Alex's P.O.V
Today is the 100th day as school, but, just as any other high school, we didn't celebrate. The day went on as usual. However, my best friend, Missie, whom has helped me in my times of need, thinks today is the most important day of her life. Weirdo. My mind slowly shifts to thinking about my father, for whatever reason. As I go on about how horrible he is, my head aches and I have to get off my bike for a sec. Sheesh, why was I put in this stupid life? I'll never know. I look ahead and see the school is only about thirty feet away, so I just walk my bike over. My slow walking gives me time to look around at my surroundings and take in the gorgeous, Colorado sky. The tire of the bike runs into the rack jerks me back to the thought of school. "Another day of school," I say and give a fake woohoo.
"You're excited, too, Alex!?" Missie doesn't ever detect sarcasm.
"Ya, sure." My mind isn't really into it today, as it keeps wondering back to last night.
"Alex? Are you alright? Did something happen with your dad" She could always tell when I was sad
"Can I save it for lunch?"
"Uh, ya, sure...”
We walked to homeroom together, not talking at all. We were the last to arrive, but the teacher, Mr. Casson never says anything. I take a quick look around the room and notice that Caleb Gray is in my usual seat. Great... He seemed oblivious to the fact that I always sat there, and, to make matters worse, all the desks surrounding the area were covered with girls.
Missie spoke up, "Why don't we sit in the back?"
"Why not?"
We walked to the empty seats in the back, but can't get my eyes off of that Caleb fellow. I don't know why, but I guess it's just the fact he's in my seat. I don't even notice Missie trying to get my attention until she flicks my ear.
"Alex! What are you looking at? I'm trying to speak to you"
"Wha? Oh, sorry."
"Right... So how 'bout that Caleb boy?"
"Huh?"
Missie got a huge smile over her face and narrowed her eyes, "You like him, don't you."
"Missie!" I was insulted she would even think that, "What are you talking about? I'm just looking at my stolen chair. Geez!"
She snickered but didn't push me. Good thing too 'cause I was gonna lose it. Missie always think I'm into some boy. I noticed my face was hot. Oh gosh... More proof for Missie. Fortunately, the bell rang for homeroom to end. This is where Missie and I split.
"Seeya in math class," Missie said as we left the room.
"Right, see you later." I headed off to Science, suddenly remembering that Caleb is in that class too. He better not steal my desk again or he'll have it coming. At that I giggled a little, but quickly stopped. Not wanting to draw attention, I walked quickly to Science.
Caleb's P.O.V
Boy, do I love the Colorado sky. Too bad I can't walk to school or ride a bike. My parent’s mansion is too far. On the ride to school, I constantly look out the window, trying to tune out my sister's annoying 'songs'. My mom always says the help her learn music, but I swear, if I have to take much more, I'm going to explode. I see the school when I realize Samantha, my sister, is about to hit the high note. Oh no... Lucky for me, I can jump out of the car before she can hit it. Phew. I walk forward to the courtyard. It's always almost empty when I arrive. My parents think I should be at school early for whatever reason. I stroll along the hedges when I heavy weight hits my back and shoulders.
"Caleb!"
Oh geez..... "Urk, hi, huff, Makenzie. Can you get, heh, off, please?"
"Oh sure, Caleb, anything for you." Makenzie slides off my back and lands with a click of heels. "How's my handsome?"
"Fine. And you?"
"What? No cute nicknames for me! Fine then, Caleb." She put heavy emphasis on my name. "Anyway, I am so happy. Do you know why!?"
"Uhhhh....."
"Caleb!!" She looked at me as if I had eight eyes. "How could you?"
Crap.... Anniversary. "I remember...."
"Right... Anyway... You said you had something important to tell me."
"Ya, I don't think today is the best day to tell you, but I'm breaking up with you...”
Makenzie just stood there, eyes wide in shock. I saw a tear run down her cheek before she ran away. I sighed, part relief, part concern. I try to ignore angry looks from her friends as I walk to my homeroom. The hallway passes in a blur and I sit in any seat open, without realizing whose seat it is. I'm the only one here except for some geeks in the back. I close my eyes for a moment, but when I open them, a hoard of girls have gather around. When I'm about to tell them to go away, the bell rings, and I don't have a chance. As my mind relaxes again, I feel a burning sensation in the back of my head, like someone is watching me. I feel so stupid. I'm in Alex's desk. She must be mad.... Great. Apparently, homeroom is five seconds long 'cause the bell ring shortly after class started. I had to crawl out of the wall of girls to get to Science.
