Prologue
Everyone has had bad days. Days where you just want to curl up in a ball in your room and cry yourself to sleep. Imagine that day, for the rest of your life. I'm that sort of person with a day like that, ever since the terrible day of May 11, 2016. The day where millions died, and few survived. The day when zombies spawned in our world.
I have had the terrible experience of watching it start and unfold. All of this awfulness occurred when I was heading for my last class of the day, algebra, when the intercom burst on and announced:
All students [muffle, muffle] please do not panic. AAAAGGGHHHHHH. Oh, GOD! Please help us! [end transmission] Now all the kids in my class, except for two people and I, screamed and nearly shit bricks. I did not take any chances and decided to stay with my friends, Lauren and Jacob, and be civilized and read a good book until I heard other voices. Voices like groans and screams as loud as the speed of sound.
We then heard banging on the doors, really loud banging. We also heard
"Let us in! Please! Oh God, they're coming! PLEASE!" As I checked outside, the window then was covered in blood and decapitated faces. Looking over to my friends, I knew that I didn't just see that too. This was real and seemed all too real to those zombie movies I've watched and the books I've read.
"Guys, it's official," I said
"What?" Lauren asked in her British accent.
"Our school is overrun with zombies. And there's no way we can stop it." I replied
"Well, what do we do?" Jacob asked.
"Simple," I answered. "We sneak out and run like hell."
***
Waiting for zombies to leave you alone can take forever. Usually, zombies eat you before you even start to run.. Your red and blue guts spill out of your ripped up stomach, pouring out like water pouring into a cup. It took at least 20 minutes before they panned out. We silently opened the door, with the slightest creek, and silently tiptoed down the hall.
"Shane," Jacob said.
"Shhhh." I snapped back. "Do you want any zombies to find us?"
"Shane, just listen to Jacob." Lauren protested.
"Ok, here's the fucking deal. There are zombies out there and if we keep talking, we are going to attract a fucking hoard."
"That's the problem dipshit. There's one right in front of our bat blind eyes." And just like Jacob said, there was one lone zombie, who spotted us like a black panther sees its prey.
"Shit" I whispered under my breath. The zombie roared, and every other fucking zombie came jumping out of nowhere.
"Um, Shane, should we, you know, run like hell now?" Jacob asked
"Yea. Now is a perfect time. Steady, NOW!" And we ran for as far as we could. Since I was scared out of my mind, I ran faster than I normally did. As I kept sprinting for my life, Lauren and Jacob were trailing behind, a lot. Then I saw something that I would totally punch Jacob again for. As Lauren caught up, Jacob shoved her down, watching the zombies approach her, which almost made my heart stop. And Jacob didn't even stop, he kept going.
"Jacob, you bastard!" I screamed at the top of my lungs. I stopped as quickly as I could and grabbed Lauren by the hand.
"Hang on!" I yelled. These zombies were not ordinary zombies, they were faster and stronger. Then, like a total moron, I tripped and it looked like it was the end for us.
THE END....
Wait, you thought we actually died? HA! No, we still lived. I just so happened to find a gun, but since I have no experience with any sort of firearm, I was hesitant to fire.
"What are you waiting for? Just shoot the damn zombies already!" Lauren screamed
"Fine, already princess. I'll shoot the fucking zombies for you." I think I was a bit too harsh, but Then I just started shooting. I eventually got back up, and we ran again. After running for quite a long time, we spotted Jacob, heading for the band room. Of course, Jacob was too scared to block the door, so I put at least 10 things against the door, and we were safe for now.
I spotted Jacob, and I slugged him, really hard.
"The fuck man! Why'd you leave us behind like that your dick?" I screamed at him.
"I didn't know man."
"OH, SO YOU DIDN'T FUCKING KNOW?? THEN HOW ABOUT I SHOVE THE TRUTH RIGHT UP YOUR ASS!"
"Shane, calm down. It was an honest mistake." Lauren said, trying to calm me down.
"Fine, I'll calm down. But it does not excuse what Jacob has done." Right after I said that our barricade broke, leading in zombies. One immediately jumped on Jacob and gnashed his jaws into his neck. All of a sudden, time slowed down, and I saw Jacob fall to the ground, almost a zombie. Everything then started back up, and Jacob was a zombie, and he was bitting Lauren.
"LAUREN!" I hollered. I remembered the gun that I left in my pocket. With my shaking hands, I pointed the gun at Jacob and pulled the trigger. As the loud bang stopped, I immediately dropped the gun stared at my bloody hands, wondering what type of monster I was for killing my best friend. I rushed to Lauren to make sure she wasn't dying.
"Shit. Lauren, I.. I. I don't think.."
"Shane, I know. I didn't expect, well any of this." She begins to tear up. "I thought that I was gonna live long and hard through this. And now... Now... I'm gonna die here and not be with you ever!"
The sentence hits me on the face. She cares about me. She REALLY cares about me. I'm crying now. "Shane, take the gun. End it now."
"Lauren... Please don't let me kill you here. I... I.. I LOVE YOU! I ALWAYS HAVE! And, I never would kill you."
"I do too, Shane." We're quiet for a moment, then I press my lips to hers. This is my last moment with her. I'll never see her again.
"Goodbye, Lauren." I pick up the gun, one last time, and then,
BANG. She's gone. I've already lost two people in my life. I don't want to lose any more people. I grab the gun, just in case I need it again. I rush out of the school, and see a jeep! I sprint to the car, and find the keys in the ignition, with the driver dead in his seat. I shove the man off the seat, turn the ignition, and ram the gas.
I drive off away from my town, hoping to never come back. I wonder if the same thing is happening in other places, but I can't think about that now. Right now, I need to forget about what happened and leave to go off and find my own story, if I can.
