I quickly spotted Lea sitting with Isabelle and Katie, but before I could see their faces, I found my legs moving me in the direction of Lea’s table that was currently seating five people.
As I sat down, I tried remembering what Lea was telling me about who was who at the table, but my brain was literally not working at all.
“Lea!” a voice snapped me out of my thoughts. I looked around the table and saw that the voice belonged to the woman that I assumed was Lea’s mother.
She had the same hair as Lea but while Lea’s eyes were a warm brown, her mother’s eyes were a cold and calculating blue...as if she was analyzing every single thing that you did.
“Yes, mother?” I replied, figuring that that would be a proper way to respond.
“You spaced out.” she snapped.
“I’m sorry, I didn’t realize.” I apologized.
“Obviously not.” was her reply and I felt myself flush while everyone at the table laughed.
“Don’t worry. I happen to space a lot too.” said the guy sitting on my right with a smile.
I looked over and realized with a jolt that it was Lea’s older brother, Jesse. Lea had said that he was like her; pressured to do excellent in school and had never really had a social life.
Although, I added in my head, It would be hard not to have a social life with his looks.
Jesse had dark brown hair (with strong quiff game, might I add) that ended around his ears and his skin was pale with faint tan. His eyes made me jealous as they were a mix of blue, green and hazel with eyelashes to die for.
According to Lea, Jesse looked a lot like his father, so after shooting him a grateful smile, I looked around the table and saw a man that did look quite similar to Jesse, except that his face had sharp lines etched in that I assumed came from the way his face was held in a permanent scowl.
When a waiter came to our table, I found out that we were ordering dessert. I decided to order the same thing that I had ordered with Katie and Isabelle.
When I told the waiter what I wanted, I felt everyone’s eyes focus on me. “Lea, are you being serious?” Lea’s mother asked with a tight smile.
“Um...yes. Is there something wrong?” I answered, confused.
“Are you not aware that the Chocolatey Peanut Butter Cake contains peanuts?” demanded a strict-looking woman I’m guessing was Lea’s aunt.
“Uh...yes, I’m aware.” I responded, still not sure of what was happening.
“Oh, excuse me. I wasn’t aware that my daughter’s peanut allergies had magically disappeared!” said Lea’s mother, sarcastically.
When I heard this, I mentally face-palmed myself. I had totally forgotten to ask about things like allergies! Lucky for Lea, I wasn’t allergic to anything, but for now, I was stuck in this mess.
“Oh, hahaha! No, I was just kidding! Silly me!” I said, laughing nervously. “Actually, I’ll have some of the funnel cake.” I directed to the waiter, who had witnessed the whole scene.
Once he had left, I turned back to face the people at the table. Lea’s mother was giving me a look that told me to stop embarrassing her while everyone else seemed to have let it slide.
What worried me was the look that Jesse was giving me; I could tell that he was already suspicious.
For the rest of the dinner, I remained relatively silent. As we continued to eat, I glanced over to where Lea, Isabelle and Katie sat and saw that they were getting ready to leave.
Isabelle looked fine, but I could see a hint of suspicion in Katie’s eyes. I caught Lea’s eye and she gave me a wink.
I guess things were going well for her.
