SENT TO THE EYRIE TO FOSTER AS A CHILD, Tommen Cardon, the second son of Lord Stefan Cardon, was raised by Lord Jon Arryn along with Robert Baratheon and Eddard Stark. Although the three boys were as different as could be, Tom, Robert and Ned would grow up to be as close as brothers, each boy finding a true friend in one another. Under Jon Arryn's tutelage, the trio grew into fine men, each skilled at battle and the art of governance. When their time at the Eyrie ended, and when they each had to return to their respective strongholds, they swore they would never betray or fight each other in the years to come.
In the Year of False Spring, a deadly sequence of events is set into motion when Rhaegar Targaryen chooses Lyanna Stark over his wife, Elia Martell. The air is uneasy and lords and knights whisper of infidelity and madness. Now serving for House Baratheon, Tommen Cardon returns from his duties when he comes across an injured girl and her cocky little brother. Their names are Ella and Esiv Waters, and as odd looking as they are, and despite Robert's warning of being too forgiving, he pities them.
