore after some time. She still firmly believed that time would heal her.
Wind Caller and Lu Wu had returned too. Both of them had hunted a lot of wild animals, and they had brought sufficient food to fill all of their stomachs.
The big mussel was worried about its master. Even though its master seemed to be acting quite orderly, it seemed that deep down she was a mess. For example, earlier when she was peeling off a tiger's skin, she stuck it onto the stick to grill instead of the meat which ended up in flames and her hands nearly caught fire.
Fortunately, the big mussel quickly responded and promptly emitted water to extinguish the fire. However, Gu Xijiu's hand was slightly burnt.
"Master, are you alright?" The big mussel took up her hand and blew the wound gently. Lu Wu also came over and looked at the wound with its pair of round eyes. It tried licking the wound with its tongue.
After a while, it looked at her and realized that she did not feel uncomfortable, so it continued licking her hand. Gu Xijiu felt better after the two beasts had helped her to aid her wound.
She took a short breath and felt slightly warm. She suppressed the sadness in her heart and jokingly said, "I heard that grilled tiger skin is nice to eat but never thought that it was fake news."
The Firmament Stone flashed for a few seconds as though it was trying to tease her for telling a lie. Gu Xijiu deliberately distorted its meaning. "Look, even the Firmament Stone agrees with me." The Firmament Stone angrily flashed several more times as a sign of expressing its dissatisfaction with being misunderstood.
Gu Xijiu pretended that she did not see it as the Firmament Stone was unable to scold her by making noise in her head since she could not communicate with it.
Frankly speaking, she missed the noisy Firmament Stone. Though it was very talkative, it was also her strategist and was somewhat knowledgeable. It was also her first friend when she arrived in this world.
Unfortunately, she would not be able to communicate with the Firmament Stone anymore. She felt that her tears were going to start rolling down very soon due to her sad thoughts. She took out a jar of liquor and tore away the seal. "It is not fun enough without liquor. Let's drink together!"
Lu Wu cried joyfully and immediately ran in front of her. The big mussel also opened its shell and waited for the drink.

The big mussel admired its owner today. Gu Xijiu not only drank a lot but also ate a lot. She finished an entire portion of lamb shank, a pair of chicken wings as well as a steak and was now biting on a piece of lamb chop while drinking a jar of liquor. The big mussel wondered where all the food was going since her body was so tiny.
After the big mussel had drunk several bowls of liquor, it started feeling tipsy. It asked its master, "Master, aren't you full yet?"
Gu Xijiu was stunned for a moment. She suddenly realized that she was so full and felt uncomfortable. Her chest was somewhat painful, and she was a bit dizzy too. She was so full to the extent that she wanted to cry!
Her eyes were getting more red as the night continued. She tried blinking her eyes to stop herself from crying, but her tears were already starting to flow down. Suddenly, she vomited. She vomited out all of the food while crying simultaneously. When she finally stopped vomiting, she felt so weak that she had to sit on the floor. All of a sudden, she felt sleepy.
Though the mussel was big, it was not a good drinker. It was starting to feel drunk after only having one jar of liquor. However, it still cared about its master. When it saw that Gu Xijiu was about to sleep on the ground, it quickly opened its shell and went over to her. "Master, you can lean on my shell."
Gu Xijiu leaned on its shell, but she could barely sit properly. Her body was unstable, and she fell inside the big mussel's shell! Though the shell of the big mussel was not very spacious, it was almost the size of a small room and was able to accommodate one person comfortably. The inside of the shell was quite soft, and so Gu Xijiu felt like she was lying on a mattress while she was inside. Hence, she decided to sleep there.
Unfortunately, the big mussels felt uncomfortable. Even though it had stored some other animals inside its shell before, they were dead animals. It could save them wherever it wanted. However, Gu Xijiu was a living human. When she stretched her body and moved inside its shell, it triggered the desire of the big mussel to eat. The baby inside the big mussel tried pushing Gu Xijiu out from the shell, but it failed.
"Don't... Why... I don't want to be a substitute... I am suffering..." She muttered with a choked voice. "I am hurt..." She frowned and her eyes were closed tightly. There were tears at the corner of her eyes.
The big mussels felt sad. It leaned over and wanted to hold Gu Xijiu's hand to comfort her. However, it was drunk at the moment. When it stretched out its hands, it also involuntarily opened its mouth. It had swallowed a lot of people before. It would be a disaster if it consumed Gu Xijiu!
Wind Caller was still the most reliable one during times of crisis. It quickly rushed over to block the mouth of big mussel with its horn and tried making a noise to warn the big mussel.
Lu Wu also rushed over to Wind Caller. At first, it had intended to sleep inside Gu Xijiu's arm. However, when it saw the huge mouth of the big mussel, it sensed that something was wrong and so it quickly waved its tail and slapped the big mussel's mouth.
The big mussel finally woke up. It looked down and was shocked! It quickly closed its mouth. Though Lu Wu was small in size, it possessed incredible strength. It was worried that the big mussel would swallow its master and so it rolled Gu Xijiu out with its tail and placed her on a big rock. Gu Xijiu was unaware that she had just escaped from great danger. She was still sleeping soundly on the rock.
It was quite cold in the dark forest, so when she lied on the big rock, she curled up her body to keep herself warm. The Wind Caller was worried that she would catch a cold, so it walked over and leaned beside her. It used its hoof to pull her into its arm so that it could keep her warm. Lu Wu also slid into Gu Xijiu's arm and used its nine furry tails to cover Gu Xijiu's body.
When it was midnight, it suddenly rained. The big mussel then opened its shell and asked the Wind Caller and the rest of them to go inside its shell. It then closed its shell and left only a slit which was one foot wide to provide some air inside the shell. Three of the beasts were quite tired after a long night. Meanwhile, the big mussel was getting sober.
After all, three of them had been spending time with each other for more than two years now so they could understand each other very well. They then assigned tasks to each other whereby the big mussel was responsible for keeping watch from outside. Meanwhile, the Wind Caller and Lu Wu would stay beside Gu Xijiu.
There was a mixture of heavy rain, strong wind, and lightning! In the past, the big mussel customarily resided underground but after it had followed Gu Xijiu, it started staying inside a human house. When it went out hunting, it always looked for a cave when it was tired. The big mussel liked hiding inside caves especially when it was raining and refused to come out.
Now, it was forced to expose itself outside under the storm. It quivered when thunder struck above its head. In the end, it decided to use the ground drilling technique and drilled a hole underground.
After it followed Gu Xijiu, Di Fuyi had taught it a unique ground drilling technique that enabled it to move underground quickly. This technique was quite useful to the big mussel. However, the big mussel had a fatal flaw whereby its sense of direction was poor!
In the past, it did not usually move around much while it was underground. Instead, it waited for its target quietly at the same spot. When it went out hunting together with the Wind Caller and Lu Wu, it always followed Lu Wu as Lu Wu had a very good sense of direction.
However, both the Wind Caller and Lu Wu were already asleep. After the big mussel had gone underground, it felt that there were too many rocks around and felt uncomfortable with the situation. Therefore, it tried searching for land with softer soil.
After it had moved around for a while underground, it felt that the soil was starting to get softer and so it stopped. The big mussel was stunned when it opened its shell and saw the three of them.
There was not enough air inside the shell and the three living things needed to breathe while they were inside the shell. The oxygen level kept decreasing while the carbon dioxide level inside the shell increased.
Gu Xijiu was still drunk and had not woken up yet, but her face was very red, and her chest was moving up and down. She had some difficulty breathing right now. The Wind Caller was big, and so it needed even more oxygen. At this moment, it had already fainted.
Meanwhile, Lu Wu jumped up, but it was like a drunken man walking around inside the shell. It barked at the big mussel asking it to return to the surface quickly.
They were currently still underground and were surrounded by soil everywhere.
The mussel was confused and panicked. Hence, it merely drilled in a specific direction, but it still could not find the way out! It was crying when it opened its shell. There was a vast and complicated network of roots underground, and the object stopping its way looked like a massive wall of old roots.
What should it do now? Where exactly should it go!? It took a glimpse of Lu Wu and realized that its nine tails were gradually turning red. Lu Wu screamed while the mussel was looking at the roots but it could not understand its language.
Lu Wu panicked and immediately crashed into one of the roots. Its claws scratched the roots and fresh air slowly diffused out from the roots.
The mussel was delighted and quickly rushed forward. It used its shell to scratch the roots so that fresh air could diffuse into its shell. Later on, it promptly drilled upwards with Lu Wu's guidance.

Gu Xijiu realized that she was surrounded by a group of people when she woke up!
Tens of people who were of different sizes and ages looked at her with curiosity and surprise as though they were admiring a western oil painting.
She was lying inside the shell of the mussel while the Wind Caller and Lu Wu were cautiously guarding the outside of the shell. They were staring at the people with two pairs of wild eyes so that no one dared to draw any closer to their master.
The surrounding area looked like a small village, and the houses were built from a type of shiny leaf. The leaves were scattered all around as though the place belonged to an ancient tribe.
However, the people around did not seem to be primitives who covered their bodies with big leaves or animal skin. Instead, they clothed themselves with a special silver robe. The fabric seemed to be made from a certain kind of rough but shiny fiber.
Gu Xijiu was confused as she last recalled having a feast at the sixth peak of the dark forest and fell asleep after throwing up. How on earth did she wake up on land which belonged to an ancient tribe? Where was this place?
"She's awake!"
"Is she a mussel spirit?"
"She's such a beauty..."
Everyone began judging her. Gu Xijiu tried sitting up while holding her head. Excellent, she could understand their language, which meant that it would be easy to communicate with them.
"Hi guys, where's this place?" She asked in a hoarse voice. Perhaps, she had drunk too much last night.
"Why don't you tell us your identity before asking any questions!? How did you show up from underneath the ground?"
"Yes, who the h*ll you are? Don't you dare try to mess with us!"
"She's such a beauty. Don't you guys find her alluring?"
"..."
Those people did not seem to be very friendly as many of them were holding weapons in their hands as though they were about to attack her anytime soon.
Gu Xijiu frowned and shifted her gaze to the mussel. The mussel panicked and quickly explained everything that had happened after she had fallen asleep last night. Of course, it left out the fact that it had almost eaten her due to starvation.
Gu Xijiu was annoyed as she could not believe that the mussel would make such a mess after she had gotten drunk. Fortunately, she was able to clear her mind right after she had woken up. She got up and jumped out from the shell. "I'm a human and not a goblin. My majestic beings had accidentally wandered into your territory while we were trying to avoid the rain. Where is this place anyway?"
She looked up at the sky but could not see anything as many big trees were blocking her view. It was the first time that Gu Xijiu had seen such a big tree.
There was a huge tree at the center of the tribe, that a hundred people could not encircle it even if they held each other hands. The huge tree was probably more than 300 meters tall, and they could hardly see the tip of the tree as it covered almost the entire village.
The leaves on the tree were in light silver, and its shape looked like a fan. Occasionally, its surface had seven different colors when a light shone onto it. The village looked like a hidden wonderland!
Gu Xijiu quickly scanned the area and realized that everyone there was an elite! They were all experts who possessed a spiritual power of level seven or above! More than ten of them had a spiritual power of level eight, and almost all of them looked unique.
It was rare to find experts who possessed a spiritual power of level six in the continent, but, there were so many of them in this odd village! Where was this place?
Everyone looked at each other, and one of them puffed. "How great it would be if we knew where we were! We've been trapped here for a very long time..."
Gu Xijiu remained silent for a while before asking, "How did you guys get here?"
They claimed that they were once heaven's gift disciples. However, they had been thrown here as they had failed the test. "Miss, were you a challenger as well?" Someone spoke as he slowly approached them.
The voice was clear and magnetic, and Gu Xijiu knew that it belonged to a young man. Everyone immediately made way as a small cart was slowly pushed towards Gu Xijiu. A young man was sitting on the cart. Gu Xijiu narrowed her eyes as she tried to get a better look at him.
The man was wearing a silver robe, and his hair was as black as ink with a pair of sideburns that looked like a blade. He was handsome and had a red heart-shaped birthmark between his eyebrows. His appearance and aura were very similar to a therapist who was known as Ouyang Mingri in a Chinese drama called 'Xue Hua Nu Shen Long'.
Even though it was not an important fact, Gu Xijiu felt that he looked somewhat familiar. She soon realized that they both looked alike. Since the man was pushed through the crowd. Perhaps, he was unable to walk.
"Gu Tiannuo." Gu Xijiu tried calling.
The man did respond to her calling, but he fixed his gaze on Gu Xijiu and responded, "Is that your name?"
Gu Xijiu remained silent.
The man's expression looked genuine. Gu Xijiu took a deep breath and replied, "No, that is not my name. It is one of my family member's names. Your appearance is identical to my relative's. My name is Gu Xijiu..."
The man smiled. "I see, but Miss Gu, you haven't answered my question yet."
"I ran into the Dark Forest by myself as I was planning to obtain some herbs found at the seventh peak. However, we encountered an accident, and my majestic creature accidentally brought me here." Gu Xijiu briefly introduced herself and asked again, "Did you just mention that you were all initially heaven's gift disciples?"
The young man sighed. "They claimed that they were heaven's gift disciples, but had failed the test that had been given by Celestial Master Zuo and were therefore trapped in the Dark Forest..."
Gu Xijiu finally had a clearer picture after listening to the young man. Since everyone claimed that they were heaven's gift disciples, they were probably outstanding in martial arts. They had tried their best to fend off their captors while being sent to the Dark Forest. However, they had fainted due to their injuries, and the next thing they realize when they woke was that they had been left in this village.
The village seemed to be isolated by a special wizardry barrier whereby people were allowed to enter, but none could escape from the place. All of them had been trapped inside the barrier for several years now and had eventually formed a village.
They had been left underneath the giant tree, and Gu Xijiu was the only one who had arrived inside a mussel's shell which showed up from underground. It was probably the reason why so many people were gossiping about them.

"My Lord, I have a report from the secret agent. Miss Gu had entered the Dark Forest."
This time, almost all of the secret agents in the Feixing Kingdom had joined the operation. They had finally brought good news after two days of thorough investigations.
Mu Feng was distraught about his master as he had not been sleeping for two whole days! When he got the news, his Lord had just finished the ritual ceremony, and he looked slightly pale.
There was chaos since Miss Gu fled away. They have been sending people out to find her secretly. Even people from the Gu family did not know about it.
However, Gu Xietian has finally come to question as he could not find his daughter. Fortunately, the servants in Fucang Hall did not let him in but only told him that his daughter was doing well, and the wedding would be held nine days later according to Di Fuyi's earlier instruction. That really pissed Gu Xietian off!
He finally had the opportunity to spend some quality times with his daughter when she came home. However, Celestial Master Zuo shamefully ruined his dream again! He wanted to argue but did not manage to see Di Fuyi.
