                              I
The rain fell in the sleeping town,
   rattling against the roof,
Holes in the ground turning into slippery
    puddles.
Wind whistling through the trees,
like
Mother Nature
was telling us the story of the universe
  but our ears never
  listening
    to her voice.

                          II
She was angry, thunder reverberating in the ominous clouds,
A flash of lightning seen from the kitchen window.
Children staying indoors after school, their faces containing boredom,
Mother is afraid of pneumonia.
We were never good at listening in the
        first place.

                           III
Colours, voices, a blurred image;
          flashes from the television.
The country of - is experiencing a gradual flood,
water up to your knees and water
    leaking into people's houses.
Nobody goes anywhere,
a state of emergency is issued by the
    Queen.
People are beginning to worry, wringing
their hands and saying " Ah me!"
Mother Nature doesn't let up easily on her
    punishment.

                           IV
Water is now up to your waist,
   most people have barricaded themselves
     into their home.
Electricity is for the most part gone,
      sometimes flickering into existence,
   but never lasting long anymore.
Children ask for more during mealtimes
and Mother struggles with the evaluation of how much more food they have left.
Weather radios crackle to life and
candles are some people's only light.

                           V
This is the end,
With water that comes up over your head,
Cracks in the home allow water indoors.
Wet feet begin to blister from covered floors.
   Children ask so many "whys?",
    And Mothers cannot reply.

                           VI
There is a town deep down in the sea,
   Everything is preserved but slowly
      rotting away,
And then what more can we say when it
      all rots away?
