Lesson Eighteen - Never Hold Grudges, Remember Facts.

It was the day of my mother's weddings and I really couldn't actually careless.

The whole thing was a joke.

It sounded like I was the worst daughter in the world right now but it was the truth. Weddings weren't forever in the type of life we had.

Wives and husbands come and go quicker than you could sometimes blink. There isn't one top 1% family in this city that have been in a marriage only once.

Plus I knew what the Kennedy's were planning with this marriage and I wasn't one bit amused.

My farther was still in the works with his lawyers to stop the stupid bitch from making us lose millions. She better be smart enough to at least sign a prenup.

Probably not.

Looking at myself in the full length mirror in my room I was impressed at the sight. Mom might be a pain in the ass most days but she did know fashion.

Even I was going to admit I looked good, even if it did make me sound big headed. I was wearing a lovely burgundy coloured dress that was tight around my waist and chest. It showed off all my curves in the right placed. The rest of the dressed flowed around me to the ground. I was wearing silver strapped opened toed high heels and a silver necklace worth at least fifty grand. My hair fell around my shoulders in waves to my waist and my makeup was done simple but still highlighted all the right features.

"So what do you think?" Asked Megan my stylist as she started to pack up all her things. "Your mom didn't want me going over the top with the makeup, not that you need much anyway."

"No, it's perfect Megan, thank you." I said sincerely. Megan always knew what I wanted even when I did know what I wanted done myself.

Megan's work was always perfect. She has been my stylist from I was fourteen. Megan was now thirty and very pretty, sometimes when I looked at her I couldn't help but feel jealous of her skin. It was always perfect, it was like she was wearing foundation but she never did it, it was just her.

"Miss Lyra." I looked over to the door to see Richard our family butler standing at the door. He too was invited to the wedding but he said he would prefer to help set up the event. So he was going to go over to the Kennedy's house soon to help.

"Yes?" I asked looking away from the mirror to Richard. He looked at me like a proud father would do to his daughter.

"You look stunning Miss Lyra."

"Thank You Richard." The grin never left my face. It was always the best feeling to get a compliment from the people you were the closest too.

"Mr Riker Kennedy is here to take you to the church." I nodded and groaned in annoyance.

Of course he was. Being one of my mothers bridesmaids for what ever reason she thought that was a good idea. Riker was also one of his fathers groomsmen.

In the end of course that meant we were paired together in my mother's fantasy world.

"I'll be down in a minute."

Richard nodded politely before walking out of the room. I took one last look in the mirror to make sure everything was in place before getting my small bag and throwing my phone into it. I wouldn't need much else anyway seeing as everything was paid for anyway.

Walking down the stairs I heard a wolf whistle and looked up to see Riker standing at the bottom of the stairs leaning again the wall. I was going to admit I looked him over as I felt his eyes do the same to me.

"I have to admit you look beautiful."

I could see it in his cloud grey eyes. He was being genuine about his comment and it made my breath catch in my throat. I was Lyra Anderson though and I didn't get caught off guard.

"I don't want to look beautiful, I want to look otherworldly and vaguely threatening."

He laughed. It was a proper laugh one that came from deep within him. I don't think I have heard anything so welcoming and comforting in my life. It was like river as it came out of him so smoothly. I never wanted him to stop laughing.

"It sounds like your back to being yourself princess."

I shrugged knowing I felt more like myself today. I couldn't let my thoughts of what was going on in my life take over. I faced the facts that I just needed to go with the flow. After all my life was never planned out so I don't see why I should start now. Riker was right when he said I was going to get myself killed being half out. This is who these boys are and it was clear I wasn't going to get rid of them anytime soon. So I was just going to embrace it and be myself. I'll deal with the challenges they bring as it comes along.

"I'm sorry for Ashley yesterday." He seemed sincere in his apology. I didn't know why he was saying sorry. The girl was his ex girlfriend she wasn't his responsibility in any shape or form.

"Don't know why you're saying sorry for her. Plus I'm not in the mood to play her games. If I entertain a clown I'll just become a part of the circus."

He grinned at me and looked at his phone quickly as I walked down the rest of the steps.

"We better go before we're late I'm sure you mom would just love that."

I rolled my eyes at the mention of my mother. She would just have a fit that I would have more attention over my late appearance than she would during the whole wedding. When it came to the public eye I was definitely the one that they paid more attention to. After all I was the future heir and the only girl in the Anderson family.

********************************************

I knew my mother wanted all eyes on her for her wedding day but even I thought the woman had taken it completely over the top. Outside the church paparazzi were everywhere with their cameras, shouting at us all trying to get our attention. Even though the car was tinted the cameras still flashed with the paparazzi trying their luck at getting what ever photo they could. In honesty I sometimes forgot how big and famous our family was in this city when it came to situations like this.

There was a red carpet from where Riker had stopped the car all the way into the church. He turned off the engine and looked at me.

"You ready for this."

I gave him a pointed look saying what we both knew to be true "What to be your step sister? It won't last long."

"Well isn't that a good thing." He winked at me and I scoffed and rolled my eyes. He was such a flirt, no one wonder girls always fell as his feet. He was handsome and smooth with his words. He was a deadly combination of everything that was my weakness.

In that moment I knew I was screwed. This was someone who could match every single one of my sarcastic remarks and insults. Someone who could keep up with everything I do and say. This was someone who actually lived more of a dangerous life than I thought possible and I couldn't help but get dragged into it. I swore to myself after Zane that I wouldn't get involved with someone like them ever again and yet here I was talking to Riker Kennedy like we were best friends. Since when did that happen because I didn't even notice when he came into my life.

"Let's get this over with princess." With that he opened the door and the paparazzi went wild at the sight of him. Not that I blamed them he would be voted the number one hottest Heir to a family fortune.

********************************************

Five hours later we were at the reception. I had admit my mother looked beautiful. I watched as she danced with her new husband Xavier Kennedy. I guess my mother was now officially one of them, the Anderson name now nothing more than just a name her children have.

I looked over at my brothers who sat around the table Alex, Hayden and Damon. Chase couldn't make it as he was currently on a mission with the Navy Seals but he phoned our mother earlier to see if she was having a good time. I wished Chase was here though it wasn't the same as having my family together without him here.

"You're being very well behaved today." I looked at my oldest brother Alex and shrugged my shoulders. I was hardly going to be a bitch to my mother on her wedding day. As much as I hated them getting married and what they were planning, she was happy. Maybe deep down that was all that I wanted for her. After all she wasn't born into the life we live she was just a normal girl who married into a rich world and is now just trying to keep herself afloat. No matter how messed up the way is.

"What can I say, I'm a changed person." I heard Hayden scoff and looked at him amused.

"You have something to say Hay-Hay." His blank look turned into one of annoyance. I could see why he was on every magazine cover and new headline around the world. My brother was handsome but then yet again we all were. I was surprised he was able to get away from football to be here for our mothers wedding.

"Don't call me that." His voice was as hard as ice but I didn't care. He wouldn't do anything to me anyway.

"Or what? You going to tell mommy on me Hay-Hay." I spoke in a baby voice which only annoyed him even more. It was so easy to whined him up sometimes. Most of the time I didn't even need to try.

I heard Alex sigh from beside me and take a sip of his whiskey. "I spoke to soon, there's the Lyra I know."

"What can I say, old habits die hard."

The song my mother was dancing to ended and she started to make her way over to us. I'm surprised in honesty, she had been spending the whole day with the Kennedy's. Though for the cameras we acted like happy families when we were anything but that when it came to her.

"Lyra won't you come up to dance?" Begged my mother. She had been trying to get me up to dance all night but I refused. Now don't get me wrong I'm a good dancer I just didn't want to right now. It was her spotlight anyway and she was having fun.

Clearly being kidnapped has done something to my head. I'm too kind to her today. I wasn't worried though I would probably go back to planning on how to dye her hair green.

"Please Lyra." She begged. "I haven't been this happy since you were born and seen your pretty little face."

I gave in and sighed. "Fine I'll be up for the next song."

She squealed and clapped her eyes in excitement. "Thank you." She give me a quick hug and I let her this time and watched as she went back over to Xavier.

"That was oddly nice of you." Said Alex suspiciously. I didn't blame him normally when I was nice it didn't end well.

"It's her wedding day I'm not that much of a bitch." I said standing up.

As I stood up and I bumped into someone. They fell to the floor and I was quick to go and help them but I stopped once I seen who it was. Ashley Blane.

"You bitch!" She seethed at me and I couldn't help but laugh. Her face was bright red from the embarrassment and I knew I wasn't going to hear the end of this.

"Bitches be trippen." I said I while laughing and looked at me brothers who all had different reactions on their faces. "Well, maybe I pushed this one."
