I exit my apartment, not forgetting to put on my best smile.

As I'm walking to school, a couple of little kids playing catch my eye. They are so content, not having a care in the world as they chase eachother in the muddy lawn, playing tag. I uncounciously smile a genuine smile, turning my head back to the pavement. The small things in life, the pleasant ones, whether you are relaxing on the beach with your family, of baking cookies with your mom. They make him happy, and sad. Happy, because they are enjoyable moments that he feels should be cherished. Sad, because as a child, he never got those.
Before he knows it, he has already reached the school. Pushing the best he can through the wave of people, he makes his way to his locker. He starts putting in the combonation hastily, knowing full-well that he should leave as quickly as possible. His fingers fumbling with the lock, he lets out a frustrated sigh.
