Alek and I where playing around at the park by my house. I had taken his phone so he started chasing me. I started sprinting, faster and faster, and then I turned around to see him laughing as I ran.

“Madykel! Stop, duck!” he shouted.

But everyone’s natural reflex is to turn around to see what the person’s talking about. Right as I turned around I ran right into the tree branch, a mighty low branch if I do say so myself. BOOM!!!

Things started getting black. I couldn’t hear or see much, and I knew I hit it pretty hard.

I landed on my back, head smacking the hard ground beneath me.

Alek ran up to me as fast as he could to me and called 911. Or at least that’s what I think he did. He pulled out something blue and shiny, and he was talking frantically into it, as though I was hit by a car or something. Though the impact my head had with the tree was pretty hard.

I heard sobbing, and I felt something sticky and warm run down the side of my face, through my hair, landing on the grass. I felt like I was in pain, I wanted to cry. But I couldn’t. It restrained me. I released my hand and put it back on my head, and it was warmer, and now dripping down my face.

And that was it. I couldn’t feel the warmness any more. I couldn’t feel the pain. I couldn’t see even a blurry image, or hear the loudest scream. I was out. Out of presence. For a while anyway.

CHAPTER 1: Coming home to Starbucks : Day 1

I looked at the picture on my desk and smiled. “Good to be home huh JoJo?” I asked my eleven year old welsh corgi.

She barked in agreement and walked upstairs ahead of me.

I sat down on my light blue, moon chair and picked up my old neon green phone my old best friend gave to me, since my cell didn’t have any minutes. I pressed speed dial number one and before the first ring he picked up.

“Hey! How was San Diego? Was I sandy?” for some reason his cheesy humor he had whenever he wanted, always made me laugh.

“It was good. Pretty boring actually. How’s the past two weeks been?” I started messing with the ancient phone chord that has been bitten by JoJo at least a-thousand times.

“Amazing! Well other than the fact that my Madykel was gone!” he practically joke-yelled into the phone.

“Ha, how was it amazing?”

“I wrote a story for my girl and made a cover for it. It’s for our anniversary of dating for two years. Shh, don’t tell her.”

“Alek!” I started, sitting up straight.

“That’s not all I’m giving her though.” He said with a childish-taunting tone.

“Ok, just don’t tell me any more or I might have the urge to tell her. Well do you want to go get some coffee at the Starbucks in the mall?”

“Wait uh,” I heard him rummaging through stuff. “Found my wallet.”

“Where was it this time?” I giggled

“You don’t want to know.”

“So where was your wallet this time.” I said sipping our caramel frappe. I couldn’t help staring at his beautiful smile. After two weeks, it’s need to see him smile the eternity away.

“In my jeans pocket.” He smiled an evil grin to the tan wallpaper.

“Which pocket?” I teased.

“You know, the one in the dirty clothes bin.” He stammered like he didn’t know what he was talking about.

I just smiled and looked at his new Coldplay T-shirt.

“Here’s your present!” he pulled out a book and a box wrapped in neon green wrapping paper.

“You weren’t kidding about the book. ‘The Auto Biography of Madykel Hayla.’” I smiled as I read the cover and unwrapped the gift. “Nice, three wishes! Any rules?”

“Nope.” He just sat there and smiled.

“Oh, uh. Wish number one, I wish for unlimited wishes…”

“If I die young, bury me in satin. Lay me down in a bed of ros-“my phone sang.

“Oops. Brb.” I walked outside and at under a green umbrella in a very hard chair.

“Sis, grab your bike, ditch your boy, and come to the hospital right now!”

“What happened?” I was about to go into panic mode: scream my head off.

“Well, mom’s pregnant,” she said in a sweet little-perfect-angel tone. “Do the math!” she yelled and hung up.

“Oh my gosh.” I said to no one.

CHAPTER 2 : Biking After Newborns : Day 1

“Where are you going?” Alek asked as I ran into the room to say goodbye to our two year anniversary date.

“Hospital. My mom.” I spoke in short, fast sentences to try to make time go slower.

“Already?”

“Three weeks and two days early.” I started riding away, but then he caught up with me. “No, no, no, no, no, my mom’ll freak if your there!” I almost yelled in my quick escape to get to the hospital.

“Don’t worry, I’m just gonna wait in the lobby so I can accompany you home at nine.” He sounded so casual and easy to agree with.

“Fine.”

The rest of our short ride was silence, accept for the wind slapping our faces.

When we got to the hospital, I put my bike on the rack and while I walked towards the ER doors he put his bike next to mine and chained them up. He sprinted to catch up to my fast-walk.

As we hustled into the lobby, my nose filled with the scent of medicine and new floors, even though the flooring was at least twenty years old.

Alek started gagging and I knew it was either because of the smell, or the way a patient on a near by stretcher’s foot was deformed because he broke it or something.

I turned around for a brief second and said “Thank you so much for waiting here.” Gave him a short two second kiss on the lips and kept walking.

When I was about halfway to the front desk, I walked slower and started thinking about what I had just done. Our first kiss was because I was thanking him for waiting in the lobby while my mom was in labor!

I bet you’re probably wondering why our first kiss was after two whole years. Well it’s because we’re both really slow people if you know what I mean. Also, we’re only fourteen. Combined we’re twenty-eight. Not that old.

After I asked the secretary where my mom’s room was and walked up the stairs, until eight thirty-three, I didn’t think about our first kiss. All I thought about how hard my mom was squeezing my hand and how many ice cubes where going into her mouth so she wouldn’t break her jaw. One time she almost bit me!

Well then again, at eight thirty-three I was wondering who the dad was, and whether I had a brother or a sister.

But finally at eight forty-five when I started getting tired, that’s when I started thinking about our kiss. So I said good night and went down to the lobby. Alek and some third-graders where watching some weird show on Disney XD.

As soon as he heard me walk up, he got up and came to my side. “So?”

“It’s a girl and her name’s Rela.” I almost squealed.

We didn’t talk again until my doorstep.

CHAPTER 3: Kisses on the Tramp: Day 1 and 2

We both dumped our bikes on the side walk by the garden and stood in front door.

“Thanks for accompanying me home Alek.” I smiled at him and started reaching for my back pocket to get my key, but before I could get a finger in my pocket, he grabbed my chin with his thumb and index finger.

I had no choice but to stare into his marble-like hazel eyes. He stared back. As he closed his eyes, I could feel my heart racing at a-thousand beats a second. I closed my eyes as he leaned in and there it was, our official first kiss.

I felt like a butterfly, lightly floating through the air and being the happiest fourteen year-old alive.

When he pulled back it seemed too soon, like no time had past at all. It almost made me sad, but then again I couldn’t be sad because I was in 100% in mind-filled blissfulness.

“Well, finally I found out that you’re a good kisser.” Alek joked. Then he grabbed my hand and led me into the backyard and onto the trampoline. We just laid there on our backs and stared up at the stars and the orange painted moon.

“You now, I heard that in China and orange moon is considered good luck. Ooh, there’s O’ Rian’s Belt.”

“Wow, a shooting star!” I gasped. “Let’s both make a wish. 1... 2… 3!”

“I wish we would stay together forever!” we whispered in unison. I started giggling mentally and he started chuckling out loud, so I just gave up and laughed out loud along with him.

I don’t know when, but not long after that I fell asleep dead as a rock. A hundred percent cold. Apparently not long after me he fell asleep because when I woke up on the tramp, he was laying against the netting with the top of his head touching the cloth of the trampoline, his neck at a 90 degree angle.

Before I did anything more I checked my reflection on my turned-off phone to make sure I didn’t have bed head or a rooster tail. Then I got up and kneeled down in front of his fac. I gave him a quick kiss and sure enough he woke up, so I crawled back two steps and sat cross legged as he got up with his clueless expression on his drowsy face.

He had absolute zero balance, and the fact that we where on a trampoline probably didn’t help. He stumbled over onto his side and that really woke him up.

I couldn’t help but giggle at his drunken-like attempt to walk.

He blinked a few times and forced his eyelids open as far as they could go in attempt to clear the glaze from his eyes

He yawned and stretched his arms out wide and walked with me off the tramp and back into the house.

CHAPTER 4: Dad Misses and French Kisses: Day 2

“Mmm, nothing beats toaster waffles overflowed with maple syrup.” Alek joked.

“Yup, nothing better.” I joked along with him. I couldn’t help but thinking that I was the luckiest girl in the world.

“So who’s the dad?” Alek asked before taking a bite of his syrup-smothered waffle.

“Uh,” I really had to think hard because a tat second I really didn’t know. Then I had it. The only possible suspect nine months ago was when my dad visited us. My dad that I see three times a year. My dad that my mom discovered to by my dad when I was six. Robert Kluckk.

“It’s my dad. Oh my gosh it’s my dad! Rela’s dad is my dad! Robert Kluckk is our dad!” at first I was quiet, but then I started to shout my crazy, yet true conclusion.

After a long silence he finally spoke. “Well… is that a good thing, or a bad thing?”

“I don’t… I don’t, know.” I stammered, hoping the gap would give me a wider range or words for my mind to think of, but I just couldn’t think of anything. “He abandoned us.” I wept. “He doesn’t care. He left us. He doesn’t care.” I had to take deep breaths to be able to have self-conciseness.

Really, I just didn’t know what to say.

I didn’t hear him walk over to me, so it startled me when I felt his hands rubbing my shoulders. I just stood there staring at nothingness. Trying to figure out if it really was a good thing or a bad thing. Thinking, why would this happen? My answer: I don’t know.

I stood up and he hugged me. I hugged him back and tried to stop the tears from coming, but they overflowed my mind with such a force that the Great Wall of China couldn’t hold them in.

I leaned back and kissed him. Not just because I knew it would get my mind off the subject, if only for a little while; but it would also release my nerves’ tenseness all throughout my body.

“Does that et your mind off of that for a while? I swear you where about to have a heart attack.” He said, with a faint smile, trying to lighten the mood.

I did a short “Ha.” And then went back to staring into his marble eyes. “Well thanks a lot. Now I remember what we where talking about. How will I forget now?” I said sarcastically, smiling up at him. My next actions where the answer to my words.

I grabbed the sides of his face and forced our lips to meet. In truth, it did help me forget the subject of the moment.

This kiss was way better than they could ever describe it in the books. It was truly indescribable. At that moment I knew I was in love and I just wanted to shout it to the world. Though since my lips where busy, I opened my mouth a crack and whispered it into his lips.

Either he heard it or he was thinking the same thing, because then he whispered “Love you.” Back into my lips.

He kept his mouth open and put his tong into my mouth. I put mine up and they met. We both gave a nervous chuckle, but neither one of us pulled away. We both just smiled into each others lips.

In my head I was screaming, “OMG! I love him and he loves me too!” and “You are such a kisser. I love you!” I screamed the second one so loud in my head, I was hoping he could hear it. And I’m pretty sure he did, because I swear I heard his head screamed the same thing back at me.

CHAPTER 5: Good Kissers: Day 2

As he pulled away after the ten minute kiss, I was so happy I just had to let it out somehow, so I smiled a smile wider than anyone in the world had smiled, and apparently it didn’t look that weird, because Alek smiled back.

“Be right back.” He got up and walked down the long curvy hallway.

“K.” I said to my Black Airwalk tennies. Then I got a devilish grin on my tan face and got an idea. I ran and got a piece of paper and pen and wrote, ‘Find me! Then shut up and…’ and on another piece of paper I wrote, ‘…kiss me! <3.’

I left the first piece of paper on the table and grabbed a piece of tape. I quietly ran down the stairs and taped the note to the door of the guest room and shut the door behind me. I stood behind the door so when he opened it we would be face to face.

“Madykel!” he tauntingly laughed. He stomped down the stairs and turned left to the hall. “There you are.” He said tauntingly, obviously reading the note. He opened the door and grabbed my chin quick. As we closed our eyes I grabbed the sides of his face.

He put his left arm behind my back and I thought he was gonna do the same with the other side but instead he bent down and put his other arm under the backs of my knee caps and picked me up. He started carrying me up the steps and I threw my head back and laughed. He turned me faster then my head moved so my head wouldn’t bash into the wall.

“Thanks but you don’t have to do this. I can walk.” I giggled and smiled up at him as he kept his eyes on me the whole walk up the stairs.

“I insist.” He smiled back and bent his head down to kiss me once we’d gotten up the stairs. He jerked up right and stopped before we bashed into the front door. He carried me out and didn’t stop carrying me until we got to our bikes.

“Thanks, but where are we going?” for the first time that morning I was truly clueless.

“The hospital to see your mom and Rela.” He smiled because of my blonde moment.

“Psh! I knew that!” I lied and giggled at the same time.

“U huh. Sure you did.” He smiled sarcastically as he picked up his bike.

“Yeah. Lets go.”

CHAPTER 6: Trampoline Kissing: Day 4

“I can’t wait till tomorrow.” I said looking at Rela on the other side of the sound proof glass.

“Why, what’s tomorrow?” Alek turned away from Rela and faced me.

“The first day of school silly!” I smiled and turned to face him.

“Oh yeah. What are you wearing?”

“Something cute,” I teased. “And you’re gonna be the first one to see it.”

“Cool. So, bikes or walk.”

“Uh, let’s walk. Well bikes don’t do well with my outfit. So…” but I trailed off, not knowing what to say next. I couldn’t help but smiling at the picture of my outfit stuck in my head.

We where jumping on the tramp, again. And I slipped, so he jumped up real high, and landed on his back which sent both of up flying.

Once we stopped laughing we turned onto our stomachs, just staring into each others’ eyes.

I noticed the small sweat marks on his shirt and smiled. “You know you can take your shirt off.” And my smile inched bigger

“Eh, I don’t kn-“ but I cut him off.

“Seriously, you can.” And I felt my smile get as big as it could without looking weird.

He obviously knew my plan would always have a reason so that he couldn’t say no, so he smiled and stood up.

I sighed and then let out a nervous giggle, which changed my smile. After I was done daydreaming about the daydreams I had about this, I got up and smiled once more.

I couldn’t help but think that he looked sooo sexy! He had a full six pack, and biceps as big as an ocean. ‘Dang!’ I thought. ‘I am so lucky.’

I started walking towards him. “You know, you where hot before, but now you are just 100% sexy!” I smiled and stroked his muscular chest. I knew that I looked like some desperate creep from a dramatic movie, but I honestly didn’t care. I looked up into his hazel eyes and smiled once more.

I licked my lips and grabbed the sides of his face.

He wrapped his arms around my torso and grabbed my back, pulling me closer.

“I love you.” He said staring into my eyes.

“I love you too.” I smiled, staring back into his eyes. And our lips met.

That kiss, was way better then any of the others before that.

CHAPTER 7: Weddings and Dressing: Day 4-5

That night we had a contest of who could stay p the longest by jumping on the tramp.

And then I had the weirdest dream.

I was at my 18th birthday party and I was cutting the cake. I was wearing an elegant light blue ballroom gown, with sparkles all around the stomach, with a dark blue rim.

Alek tapped me on the shoulder, wearing a white tuxedo, and a light blue and black striped tie. I turned around and he was on one knee.

“Madykel, I’ve loved you for six years, will you marry me?” he smiled and pulled out a ring with a jade stone in the middle, and diamonds around it.

I started crying. The crying got so bad, everything turned pitch black.

When I regained my sight I was at my wedding, in the middle of the forest. I was wearing a bright-as-the-sun white strapless mini dress. With a long white veil, longer then the dress, and two inch heels, so I was just as tall as Alek. And him rocking the usual black tux and white under shirt.

“I do!” Alek smiled so big, I swore his face was about to explode.

“I do!” I practically yelled back. Again I started crying tears of joy so hard my vision turned black.

This time I opened y eyes and I was at my honeymoon.

We where lying on a beach on some unknown island. I was lying on top of him and smiling into his lips. Wearing a neon green bikini, and my hair pulled back. Him wearing the usual swim trunks, and muscles killing me with their hawtness.

“I love you too much!” Alek said as he pulled away for a moment.

“I love you mor-“ but I was cut off by the blackness once more.

I gasped and looked at my surroundings to see where I was. I was back at my house, laying on the tramp.

Alek was lying next to me, still without his shirt.

I sat up and stroked his chest with my first finger, trying to tickle him awake. When that didn’t work, I bent over and kissed him. Then sure enough he woke up.

“Good morning Alek. It’s the first day of school, we gotta get going.”

“Huh? Oh yeah. Hey I had this weird dream last night. We where eighteen and-“ I cut him off.

“Wait lemme guess. My birthday, then wedding, then honeymoon right?”

“Yeah.” He smiled. “How did you know?”

“Lol. I guess we had the same dream.” I smiled. “Let’s go.

‘I brought my clothes with me, just in case.” He said grabbing his dark blue Adidas bag. He paused for a moment in awkwardness. “Can I use a shower?”

“Uh, yeah. Use mine. I’ll use my mom’s.” I couldn’t help but smiling at his question. And as soon as I said ‘mine’ he couldn’t help but smiling either, and we started laughing as we walked back inside.

“ There are towels in there.” I said as I got my outfit from my room.

“When I was dressed I heard a “Madykel, Madykel!”

I walked in front of my bathroom door and stopped. “Yes?”

“Could you get my bag from the kitchen?”

“Sure. I couldn’t help but smile as I walked down the hallway to the kitchen.

I knocked on the door and he opened it a crack, just big enough to stick his had out.

“Thanks Madykel.”

“Welcome.” I giggled nervously

CHAPTER 8: Be Mommy Be Daddy : Day 6

In health class before Mr. Burnes came in me and Alek texted each other, even though we sat just two desks away from each other.

GfriendOfA: I <3 u!

M’s Guy!: I <3 u more!

GfriendOfA: imposs!

M’s Guy!: u wish!

GfriendOfA: Mr. B’s comin. <3 u!

I looked up at him and he was smiling his “SO HAPPY” smile at me, so I smiled back.

“Attention. Clazz haz now begun. Ok, thez zemezster we vill be doing the babez.” He said using his unknown accent. “Now, pick a partner and zit by them.” He ordered.

Alek grabbed his stuff and sat in the desk next to mine. He smiled at me and I smiled back.

“Ok uh, Aleek and Madikill. Go peek a babi.” He pointed to the dark blue play-pen filled with rubber dolls.

“Uh, it’s Madykel and Alek.” Alek said, correcting Mr. Burnes as we got up.

“Thatz vat I zaid! Madikill and Aleek!” you could tell he was getting really frustrated. Then he walked to the next group and got the heck corrected out of him all over again.

“Oh, this one is like a combination of us!” Alek said holding up a small baby girl.

She had one hazel eye and one green, blondish hair with a tint of brown, a small nose, large eyes, and tannish tinted skin.

“Oh, you are so right. Maybe if we had a kid it would look somewhat like that.” I smiled remembering that, that was way in the future. We both gave a nervous laugh, and continued with our assignment.

“So how are we gonna watch her?” Alek said smiling at me the way he did before he took his shirt off.

“Uh, I’ll have her one day, you the next. I’ll have her one weekend you the next.

“That works. What should we name her?” he said looking at the rubber doll.

“Uh, what about Malek, You know, a combination of our names.” I smiled at him, imagining him without his shirt on, jumping on the tramp,

“Yeah, I like it.” He leaned over, his lips near y ear. “But I like you way more.” He whispered, then leaned away and smiled.

I giggled at the baby, then when Mr. Burnes was looking away, I gave him a short kiss.

‘I love you.’ I mouthed at him

‘I love you more.’ He mouthed back

I rolled my eyes and he chuckled. What a good day

I had to find the chunky hand-held carrier, and a way to hold it while riding my baby blue bike.

“Took you long enough.” Alek said sarcastically when I’d finally arrived.

“What should we do?” I said, setting the carrier on the couch, and ignoring his slow-poke remark.

“Uh, just hang out I guess.” He said sitting on the wide chair facing the 42” flat screen.

I sat down next to him and we actually had some space in between the two of us.

“Yeah. My parents went to an opera in Denver and they wouldn’t be back till like four, but they’re staying the night because it’s such a long drive.” He smiled at me

I smiled back into his marble eyes. “Wow, all the way to Denver just for an opera?”

“Yeah, I mean it’s not like there’s that many good opera houses around here. I’m not even sure there’s one.”

“Oh yeah. Blonde moment.” I said flipping my hair, being dramatic. “Hey, are you getting hot, it’s kinda hot in here.” I smiled at my silly excuse for him to take his shirt off.

He smiled a devilish grin. “Yeah, I am.” He didn’t stand up, he just sat there to take it off. He had it just over his belly button, but I grabbed it from him.

He smiled into my eyes a playful, funny smile, and I smiled back at him.

I lifted his black tee over his head and tossed it on the floor. I threw my head back and laughed, and he laughed along with me.

CHAPTER 10 : True love is HAWT : Day 8

I stroked his muscled chest while looking at his rock-hard abs, I saw goose bumps growing on his arms. Probably because he was thinking the same thing I was thinking. ‘Are we in a movie?’

He took a deep breath, obviously trying not to laugh at my cold hands tickling his abs.

“You know you look so hawt!” I said looking at his darkened eyes, then back at his chest, trying to be just as hawt for him as he was for me.

He looked down at me and smiled.

I smiled back up at him for a brief second, then looked out into space, secretly thanking the universe for such a timely matter that made my heart flutter faster then a dragon fly’s wings flew. I leaned my head forward and into the very center of his chest, and fake yawned. I turned my body at a slightly different angle so our arms could wrap around each other’s backs.

Instead he pulled the ‘fake yawn’ excuse to put his arm atop my shoulders. I leaned my head back up and smiled. “You should do that more often.” I teased.

“Yeah I should.” He grinned and kind of chuckled as he said it.

“You know, I didn’t get to finish what I was gonna say earlier.” I teased and turned back to him.

“Oh, and what was that?’ he said playfully.

“You look so hawt! I luh-ve a guy with heart, and brains, and especially muscle.” I giggled indicating that I really didn’t think muscle was the most important thing. I stroked his chest, lightly scratching his chest, trying to be more then hawt.

“I like a girl who tries to be sexy for her boyfriend.” He said, moving my hand from his upper chest, to his six pack.

“Good to know.” I smiled deviously and drew circles with my finger around his bellybutton.

“He put his hands around the side of my torso and pulled me onto his lap. I turned around to face him and smiled.

“Hawt!” I whispered. Finally we where eye to eye, and I liked it better then being uneven.

I put my hands on his abs and scooted myself closer. He wrapped his arms around my back and onto my stomach and pulled me even closer.

I turned around so I could face him easier, and wrapped my arms around his neck, and intertwined my fingers in his soft brown hair. I messed with his hair for a moment, looking at his smirk.

He smiled deviously and laid his hands flat on the small of my back. He leaned in and immediately opened our mouths so our tongs could meet. I sighed happily, and released my tense muscles.

It was about an hour later when we finally pulled away. We smiled and I gave him a short kiss and rolled back to my side to the chair.

By then his hair was a tangled mess, and my shirt was wrinkled as an elephant.

I sighed and smiled at him, letting him know that was the perfect kiss.

“Be right back.” Alek smiled and walked down the hallway to his room.

I smiled and giggled to myself. ‘I hope these next four or so years go by quickly.’

CHAPTER 11: Bikini Trouble :Day 9

Dear Madykel,

I had to sleepwalk you home last night at nine o’ clock. You where so tired. :)

You are so cute tired. Hope you’re not tired for school though. I took care of Malek for you. I will watch her tonight because it’s my shift.

I already miss you. I’ll pick you up to walk to school at 7:00 sharp.

I LOVE YOU,

Alek

p.s. come over to my house at 5:00 tonight and we can go swimming! I bet you’d like that! :). I would like that too to be honest. :)

LOVE YOU SO MUCH,

Alek

I read it that morning before school, and I read it again before coming over to his house after school

I picked out a gold sparkly bikini with the word, ‘LOVE’ written on the butt. The only thing holding the two up triangles of my top up was a thin silver string that wrapped around my neck.

“Sexy.” I sad to the lots of my tan skin showing in my reflection from the mirror.

I straightened my hair so it would look better dangling halfway down my back, since I usually had it up in it’s wavy pony tail.

“Where are you going?” mom asked, burping Rela.

I completely forgot that I didn’t have all the free range I’d had the past two days before. “The Spencers’, to go swimming.” I said noting that I had my swimsuit on.

“Ok. When will you be home?”

“Curfew.” I said, remembering my awesome ten o’clock at the latest.

“Don’t forget sunscreen.” She pointed to my tan arms.

“Yeah, I know. Bye.” I said walking out the door.

I enjoyed my sleek hair whipping in the wind just behind me.

I looked down at where Malek was supossed to be, and she wasn’t there. For a moment I panicked, but then I remembered Alek had her for the day.

Somebody whistled at me. I turned to see who it was and it was Domenic James: the biggest pervert in the class.

He hopped on his bike and started riding after me. I peddled as fast as I could and raced ahead of him.

When I got to Aleks house I just opened the door and carried my bike in with me. I slammed the door behind me, locked the deadbolt, and gasped for breath.

“Inhaler?” I wheezed.

“Yeah.” He ran to his room and got one covered in dents. I obviously didn’t care.

I breathed in the medicine, and it took me a minute, but I was fine.

“You didn’t have to come that fast.” He teased.

“Domenic Jame-“ a loud banging on the door interrupted me.

“I know you ran in there Madykel! Open up!”

Alek opened the door and poor-little four-foot-tall Domenic screamed his little heart out and ran home.

CHAPTER 12: skinny kissing : Day 9

Alek pulled out a chair for me at their small dinner table.

“What’s all this?” I said as I sat down and he scooted me in.

“Dinner.” He smiled then brought in two plates. Each with one hot dog and a pile of chips. “Bon’ ‘apatite.” He chuckled and grabbed his can of Cola.

By the time we’d finished, I couldn’t wait to go outside. I couldn’t help but imagine the water shine off his wet muscles! I couldn’t wait to have him put on my sun block for me. I just couldn’t wait!

All of the sudden he was standing above me, smiling. He put his left arm behind my back and his right arm under my kneecaps.

He picked me up as though I was as light as a feather. We stepped onto the soft grass but I stopped him. “Wait! I need sun block.” I said tickling his upper chest with my long nails.

He carried me back onto the porch and set me on a chair. Alek grabbed the sunscreen off the grill and held it out to me. “Do you want to or…” he said with a big grin running across his face.

“Well, I am pretty bad at it.” I said scooting up in the chair so he could sit behind me to get my back.

“What about your face?” he said dabbing a blob of white goo on my nose.

“Did that at home.” I said rubbing it into my skin anyway.

“Okay.” He picked me up again and walked me to the edge of the in-ground pool. He tossed me in and I squealed as the cold water hit my skin.

When I popped back up we started laughing.

I was right earlier, about his wet skin glistening into the sun.

I waded towards him in the shoulder deep pool. I pulled him in and he made a huge splash as he did a belly flop. Since I couldn’t quite reach his lips, I leaned down a bit and kissed his wet chest.

Once we’d gotten back out he tried to pick me up again, but he lost his balance and we both went making a huge wave into the pool.

We tried again only this time when we went splashing down, I held on tight and wrapped my arms around his neck, and my legs around his torso.

I looked into his hazel eyes and smiled. He looked back into my green ones and smiled devilishly.

He put his hands on my back and smiled as he pulled us closer and closer together. “I love you my hot girl.”

“I love you too my hawt beast.” I giggled.

He leaned in and I sighed happily. I closed my eyes, and this time I was the first one to stick my tongue into the others’ mouth.

He sighed and slid his hands lower until they where touching the top rim of the bottom of my bikini. I could feel his smile against my lips. He pulled me up real quick so I could relax and not try as hard to keep myself up.

CHAPTER 13 : Your Love is my Drug!: Day 9

All the sudden we heard a loud infant scream. I pulled away and turned my head in the direction of the house. I hopped off Alek and he released his grip on my back that was holding me up.

“I got this.” I smiled and hopped out of the pool

“It’s my-“ he started to say but I cut him off. He got out of the pool in protest.

“You took care of her last night for me, so I’ll do this one little thing.” I said as I stepped onto the porch.

“I just fed her before you came over so…” he looked around and started swimming in circles to make me laugh. It worked.

“So?” I had a smitten grin on my face as I stepped backwards into the house. “Keep my spot warm for me!” I teased.

“I will.” Alek said as he slid back into the cold water until only his head was above.

I changed her and walked back through the house humming our song: Your Love Is My Drug, by Ke$ha.

I walked back out and he was floating on his back. His ears where under water so he couldn’t hear me, and his eyes where closed, so he couldn’t see me.

I took a running start, and jumped a huge cannon ball into the pool, landing about three inches from Alek. As I started swimming away, laughing, he grabbed me and jerked me backwards towards him. I screamed a laugh, but didn’t argue.

He turned me around and held me close. I wrapped my legs around him once more, and tangled my hands in his wet, messy hair. He started walking backwards, loosing his balance in the huge pool. We finally got to the shallow end and he flopped down in the water so he was sitting down, leaning against the edge of the pool.

He smiled and pulled me so close to him, I could feel the grooves of his abs pressing against mine.

He lightly swiped a piece of hair out of my face and tucked it behind my ear.

He got up again and laid us next to the edge of the pool, so I was laying on top of him.

I really had to hold onto his shoulders so that I wouldn’t splash into the water.

We got up not long after, and he grabbed my hand as we went back inside to the warm house. I turned to face him as we walked to the house and looked deep into his marble eyes.

“We’re in love aren’t we?” I smiled then sighed.

“Yes. Yes we are.” He smiled back at me and then put his arm over my shoulders, and rubbed my arm.

I leaned my head sideways, and it fit right into his neck. I couldn’t help but look at the bit maple tree in front of us. All of the sudden all of the leaves looked like hearts.

Then I saw the carving on the tree: IM IN <3 WTH MADYKEL! In a giant heart, he’d obviously cut with a dull pocket knife. I swerved us towards the towering tree so I could get a better look at it.

I found the pocket knife lying on the ground at the base of the tree. “May I?” he nodded and released his arm from above my shoulders.

I carved it, taking my time and making sure it looked perfect.

I showered quickly and grabbed my pink shirt with the tight Levi vest, and jeans rolled up three times. My pink leopards print Converse’ and my dark, full-lash mascara.

I left a half an hour early so I could walk the mile and get there early.

Surprisingly he was sitting in his usual comfy, black chair; smiling at me. He got up and walked with me to the counter.

“Two medium Watermelon Waves.” He smiled at the obviously bored cashier.

“Ok, that’ll be $7.38 please.”

He handed the cashier a ten dollar bill. “Keep the change.” He smiled.

“Well you’re extra happy.” I said before sipping my smoothie.

We sat down on our small leather chairs. “Yes I am. I realized that I can engage you the day you’re sixteen.” He smiled, letting me know he was only joking.

I smiled back. “The sooner the better!” I smiled and took another sip.

“But we can’t be married till you’re eighteen. That’s two whole years of being engaged! Just kidding.”

“Ooh, I love you sooo much!” I squealed. “And you don’t have to ask my dad because I only see him twice a year.” I said sarcastically.

“I love you too.” He put his arm on my shoulders and sighed.

I started tickling his abs. “Leg’s go to the elementary school.” I smiled.

“That way we can kiss.” I whispered.

“Ok!” he smiled and got up.

We got up and he put his arm back over my shoulders, so I put mine behind his torso.

‘Man,’ I thought. ‘This is a pretty good day.’

CHAPTER 15: School makes a Difference: Day 11

When we got to the school we sat on the stairs leading up to the slide.

“You know, you look awfully hot.” I said pointing to his darkened red shirt.

He sat down his drink as I grabbed his shirt and pulled it up over his head.

Just then a wind settled where we where sitting. “Ooh! Now I’m cold” he grabbed for his shirt but I held it just out of his reach.

I scooted closer to him. “I’ll help you with that.” I smiled as I hugged him and bent my head into his neck.

He freed one of his arms and laid it over my shoulders.

“Lol, I thought you where cold.” I pushed him playfully.

“Well, my lips where.” He smiled and turned to face me.

I turned towards him and smiled back.

“You know what’s colder.” He teased.

“What?” I played along.

“My stomach.” He said patting his six pack.

“Ooh and how am I supposed to make them warmer?”

“Well, if you hugged me.” He grinned and stood up.

So I got up too and hugged him. I leaned my head back and faced him. We kept our arms around the other ones’ back, but kissed at the same time.

It was very uncomfortable with our arms wrapped like so; so after a few seconds we stopped.

He put his shirt back on and sat back down. Of course I mimicked what he did, and we both smiled.

“Bzz bzz. Bzz. Bzz.” My phone went off.

Sista!: tim 2 cum home.

A’sGirl!: k. b home in 5.

“Sorry, I have to go home.” I apologized while standing up.

“It’s okay.” Alek reassured me. He gave me a good bye kiss and I slid down the slide. After I was about thirty feet away I turned around to wave but he was already gone.

The whole walk home I couldn’t help but think, where’d he go? Why did he leave so fast? Why did he sound happy when I said I had to leave?

What is up with that?!

CHAPTER 16: Journal : Day 15

8/1/12

Journal,

I think we moved too fast. In a matter of two or three days we went from no kissing, to me sitting in his lap kissing.

Alek started backtracking a few days ago. We can be like that in four or so years, but not now. I mean we even talked about marriage, I mean, I know we where joking but still!

I guess we didn’t know what to do with our love, but use ideas we’d gotten from movies.

I mean, we’re only freshmen!

We haven’t even really talked in like three days! I guess we’re just trying to figure it out by ourselves.

I wrote six pages of love sayings. Here are a few:

·

Love is difficult, but it’s real.

·

You left me but I can’t breathe without you

·

This kiss is the first, and the last of forever.

I really want to kiss Alek, but not like I did at his pool or on his chair in his living room.

Alek,

If, God forbid, this is my entry, I want you to know that I love you and you are the best.

If I would’ve known this was the last entry I would’ve loved to have kissed you just one more time, and make it last forever.

LOVE YOU,

MADYKEL

I sighed and put the notebook back under my mattress.

“Maybe I need some rehab. Or maybe just need some sleep…”

I struggled to get my dumb phone out of my skinny-jeans’ pocket.

“…I’m seeing in my dreams. I’m lookin down every alley, I’m…”

“Hey Alek.” I smiled at my shoreline green wall.

“Hey, do you want to meet me at Starbucks. I want to talk to you.” He didn’t have his usual pep in his voice.

“Uh, yeah sure. See you in five?” I asked dullely.

“Yeah.” He hung up.

When I got there I found him sitting near the front window, drinking hot chocolate.

I didn’t think we’d be sticking around very long, so I didn’t order anything. I just sat down across from Alek.

“Hi.” I murmured to the table.

“Hey.” He tried to hold my eyes with his, but he couldn’t even catch them.

“I just wanna say, if you’re planning on dumping me, I’m sorry. I need to be with you.” I talked so fast, that I couldn’t even understand myself.

“Dump you? Madykel I love you.” He grabbed my chin and forced me to look at him.

I just stared at him blankly.

“I just wanted to tell you that I think we shouldn’t be so ahead of ourselves with the kissing. You know, a little too mature…” he trailed off with his embarrassment.

“I was thinking the same thing.” I caught his eyes and smiled. Maybe in four or

so years, but not now.” I whispered.

“Exactly.” He smiled. “So no more sexy kissing.” He chuckled.

I giggled along with him. “Tell you what, how bout just on special occasions.”

“Like birthdays, New Years.” He smiled.

“Special awards or prizes.” I smiled back.

“After graduation, whenever?” his eyes said ‘please, please, please!’

“Totally.” I smiled.

“That wasn’t as good as I thought it was gonna be.” I said as we where walking to his electronic bike.

“Yeah, I agree.” He squeezed my hand and smiled.

“Where’s Malek?” he asked.

“Uh, man I’m such an idiot. I left her in my gym locker! I knew it was a stupid idea to put her in there in the first place!”

He got in front of me and hugged me. “It’s ok. At least she’s not real.” He chuckled in my ear.

“Yeah. That would suck so bad.”

“Life sucks.” He said remembering me of the crappy movie we just watched.

The ride home was cold. The leaves where turning brown. It was cloudy. It was mid November.

By the time we’d got to my house we where halfway frozen so we went inside.

“Hi Alek.” My mom smiled, trying to give Rela her bottle, but she refused.

“Hi Mrs. H.” he smiled and started walking up the stairs.

I quickly followed before mom could embarrass me with any questions.

“So what should we do?” Alek asked sitting on my unmade bed.

I sat down beside him. “I don’t know.” I said as I fit my head onto his neck.

“How about we dance.” He smiled as he put in a Ke$ha Cannibal and Animal mix CD.

We started dancing and jumping on the bed, and screaming the words. Thankfully when I was little my mom soundproofed my room.

By the time the CD was done, we where dead.

“I’m exhausted.” I said using my inhaler, then giving it to Alek.

He took a big gulp and chuckled. “I’m beat. Oops, time for me to go home.” He said looking at my blue clock radio.

“Kay.” I smiled, and he gave me a short kiss.

“I’ll text you.” He said walking out the door.

“I’ll text back.” I shouted after him.

He gave me thumbs up as he rode off and I smiled.

“Maybe this ain’t so bad.” I whispered to myself.

CHAPTER 18: I’m in a coma?

“Madykel, Madykel! Please wake up!” weep. “I love you! Don’t die!” some one whisper-cried.

At first I could barely hear it. But it got louder, and louder until it was lifelike.

I could feel someone hold and squeeze my hand. Then I could feel their warm tears.

I was gently being pulled from a cold, unseen darkness to the human body. It felt good at first, but then I felt pain. I could feel two needles, one in each arm. A tube was running up my nose, which was making my throat very dry, and trying to get me to gag. And there was something on my finger. I could tell it was shaped like a chip clip, but I could barely feel it.

All the sudden my head was throbbing. I swear it was the worst migraine pain ever.

By then I had come out of the darkness just enough to have the strength to do the first instinct I would’ve done a long time ago.

I slowly took my hand away from the mystery person to put it on my head. I moaned when I realized that, that just made my head throb even more. I quietly gasped from the pain in my arm, and my dried out throat, and especially the migraine.

The person gasped and leaned away. “Madykel, if you can hear me, squeeze my hand or say something or both.

Wait, I know that voice! Oh my gosh it’s… “Alek.” I moaned then tickled his palm.

I tried to open my eyes but it took a minute.

His eyes got watery and I could see he was fighting the urge to cry. “It’s ok. You can cry.” I said with my voice scratchy. I elevated the bed so I could hug him.

He sat on the edge of the bed and just cried into my shoulder.

I leaned away and smiled shyly. “Why are you crying?”

He softly chuckled. “You where in a coma for a month and seven days.” He whispered looking at the bed.

“Oh, how-“ but I got interrupted.

My mom walked in looking like a wreck. “Alek it’s… oh my God!” she ran over to me and squeezed me so hard I thought I was gonna pass out again.

“Mom!” I gasped for air.

“Oh I’m sorry. It’s just been thirty-eight days! And I miss you!” she was crying harder then ever.

“Yeah, Alek told me.” I smiled and looked at him. He smiled back.

“Oh I love you!” she smiled and hugged me again.

I hugged her back. “I love you both.” I smiled as I leaned my chin on my mom’s shoulder.

“So how did I get into the coma anyways?”

CHAPTER 19

“So how did I get in a coma?” I asked when we’d settled down.

“You tell it Alek, you where there.” Mom said getting up. “You’re probably starving. What do you want to eat?”

“Uh, a big muffin I guess.” I had just realized the sharp growls and aches coming from my stomach.

“Alek?” mom asked.

“Nothing for me.” He smiled at her, then back at me.

“You know, you can sit on the bed, in stead of kneeling on the hard tile.” I said when my mom had left the room.

He got up and sat on the edge of the bed, smiling at me the whole time.

“The last time I saw you, you looked a bit younger.” I said studying his face.

“Like what?” he said handing me his phone.

“Um,” it took me a while to scroll down to the picture I had last seen him as. “This one.” I said, making the picture full screen.

“That was three years ago.” He chuckled.

“But we’re fourteen, you aren’t eleven in that picture.” I said confused.

“We where fourteen, three years ago. We’re seventeen now, going into senior year.”

“What?” I must’ve been dreaming while I was in a coma.

“So our first kiss wasn’t in a hospital when my little sister was born?”

“You don’t have a little sister.” He looked puzzled.

“And we where never being sexy in your pool?”

“You mean like having…” he whispered, but I cut him off.

“No! Just like, you holding me and us kissing.” I was so nervous I could barely talk.

“Hell no!” he looked away, embarrassed by the situation.

“And Domenic James never chased me like the pervert that he is on the way to your pool?”

“He moved in second grade.” He smiled and gave me a short kiss.

“What about us going out since we where twelve?” I hoped that one detail was true.

“’’The one true thing you dreamed, or thought of, or whatever.” He grinned and sighed. “I’m so glad to have you back.

“Aw.” And again we hugged for a long time.

“Oh yeah, so how did I get into a coma again?” I asked as I pulled back from our tight embrace.

CHAPTER 20

“We where playing around at the park by your house. You had taken my phone so I started chasing you. You started sprinting, and then turned around to face me.

“I tried to yell at you so stop or duck, so of course your natural reflex was to turn around and see what I was talking about. Right as you turned around you ran right into a low, pine tree, branch.

“You landed flat on your back, because the impact flung you backwards. I ran as fast as I could to you, and called 911.” By this time he was flat out crying. “I hoped that you weren’t dead, but I, started… plotting.”

“Alek! Don’t ever, think, anything like that. Even if I was gone.”

“The first thing I’d do in heaven if you committed suicide is slap you!... then hug you to death, because I would 100% know that you cared about me that much.” I smiled.

“But I love you too much to live without you.” Alek argued, looking as serious as a lawyer trying to prove their point in a murder case.

“Me too. But I wouldn’t want that for you.” Now I was the one who wanted to cry.

“Would you rather me be in pain for missing you?” He said sadly, looking at his hands in mine.

“Everyone I know would already be in pain, including your parents. Would you want them to be in triple the pain, plus other people too?” I already knew his answer. So he didn’t answer.

After the moment, well, most of the moment of sadness was over our heads, he broke the silence.

“I love you so much.” He said hugging me tightly.

I squeezed him back, “I love you too.”

Then of course, he ‘lightened the mood’ by being his silly, playful self.

I could feel him rubbing my back, but only over my bra strap. He fake tried to unbutton one of the metal tabs.

I pushed him away playfully. “Alek!” I giggled.

“What?” He said like an ‘innocent’ five year old boy that had tried to eat the cookie jar down, but had dropped it and broke it in the process.

We started laughing like hyenas, but then my mom walked in.

“What’s so funny?”

“Yu had to be here.” I smiled at Alek

CHAPTER 21

“Madykel, do you remember what happened before you ran into the tree?”

“I remember crying my eyes out and, hugging you, but I don’t remember why.

He smiled at me, but not just with his mouth and eyes, but with his heart. “Because you said yes to this.” He pulled out a little black box from his shirt pocket. He opened it and it was the most beautiful thing ever.

There was a circle of diamonds around the best centerpiece ever. It was a thin outline of a diamond, but inside it was a picture of me and Alek at our junior prom.

I started crying like I had the month before, and hugged him. In between two weeps I whispered softly in his ear, “Yes!”

He pulled away from the hug and changed it into a kiss.

I heard the heart monitor thing go off, but I didn’t care. I just kissed him back.

A nurse rushed in but stopped when she realized why the heart monitor thing was going off.

Heck! It would’ve happened whether or not I was in a coma.

I pulled away and smiled at him, “I love you.”

“I love you too.” He stood up and grinned.

“Hey, where do you think you’re going?” I sat up and grabbed his wrist.

“To go get something.” He smiled and walked out of the room.

Thirty minutes later he peeked his head in the small room.

“Hey.” I smiled at the half of his face I could see.

He walked in carrying the cutest puppy in the universe.

It was a white Pomeranian with a light brown, really fluffy head.

“Oh my gosh! He is so adorable.” I said grabbing the puppy and petting it to death.

As revenge it started licking me to death. I looked at Alek and we started laughing.

“Where did you get her?” I playfully scratched his head at though he where the dog, and we both started laughing.

“My neighbors’ dog had puppies.” He smiled. “Yes the ugly dog.”

“Wa, how did that happen?”

“Dunno.” He smiled and looked at the ring. “So when should it be?”

“When should what be?”

“The wedding.” He smiled and pointed to my finger.

CHAPTER 22

“So?” my mom asked when we’d gotten back to my house.

“So what?” I asked. Alek turned his head and laughed.

“So. When’s the wedding?” my mom smiled, and I looked at Alek.

“Wha-how’d you know?” I was so confused, I almost didn’t know what was happening.

“Well for one, the ring on your finger.”

I had just remembered that I hadn’t taken it off for even a second, ever since Alek put it on my finger.

“And, well. Having Alek pretty much all to talk to, he decided to spill the beans.”

We started laughing. “Alek, go pick them up.” I didn’t laugh at that though, because I knew it was a pretty lame joke, but Alek laughed to be polite. For some reason that just made us laugh harder.

“Oh yeah, when does school start?” I asked while chewing on a mint, salt water taffy.

“Oh yeah, um, tomorrow. Alek frowned and put his hands in his pockets.

“Please mom! Please!!!!!!!!!”

“I don’t think so, the doctor said you needed to relax for at least a week. And your head, oh what about that? You could get a horrible migraine or bump it on something. Or-“ I cut her off.

“But the first week you don’t even do anything. Just learn schedules and where your classes are. So I wouldn’t get a migraine from learning too much stuff. And I’ll be extra careful not to bump my head on anything. I can’t miss the first week of school. I’ll absolutely die of embarrassment!” I crossed my fingers behind my back and prayed she’d say yes.

“You’ll be extra, extra careful?” she bugged.

“Yes mom.”

“Ah, what the heck.” She said smiling at me and Alek. I smiled hugely and hugged her.

“Thank you thank you thank you!!!”

After that Alek and I walked to the elementary school by our houses.

“So what did I miss?” I asked when we where sitting on top of the slide.

“Hmm. Not much. Well, your birthday. Oh, and we had sweet potatoes at least seven times.” He teased.

“Aww, no fair.” I joked along. “Why did you have to tell me that.” I did a puppy-dog face and we started laughing.

“We’ve sure laughed a lot today haven’t we?” Alek smiled.

I laughed again, just to prove his point. “Yeah we have. Lol, there’s one more.”

“Yeah.” His phone buzzed and he frowned when he saw what it was.

“What is it?” I frowned too.

“Skyler Lundin, bridge is falling down.” He said trying to make it at least a bit funnier.

“Crap!” I said.

CHAPTER 23

“Here, lemme have it.” I said snatching the phone from his hand and pressed ‘call.’

“But-“ he said reaching for it.

“Shh.” I laughed, and put my finger to my lips. “What the heck do you want!?!” I spoke firmly into the phone.

“Listen, I’m gonna beat Alek’s sorry-“ I cut him off.

“Well good luck with that.” I said sarcastically then hung up.

Sure Skyler was about three inched taller then Alek, but he was the wimpiest little dweeb you’d ever meet.

“And that’s been going on for how long?” I smiled as I handed Alek back his phone.

“Um, about four months.” He frowned at his shoes, then back up at me. Then we started laughing.

“So that’s why he looked dweebier then usual?” I smiled then remembered the slight swelling on Skyler’s cheek, nose, arm, and black eye.

“Maybe.” He smiled playfully and we laughed even harder.

“So, why did he threaten you and stuff?” I already knew the answer, but I felt like asking anyways.

“Um, I think it was because of a girl I like. But I can’t seem to remember her name. Maddy. No. Madilin, nope that’s not it. Madison? Uh, Mad… uh,” we cracked up the hardest we had since I’d gotten out of the torturous coma.

When we’d finally settled down, we smiled at each other. “You know, I’ve missed you so much, and guess what else I’ve missed a lot about you.”

“Um…” I smiled, and smiled even more when our lips met.

‘Ugh!” I grumbled as I pulled away and grabbed his phone from his pocket. I smiled and turned it off as I looked into his hazel eyes that looked more greenish in the sunlight.

He smiled back and grabbed my chin, forcing me to look up at him, not that he had to do that, I would’ve looked up at him anyway. “Did I die?” Alek asked out of no where.

“Uh, no. where’d you get that idea?” I was so puzzled, mostly because his eyes where so easy to fall into, it made my mind drain out of all it’s thoughts faster then I ever thought possible.

“Because I think I’m in heave. I mean, there’s an angel right in front of me.” He smiled and I blushed.

“I have an idea. No more of this lovey-dovey crap talk.” I said, getting up smiling.

“What?” now he was the one who looked confused.

“Let’s go back to my house.” I smiled and pulled him up. We walked back to my house, hand in hand. Not knowing what would be there.

But of course it was the worst-case-scenario. My mom, with tons of white silk scattered all over the floor.

“Mom? What are you doing? I uh, want a store bought dress. Uh, usually they look nicer, and more formal.” I was so embarrassed.

Especially when she replied, “I’m cutting new fabric for the couch. The cream gold color is fading out and getting dirty.”

“Oh.” I wanted to crawl under a rock. “I don’t remember it being so filthy.” I studied the newly surfaced blotches and tears all over the couch. “What exactly happened?”

“The most adorable dog in the world happened.” She said the first part like she was cooing a baby, but she said it like it was an extremely deadly word, unless you said it like that. But then, out of no where, she burst into hysterics. She couldn’t stop laughing!

We joined in with the lamest fake laughs ever.

“Ha. Ha-ha. Ha-haaa. Ha. Ha… ha.” And we slowly slugged to my bedroom down the hall.

As soon as I closed the door, we burst out into a series of whisper-laughs. I had to cover my mouth to keep the entire neighborhood, but most importantly my mom, from hearing.

But once we’d calmed down, we glanced at each other and burst into silent-laughs all over again.

CHAPTER 24

I walked into my bedroom after school and sat down on my unmade bed. I looked up at my clock, but saw something different on my wall.

The whole side of my wall was covered in red and pink phrases like: Alek <3’s Madykel more then anything! And: I love you, and I miss you every second that we’re apart.

Just then I heard a strange rumble come from my closet. I prayed to God it wasn’t a serial killer.

I walked closer and grabbed the small door knob. I took in a deep breath, I mean a very deep breath, and pulled the door open.

Out of no where Alek jumps out from under my bed and starts kissing me. I’m shocked, but very pleased because we hadn’t kissed in over four days!

I was scared, but also very happy that he wouldn’t stop kissing me. I was worried that our lips might be stuck together forever. Though it would have its perks.

I pulled away and smiled at him like we where at or wedding. Then his grin got bigger and forced our lips to meet again. I pulled away faster and shielded my face with my hand before his lips suffocated me. “Wait, what’s this all for?”

“Why don’t you remember?” he said childishly. “You missed your birthday. This is what I was planning to do anyway, so we celebrate now.” He smiled hugely and started kissing me again.

I had completely forgotten that I’d missed it. But I was so happy, I didn’t think about that much. All I could think about was Alek. Alek and me. Me and Alek. And of course, this kiss. I wished that, that kiss would never end. But of course there’s things called hunger and thirst, and Chap Stick. And of course I couldn’t forget about my high-pitched-barking Pomeranian that was jumping on my leg. Then when I ignored her for over a minute. She went and bugged Alek.

“Ok, ok.” I finally gave in to the pretty pooch. “What do you want?” it started walking away, and stopped to look back when I didn’t follow. Marshmellow barked and we decided to finally give in.

We followed her into the backyard, and to the side of the house where mom’s garden was. And mom was there.

She was lying on her back, surrounded and covered with pieces of glass, and reeked of garbage.

I ran over to her and bent over to check her out. Alek wasn’t far behind. She was starting to sit up, but I was pretty sure she was clueless.

Then out of no where she started laughing. I swear she almost laughed herself to death she was laughing so hard. But then Alek quietly joined her.

“What? What’s going on!” I was more scared then clueless or mad. And they just wouldn’t stop laughing.

“Happy. Trick day!” laugh, laugh, laugh. Gasp. Laugh, laugh. Then she started laughing harder, like saying our family’s made up holiday name, would make it funnier.

Sometimes, I didn’t even understand her. Thankfully, most of the time Alek agreed with me. We quietly walked to the front lawn and leaned against the hood of his car. Then we started cracking up. To this day I still don’t know why, but whatever we where laughing at, it was pretty funny.

We got into Alek’s old Ford sports car, and just drove for hours. We drove, and talked. And we talked about everything, from the reason that some apples are sour and some are sweet, to the crazy, misunderstand able dreams I had when I was in a coma. Oh, and who could forget the topic of how fun school is.

We where having such a blast laughing our vocal chords out and crying tears of mixed feelings, that it really bummed the mood when I looked at the clock and it said 7:34. Now that I thought of it, I was getting a bit hungry. As I looked out my window to see how dark it was, I finally realized we’d been driving around my neighborhood for the past four hours.

“Wanna go grab something to eat?” Alek asked at though he was reading my mind.

I giggled for a brief second then looked back up at him. “Yeah, I was just thinking the same thing.”

So we drove to Applebee’s and shared the cheese-filled meatballs with pasta, as usual. It was a perfect day. Until a certain car alarm went off.

CHAPTER 25

Everyone in the restaurant looked outside to see a black figure beating up Alek’s sports car. Everyone gasped and screamed, but realized that, that might make the burglar person come and get them, so they shut up. All the waiters locked the doors and windows, put the drapes over the windows, and turned off all the lights. As though they’d already shut down for the night. It really resembled a school lockdown.

‘Oh great.’ I thought. ‘We’re on lockdown in Applebee’s while some Jack Ass is beating up Alek’s expensive car.’ But I could only think that for a second, because Alek and I took out our phones and called 911 as soon as the drapes where shut, along with everyone else in the packed restaurant.

Then we all heard a big pile of glass shatter to the ground, and knew he was now breaking into the expensive car. I just sat there, next to Alek. And I felt helpless because I couldn’t do anything.

But then Alek started crying. It wasn’t easy to tell he was. The only way I knew was because tears started dripping down his cheeks. Other then that, h looked fine.

I made him face me, and hugged him. “What’s wrong?” I asked although I knew he spent thousands of dollars on his car.

“There, was… something in the car.” He whispered slowly into my ear. “It was for you.” He said after a long pause.

“Oh.” I didn’t know what else to say.

“It was my mom’s white pearl earrings. I thought you could use them for something old or borrowed for our wedding. I was gonna show them to you after dinner.

Now it was positive he was crying. He always did when he was talking about his mom.

But just then we heard sirens and the burglar screamed. We later found out that it was because when he was trying go get out of the car through the window, he tripped and fell face first into the pile of glass on the hard pavement from the window.

The officer handed Alek back a tiny blue box. “This was in the burglar’s hat. You’re lucky we got here when we did. He also had your self defense pocket knife, car battery, and antique trumpet.” He smiled politely as he handed Alek back his belongings.

“Thank you officer.”

“And thank State Farm for car insurance.” I whispered as the cop walked back to his car.

We where on a beach in Maui. Just sitting there, watching the sun set. Not a cloud in the sky.

A huge dark cloud suddenly appeared within seconds, and a huge vulture came flying at high speed at us.

I screamed louder then life, but Alek just smiled like the bird was the most beautiful thing he’d ever seen.

It swooped down and grabbed Alek on his shoulders and carried him off into forever. I ran. I ran and ran faster than any superhero in any comic book. Eventually I caught up with them and jumped hundreds of feet onto the birds back. Out of no where it turned into stone. And sleek was stuck under its sharp, cement claws. Threatening to come back to life at any given moment.

Alek started eating self- he was made of realistic colored Jell-O! All that was let was his mouth, but then he licked that away too.

“Are you awake?” I smiled at him as he opened his eyes and sat up.

“I think so.” Alek said without humor. ‘Wait, we are in my room. How did she…?’ he thought.

“Happy birthday!” I smiled and gave him a bear hug. How could he forget his birthday? ‘Lol.’ I thought. I handed him a huge envelope I painted blue. Inside it was a list of 18 (times ten!) of good things about him in alphabetical order!

Things like angel, and blessing. Cute and delightful. It’s because he is those things.

He read them all and smiled at me. “Right back at you.” And he kissed me for an eternity. :)

CHAPTER 26

“Are you sure about this?” I asked Alek. I was so nervous, there were at least a million butterflies in my stomach.

“If you don’t want to, we don’t hav-“ he said concerned about my nervousness.

“No, no, no.” I interrupted. “It’s just, you know. I’m kinda scared of needles.” I said, half laughing as some people do when they’re nervous.

“Oh yeah. Are you sure?” he said holding my hand.

“Yes.” Pause. “Yes I’m absolutely sure.” I really wasn’t.

“Ok. Paul, we’re ready.” He called to his older brother.

“K. do you guys have a sketch of what you want?” he had a very distinctive, deep voice. Although he wasn’t very buff, and especially not near as buff as his younger brother Alek.

“Yup.” Alek said handing him two sheets of scrap paper.

“Ok. Here you go Madykel.” He said and took his tattoo machine, and made me tilt my head back.

I squeezed Alek’s hand, and I could see it was turning red. I felt sorry, but I knew that if I loosened my grip even a little bit, I would die.

It seemed like an eternity before he was done. Really it was only about fifteen minutes. Man I am such a wimp.

“Ok, you’re done.” He said at last.

I shot up out of the comfy leather chair in their living room, afraid he might want to make ‘just one more finishing touch.’

He chuckled, “What a keeper Alek.” He laughed and Alek punched his arm.

Then I knew Alek couldn’t really feel the needle-like thing, but I still felt bad for him. But his seemed to go a lot faster then mine.

We got the same tattoo, only the opposite.

Mine said: I LOVE ALEK

And it was encircled by a fancy heart. While his said : I LOVE MADYKEL

And it was encircled by the same fancy heart. I got mine right below my collar bone. Not too high, not too low. While he got his on the right side of his muscular chest.

He smiled at me. “Perfect.” And he gave me a hug.

Later we went into the backyard to the pool and went swimming.

We ran from the house, holding hands, and jumped into the pool smiling. SPLASH! We swam back to the surface and laughed.

I reached for his tattoo and smiled. I ran my fingers over the gorgeous design and wondered ‘How did I get so lucky?’ then I swam closer and put my hands on his shoulders.

He looked down at me and leaned in. I wrapped my legs around his torso, and then we where the same height while we kissed, so he didn’t have to bend down, and I didn’t have to crane my neck as high as it could go. He smiled into my lips and I smiled back. He opened his mouth and our tongs met. It was the typical book-description kiss. My fingers tangled in his hair. His hands holding me up. Predictable. Especially for us, anyone would’ve known that.

I could feel my strapless bikini top slipping down, so I took my hands away from his hair, just for a second, and I fell back with a splash, my legs where the only thing holding me up, but that made it harder to get up. I was about to release my grip on his torso when he bent down and grabbed my shoulders and pulled me back up.

“You ok?” he smiled at the clumsy mishap.

I stood up and giggled while pulling up my top and talking at the same time, “Yeah.” I smiled, and looked back into his sun-green eyes

He grabbed my hand and led me out of the pool, and of course, went to the hot tub. Much more romantic then the pool.

CHAPTER 27

We sat down on opposite ends and laid back, getting used to the relaxing bubbles and steam. Oh wait, the steam was from us. Ha ha!

We gazed up at each other at the same time and smiled. We sat up more and bent over so our faces where just inches apart. He closed his eyes and I closed mine and this time the kiss didn’t end for quite a while.

It got pretty uncomfortable leaning forward for the both of us, so Alek grabbed my elbow and pulled me forward. I sat on his lap, but then he picked up my legs and spread them so they where encircling his.

I smiled and grabbed the sides of his face.

I realized my butt was up in the air and I giggled. He laughed along with me, and spread his arms out so they where laying vertically on the edge of the hot tub.

We smiled and kissed for at least two hours, just having the time of our lives.

Then we heard a car pull into the driveway. :(

It was his step mom. So I jumped back onto my side and we acted relaxed, just talking and leaning back against the wall of the tub. She’s not as ok with us making out like that as my mom was. She is obsessed with knowing that Alek won’t have a kid, that he doesn’t even want him kissing. It’s sad. :(

She walked outside and spotted us. “Oh there you are.” She smiled when she noticed we where just talking. Heck, she doesn’t even like it when me and Alek hold hands! “I was just at the mom’s club, and they said that I’m a little too protective. I’m so sorry.” She said. I could see she was studying me, looking for any sign of anything too wrong. (For her standards anyway).

“Hey, what’s that?” she said pointing to my finger. Her voice stern like she was a cop and I’d just murdered someone.

“Uh,” I paused.

Alek finished for me. “A ring.” He said proudly, smiling at me.

“What?! No you are not! No! No! No! You’re too young! Take that off this instant young lady!” she yelled at me, holding her hand out.

Alek stood up and stepped in front of me. “No.”

“Excuse me?!” his mom was obviously surprised at his remark.

“I said no. I’m eighteen, she’s eighteen. You’re not her mom. That’s my choice, not yours. Mom you gotta snap into reality that I’m not ten anymore. I’m an adult. Don’t try to convince me otherwise.” He frowned and hopped out of the hot tub, grabbing two towels, so I followed.

“Young man! You are going to listen to me and make her give me that ring! You will swear never to see her again and you are grounded for a month!” she shouted at the top of her lungs. She. Was. Mad.

“No.” he said firmly, handing me the towel, as I stood beside him feeling helpless as a baby lamb with a coyote trying to eat it.

“No?” his mother asked matter-of-factly. “Well then, if you won’t listen to me, you will not be served by me. You’re eighteen, as you said. I suppose it’s time for you to move out.” Her face was strict and cold, and you could tell she wanted Alek to run up to her and get on his knees and beg for forgiveness.

“Ok.” Alek said. “Madykel.” He motioned for me to follow him, and I did.

When we’d gotten to his room I asked “Alek, did that. Did that, really just happen?”

“Yes.” He said smiling. “I’m free. I’m 100% yours. No one in our way. Oh what a great day today is.” He smiled and grabbed a handful of boxes from his closet.

“You don’t mind that your mom, I mean step mom, just kicked you out?” I asked concerned.

“Why would I?” he smiled and grabbed his wrestling trophies and put them into a box, along with a few other nick knacks. “I mean, I’m free now. We can kiss, and hold hands, and make out without having to worry about my mom putting her nose in our business. I mean, sure we don’t get the hot tub or pool anymore. But we get to be free.” He smiled and hugged me.

“Yeah.” I smiled into his shoulder. “We’re free.”

It took us about two hours for us to pack all of his stuff, he had a huge room. (His mom was rich). Then I called my mom.

“Hey. Can you bring my pick up truck?” I asked, telling her all about Alek’s moms’ blow up and kicking him out.

“Sure. Tell him he can stay here if he wants.” She said, as always, happy to help.

I smiled into the phone, “I was hoping you’d say that.”

CHAPTER 28

It didn’t take us long to load the twenty-some boxes into my truck and Alek’s sports car. Thank goodness it had gotten out of the shop just the day before, especially because Alek’s mom canceled his insurance.

Alek and I rode in his car, while my mom drove the truck, which by the way was 99.6% filled. The last .4% was her.

“Thank you so much.” Alek said and gave me a quick kiss once we’d gotten to a red light.

“No problem. It’s awesome!” I smiled. And looked over at him.

So we decided he would stay in the guest room, now his room, in the basement. That way he’d have his own bathroom, TV room, etc;

I helped him unpack him stuff, and stumbled across a box that he’d obviously packed. It was labeled: Madykel <3

“What’s this?” I smiled grabbing the tape, as though asking ‘Can I open it?’

“Mm, sure. Why not.” He smiled and walked up behind me to look over my shoulder.

I untapped it carefully and opened the flaps. It was true. It was a box, well, some of it anyway, about me.

I closed my eyes and reached my hand in the box to see what I’d grab. It was a scrapbook. The first picture was the first one he’d taken when we’d started dating. Me with frosting he’d dabbed on my nose on my birthday and him putting his two fingers behind my head ‘Turn around and kiss me.’

I smiled at the memory from when we where twelve. ‘Man that was six years ago!’ I thought.

I turned around and kissed him, then flipped through the rest of the book quickly. Only stopping to stare at last years’ prom picture.

Then I grabbed a small box labeled ‘wedding’

He quickly grabbed it out of my hand and put that in one of his dresser drawers. He embarrasly grinned and put his hands in his pockets.

“What?” I asked smiling.

“Nothing.” He grinned and I instantly knew what was in the box.

I blushed and turned back to the bigger box. All that was left was the stone we’d found that was shaped like a heart, and had carved our initials into it.

I put the rock and book back into the box and turned around to face him.

“Oh what fun that’ll be.” I smiled into his hazel eyes.

“What’ll be?” he asked, looking puzzled.

Ha ha, now I was just trying to make him nervous. “Our wedding.” My smile got bigger as I reminded him of the box.

He blushed and looked at his shoes. Then he looked back up at me. “Yeah.” He smiled, now getting revenge by trying to make me nervous.

Then I blushed. But I stayed smiling at him the whole time. “Oh how the box is killing me right now.” He teased, trying to fulfill his revenge 100%.

And he succeeded. I was blushing my face off it was so red.

He grabbed a strand of hair hanging in my eyes and gently tucked it behind my ear. I smiled and stood on my toes, getting ready for a kiss, but he stepped backwards and smiled.

“Come and get me!” he screamed like a child playing tag, and ran up the stairs.

I sprinted after him and ran all the way to the elementary school. When we’d gotten to the soft-grassed-soccer field, he pretended to trip and fall. He rolled over onto his back and smiled at me sprinting at him. I pretended to trip in the same place he had and landed next to him.

He rolled over and “accidentally” landed on top of me. He smiled down to me and kissed me. I kissed him back and pushed him over, taking me with him, so I was now on top of him. He rolled to his side and faced me once we’d stopped kissing. I turned and faced him too, lying on my side.

We just laid there, staring into each others’ eyes. Then he broke the chain of our staring by getting up. I got up too and for the first time in probably an hour noticed it was already dark. “What time is it?” I asked as he looked at his phone.

“Uh, almost seven. Lol, I just realized that I’m hungry.” He chuckled patting his six pack.

“Yeah.” I said, and we walked hand-in-hand back to the house to see none other then his moms’ car sitting in the driveway. And our moms standing on the front porch yelling at each other.

“Crap!” Alek and I whispered at the same time.

CHAPTER 29

We ran through the neighbors’ yards and hopped the fences to get to our backyard. Once we’d hopped the fence to our yard I pulled out my key to the backdoor.

Alek jerked open the front door and I yanked my mom inside. He went out to the porch and shut the door behind him.

“What the heck are you doing?!” he yelled

“You need to come home! I don’t you living with these animals. You need to live somewhere safe. Come home honey! They’re gonna turn you into one of them! You-“ she yelled, but he cut her off.

“Shut up! No. I’m staying here. These people are sane. You don’t listen to me and what I want. I’m more like these people than I am like you. Go home and leave us alone.”

“You don’t know what you want. You’re confused. They hypnotized you with their craziness.”

“Stop talking about them like that. They are my family. They’re more family to me then you are! Talk all the crap you want about me, but leave them out of it. This is my choice, not yours. Not theirs. And besides, you kicked me out. Mom, listen to me! I don’t want to go back to being locked up like an animal and not being able to do anything! You’re not even my mom!”

I started crying. ‘It’s all because of me that this is happening! I’m tearing a family apart! I need to stop this.’

Just then he came in and slammed the door in his mom’s face.

We all went into the basement into the family room. Mom sat on the chair and Alek and I sat on the couch. Him holding me in his arms, and trying to tell me that it wasn’t my fault. I finally gave up and believed him, but he continued to rub my back.

Finally after about fifteen minutes his step mom gave up and stopped yelling and banging on the door. When we heard her car pull out of the driveway we walked up the stairs from the basement where we couldn’t hear the ruckus.

I rubbed my eyes and walked to the barstools in the kitchen and sat down, while Alek followed me. I turned to the empty counter, and began tracing the cracks in the granite tile with my finger.

“I’m so sorry.” Alek said looking at the ground.

“For what? You didn’t do anything. It was all my fault.” I could feel my green eyes well up, and I turned away so he wouldn’t see me cry.

He started rubbing my back, and tried to gently pull me to face him. “It’s not your fault at all. I fell in love with the most wonderful girl in the entire world. And my mom just can’t get over the fact that I’m growing up, and she wants me to go back to being her little boy. She needs a reality check.

You,” he said standing in front of me now, “You are the love of my life. No one, not even my mom can convince me otherwise. You mean so much more to me then you think. I love you with all my heart, and you are really the only thing I care about.”

Just then Marshmellow started pawing at his shoes, lightening the mood like all puppies do. Alek and I smiled at the same time. “And of course you too Marshmellow.” He said picking up the pooch and petting her.

I petted her along with him and smiled. “I guess you’re right. I mean you usually are.” I said reminding myself of his perfect grades; and friends; and to him, girlfriend, oh wait no, fiancé too.

“See.” He said playfully and put his elbow on my shoulder, acting as though it where an arm rest.

“Ha ha, yeah. I don’t think I’ve mentioned this in a while, but I love you.” I smiled and laid my right hand on his cheek.

“I love you too.” he said giving me a short, but affectionate kiss.

“And soon, it will be 100%, absolutely, forever.” I smiled, looking at the beautiful ring.

“But not soon enough.” He smiled and kissed me again.

CHAPTER 30

So life was pretty good. We where pretty much done with Aleks’ mom drama. For now anyway. Alek and I spent our days hanging out the whole day.

We mostly hang out at the towns’ pool, splashing each other to death and laughing our hearts out. And going in the hot tub there and making out. And screaming while going down the 100 feet tall drop slide together. And the rest of the time we’re in one of our’ rooms, hanging out. Talking about the few seconds that the other isn’t there, and of course making out. When we weren’t at school of course.

And then there was always prom tonight. And of course, we went

I had a long light blue, silk, strapless ball gown with matching blue flats. Giant dark blue diamond dangly earrings, with dark blue eyeliner, fading to a white. And I know this sounds crazy, but I had light blue lipstick. My hair was pulled up into a fancy bun on the top of my head, with just a blue extension hanging down. Blue nails, and a green and silver charm bracelet Alek had made for me. I had blue sparkles on my skin and on my fancy hair, and just a tint of blush. Very complicated, and I had to make sure I didn’t forget one detail.

Alek wore white tuxedo pants, and jacket. A silky, light blue tie and pocket handkerchief. White leather shoes, and a blue Mohawk.

Ha, ha. If you didn’t already notice, we absolutely love blue.

We danced and laughed, and I tripped over my two-left-feet at least a million times.

The theme was ‘Shooting Stars.’ I know, I know. Kindof lame but we didn’t choose the name. So there was of course star-shaped balloons, ice cubes, snacks, and I know it’s weird, but disco balls.

While Alek was getting punch, I noticed Tina, my best friend that I haven’t talked to in such a long time, we’ve been so busy with our boyfriends that neither of us have really had the time.

She was wearing a black, one-strap mini dress, with four-inch black Prada heels. She died her hair charcoal black, and wore black lipstick, eyeliner, eye shadow, nail polish, and huge round black stud earrings. (She’s Goth.)

“Hey Tina!” I yelled over the music as I approached her.

“Hey Madykel! Hows it goin with Alek?” she said bopping her head to the hard-rock music.

“Good.” I held out my hand for her to admire my ring.

“Wow. That’s awesome! I always knew you two’d end up together. The perfect couple. Have you…” she said it more like a question, rather then a trail-off.

“No. Not yet. Lol, but he’s prepared.” I giggled.

“Aww. You two really are the perfect couple. There’s no pressure or anything. Just absolute true love.” She smiled, looking at our two boyfriends chatting at the snack table.

“Yeah. How’s it goin with Hunter?” Hunter was the exact opposite of Goth. Total neon and everything colorful and artsy.

“Good. Home plate!” she smiled at him. “We’re awesome. Lately it’s like I’m alive. I don’t feel as, Goth. I feel happier. It’s kind of weird.” She said pulling down the bottom of her dress.

“Cool. Yeah I’m so ready for the wedding. I don’t know when it is, but you’re definitely my maid of honor.”

“Cool.” She flashed her pearly whites. “Will I have to wear a bright color?” she groaned.

“How bout my brides-maids will wear dark blue.” I said compromising.

“Sure. Awesome. Well, I better get back to Hunter. See you soon.” She smiled and walked away.

Just then Alek came back. “Hey.” He said handing me a glass of punch. “So hows it goin with Tina and Hunter?”

“Lol, didn’t Hunter tell you?”

“Uh, yeah. But really all he said was that their relationship was very colorful. Whatever that means.” He said clueless.

“The box.” I said before taking a sip of the cold fruity drink.

“Aah.” He said looking straight at me.

Then a slow dance came upon the booming speakers. “May I?” Alek asked holding out his hand after he set down his punch.

“Of course.” I smiled and put my hands on his shoulder. He put his hands on my hips and we swayed side to side, standing with really no space between us. And it felt like we where the only people in the school.

CHAPTER 31

So prom was really fun. Afterwards we met Tina and Hunter at the sushi restaurant near the school. No surprise it was packed, almost everyone from school was there.

It was pretty funny because one of the popular, snotty girls spilled soy sauce all over her hundred-thousand-dollar dress, and her Gucci purse. She screamed at the top of her lungs and blamed it on her soccer snob boyfriend for ‘making her’ spill the sauce.

I think we just had a sense that we needed to do something crazy for prom night, so we got Tina and Hunter to come with us and break into Alek’s backyard so we could go swimming.

Alek broke into the mud room in the basement and took two swim trunks, and two of his little sisters’ bikinis. (She is very tall for her age (12))

So we changed and hopped into the freezing water. Tina and I squealed and Alek and Hunter just laughed.

At the exact same time Alek and Hunter came up behind Tina and me and they scared the heck out of us. Hunter picked her up and swam her to shallower water, and Alek did our usual, putting his arms behind my back and us making out.

It was a pretty fun night. And of course who wouldn’t want to make out in the hot tub? None of us! So Alek opened the top and we all slid inside.

This time our’ making out was symmetrical. The guys where sitting on the benches in the boiling water, while Tina and I sat in their laps. It was all perfect until a certain bedroom light came on.

We scrambled to get out of the hot tub and ran to the mud room to gather our gowns and tuxes. We ran, soaking wet while still wearing the borrowed swim suits and jumped behind a huge bush

His mom came outside with a huge flash light and scanned the entire backyard. When she didn’t find anything she slugged back inside and grumbled something like: “Stupid raccoons.”

We laughed and changed back into our formal clothes, returned the swim suits, and ran back to the elementary school. We said goodnight to Tina and Hunter and went our different ways.

We went back to our house to my mom greeting us outside. “Hey. How was prom?” she asked taking a bite of Chinese take-out.

“Good.” We smiled at each other and he squeezed my hand. “Fun.” I smiled at my mom.

“What did you guys do after wards?” she took another bite.

Alek smiled at my mom. “We went with Hunter and Tina to the Sushi restaurant by the school.” Then he laughed. “Then we broke into my backyard with them and swam in the pool and hung out in the hot tub.” He laughed and flicked my wet, pulled-back hair.

“Well that sounds like fun. You didn’t get caught did you?”

“Nope. We almost did but we jumped behind a bush.” I said giggling at the image of his moms’ messed up hair and groggy face.

“Good. Normally I would care about you guys’ trespassing, but since she blew up in my face and you used to live there,” she looked at Alek, “I don’t mind.”

“Cool.” We said simultaneously and walked into the house hand-in-hand.

We stayed up until two in the morning, laughing and hanging out in his basement room. Finally my eyes just couldn’t stay open for another second, and I flopped down on his bed. I heard him sigh and grab a blanket out of the closet. He laid down on the floor and was about as tired as I was.

“You don’t have to lay on the floor.” I murmured, smiling into the darkness.

I heard him chuckle and get up. I scooted over so I was leaning against the wall and he laid down beside me. “Night.” He gave me a kiss and I dozed off.

CHAPTER 32 part A

“The year has gone by so fast.” I smiled when I was sitting on my green moon chair. School ended in just two weeks! We weren’t really learning anything in school. Just relaxing and taking notes, and getting lectures on how the trouble-makers aren’t going to do very good in college. Life was good.

“Almost too fast.” He smiled, sitting on my bed and leaning against the wall.

“But not soon enough.” I smiled looking at my ring.

“True. Very true.” He chuckled and I laughed along with him.

“So when should the wedding be?” I looked over at my desk filled with my school stuff that I didn’t need anymore, and really needed to go through.

“I don’t know. Ha, should it be in a church, forest, Vegas?” he smiled grinned and laughed.

“Hmm, I’m thinking the Vegas option.” I laughed along with him.

I knew exactly what I wanted my dress to look like. It would be a knee-length, tight white dress that detailed my curves. White, three-inch Prada heels covered in white sparkles; and a tight, white anklet with a white flower on the end. My moms’ old, long train with a short veil. His moms’ white pearl earrings, a blue chocker necklace, and bright pink lipstick and eyeliner.

Something new: the dress.

Something old: his moms’ pearl earrings.

Something blue: the chocker necklace.

Something borrowed: my moms’ old, long train and short veil.

Perfection.

And he was planning to wear the traditional black tuxedo, only with a dark blue tie; and matching diamond-shaped cuff ornaments. And the finishing touch, black leather shoes.

A month later:

“So we’re having the wedding in the Life Spring church, right?” I asked as I was on my laptop, writing the rough draft for the invitations.

“Well isn’t that where we scheduled it?” he joked.

“Oh yeah. I’m such a blonde.” I laughed and typed the location in the fancy font: Monotype Corsiva.

“So what time?”

“Uh, one pm to six-thirty.” He said matter-of-factly.

“K.” I typed it down in my fast speed, and of course messed up. I laughed at my silly mistake and messed up again!

“Oh Madykel. What am I going to do with you?” he chuckled, texting someone.

“I don’t know.” I said playfully, twirling my hair in my fingers’.

“Ha, ha.”

“Yup.” I said focusing on the screen.

It was actually pretty good for a rough draft.

CHAPTER 33

So obviously we had a small guest list: 63. So of course we where ecstatic when we found out that everyone could come! Except for Aleks’ mom of course.

I was so excited, the wedding was just a week away, and I couldn’t ever sit still. I was the happiest and most excited person in the world! I also couldn’t stop talking about it, and I’m pretty sure I annoyed Alek so much that he probably was about to rip his blonde hair out of his scalp. Literally every ten or so minutes I brought up the subject of the wedding.

I couldn’t get to sleep until about one every night. And then I slept until ten, or eleven; and I would’ve slept longer, except Alek woke me up every morning whenever he was too bored. I dreamed about the wedding every night and made Alek drive me to the church like five times a day, making sure that it wasn’t ruined and no one had broken into the church and stolen anything. And to make sure that at all times everything was in its exact spot.

I made sure my suitcase was packed at least three times a day, checking every little square inch of the interior and for some reason the exterior too.

The first day Alek just laughed and laughed every time I went through things and made me drive him places. But after then, he just got irritated with me.

Until the night before, when I was the most paranoid person alive! I didn’t want to go home at all. I rearranged the centerpieces a million times; the positioning of the flowers a trillion. I couldn’t decide which doors I wanted the guests to come in, so Alek suggested the two front doors. I instantly agreed because I knew if I didn’t it would take me another hour to decide if I didn’t.

I absolutely didn’t want to leave. It was one in the morning when he made us leave. He literally had to pick me up and drag me out the door. He had to buckle me up and lock the door so it wouldn’t unlock unless from the outside, and swore everything would be fine. I was still gritty, but I settled down enough not to go insane.

He knew I was so nervous, that he laid in my bed next to me when we went to sleep. And then I kept him up until about two worrying about every little thing that could go wrong; up until he just couldn’t keep his eyes open for even one second longer. Then I stopped freaking out and finally settled down and fell asleep.

I dreamt all night long.

My dog walked me down the isle, and the isle seemed like three feet long.

I was dressed like a princess. A dark pink long, puffy gown, with pointy heels that I couldn’t even walk straight in. a huge gold crown on the top of my head, covered in red, purple, pink, and yellow gems. I was literally a princess!!!

I was on the top, standing in front of prince charming, Cinderella’s prince to be exact. He was a cartoon, with the shoulder strings, and the wavy, dark brown hair.

My grandpa was to the side of us, saying, “You are now married.”

I kissed prince charming and flower petals started raining down from the sky.

It was any five-year-olds’ dream wedding. Very… sweet.

Then that dream ended.

I was floating in the sky, well more like flying. I had huge, white, feathery wings. I was wearing my PJ bottoms and a tank top. With my old, neon green slippers, and my hair pulled back into a simple pony tail.

Then I saw Cupid, sitting on a pretty-pink cloud, smiling at me. I waved, and you guessed it, he shot his arrow at my butt.

I was so happy, but not in love happy. Like, as though I was voted Miss World, or Miss USA. Amazing.

But then I fell out of the sky, the arrow had ripped a hole in my wings. But I didn’t scream, I laughed like “Is this supposed to be scary?”

I landed on a huge, fluffy pillow, and smiled at the sun, smiling down at me. The world was animated. A cat was reading a newspaper, there where music symbols coming out of the radio station. The sun was smiling at me. A giant Teddy Bear was a cop arresting a criminal dressed in head to toe black, like in the movies. Tina was making out with her dream guy; a vampire.

But the weirdest part of it all, was that it seemed normal. I wasn’t creaped out or anything.

Then that dream ended.

And that was the end of my dreams for the night. That I remember anyway, because I seem to remember a turtle somewhere in there. It was strange.

CHAPTER 34

Alek woke me up at about ten-thirty, by kissing me.

“Huh?” I wasn’t sure if I was still dreaming, or if I was back to reality.”

“You might want to wake up now. Don’t you need to shower, and take your sweet time,” laugh, “Getting ready at the bridal store?” he smiled at me when I stood up and walked for my door.

“Yeah. Uh, what about you?” I asked, still groggy and half-asleep.

“Uh, I already showered, and I’m getting ready at the church. You’re supposed to meet your brides maids’ at the bridal store in forty-five minutes.” He smiled and led me to the towels, I was so confused.

“Oh yeah.” I grabbed a towel and walked toward the bathroom.

“See you at the alter.” He smiled, giving me a hug.

“I’ll be the one in white.” I smiled, using the common, cheesy catch phrase a lot of people use.

He chuckled and walked out the front door.

I jumped into my truck and raced to the bridal shop. And of course my maids’ where already there.

Come on! They shouted and I ran to the make-up counter. The make-up artist took her time, making sure she didn’t miss a single detail of making my face perfect. That alone took about an hour.

Then I walked to the changing room and the dresser carefully slipped me into my tight dress; careful not to smear my make-up, or getting it on the beautiful dress.

Thankfully the church was just down the street from the store, so it didn’t take long for us to get there.

Tina drove us all in her nice car, with the dresser and the make-up artist sitting next to me. They made Tina put towels on everything surrounding me, the seat, back rest, door, and chair in front of me; making sure I wouldn’t get even one little micro-crumb or blotch on the beautiful dress.

They helped me carefully out of the car, but put a black, long coat that covered my whole body but my ankles down, just in case Alek just happened to look out of his window or be walking down the hallway and see me.

The make-up artist carried my shoes and we walked inside. We practically ran through the church, careful not to tear the dress, and up the stairs to the room that I would get 100% ready in.

I waited up there, just talking to my brides maids’, and making sure everything was perfect. All of their dresses where rolled out numerous times with a lint roller, same as mine. Their shoes where taken off so they wouldn’t get sore feet.

The room had a secret passage way to the balcony, so I snuck out and peaked down at Alek and the guests. Alek was bouncing up and down, smiling; he was obviously nervous, and when I realized that, I became nervous. I ran back to the room and hugged Tina.

“Is this what I should do? Am I ready for this? I mean, marriage?” I was stuttering and bug-eyed, and thinking ‘Why would I even ask something like that? I’m surely going crazy.’

Tina grabbed me by my shoulders and stared at me. “Of course you are! Stop thinking like that! You love him, and you are so lucky.” She laughed, “And this is a very expensive wedding, so if you back down that’s a lot of money, all for nothing.” she smiled, trying to lighten the mood.

“You’re right.” The sane side of me said out loud. While the small, insane part of me said ‘What the heck are you doing!’

I smiled to convince her I was 100% sane and she let go of my shoulders and changed it into a hug. “Go get ‘em.” She smiled, and walked down the stairs, to wait for me.

CHAPTER 35

I slowly stepped down the stairs, carrying my shoes and, my sanity, in my hand.

The make-up artist ran down the hall to another entrance door to the chapel and cued the organ to start.

I quickly went through everything silently in my head.

My knee-length, tight white dress detailed my curves perfectly and had no blotches or lint. My white, sparkle covered three inch Prada heels where comfortable and fitting. My white anklet with flower was facing the right way. My little cousin, Lia, was holding my train, and my short veil was covering my face, just perfect enough. His moms’ pearl earrings where on, and not covered because my long bangs where pulled to the back of my head, and my chocker necklace wasn’t chocking me. I looked into the mirror hanging on the near by wall, and made sure my make up wasn’t smeared. Perfection.

I heard the music and my brides maids’, with Tina at the lead, walked to the beat down the aisle.

Since I really didn’t want my dad to walk me down the aisle, I got my best guy friend, Dausan Lacy, to walk me down. He put his arm in mine and led me through the double-doors.

I felt sixty-two pairs of eyes on me as I walked down the twenty foot long, white carpeted aisle. I made sure to count my steps exactly to the beat. 1…2…3, 4. 1…2…3, 4. It seemed like the organ wouldn’t go fast enough, it felt like an eternity by the time Dausan led me up the four steps to where Alek and my pastor was awaiting me. He let go of my arm, and walked to his second-row seat.

I turned to my audience and quietly sighed, ‘This is my life.’ I looked at Alek. ‘And this is my future.’ I smiled, wishing he could hear my silent thoughts.

He was dressed perfectly in his fitting, traditional black tuxedo. And had his dark blue tie, and matching diamond shaped cuff ornaments on with perfection. And his black leather shoes where polished and shiny.

I looked at Alek and smiled. He smiled back as my priest cut off the organ.

CHAPTER 36

“Family and friends. We are gathered here on this beautiful, beautiful day; to join these two wonderful young persons’, Madykel Hayla, and Alek Spencer, in marriage.”

(We planned to have a short, short ceremony, and a long reception.)

“They have chosen to say their own vows.” He said and stepped back a foot.

“Madykel, I’ve known you since I was eleven, sixth grade. We where friends from the start.” He smiled then laughed. “This is the saddest wedding vow ever. One day my friend Luke Bergman dared me to kiss you after school, and I did. I thought he was going to laugh, but I didn’t care because I secretly liked you. When we kissed, instantly sparks flew, and we’ve been going out ever since. And I’m ready for the next step. I love you more then I love anything else in the entire world.”

“Do you, Alek Spencer, take this wonderful woman to be your lawfully wedded wife?”

“I do.” He smiled at me, as we held hands.

I smiled hugely through my veil. “Alek, you are the absolute love of my life, and I want to be with you forever. I never want to leave your side, and I never want us to be apart, for even a second. The next step in our relationship is the most important, and I’m ready for that commitment.”

“Do you, Madykel Hayla, take this wonderful young man to be your lawfully wedded husband?”

“I do.” I had to strain myself from screaming it. I smiled the hugest smile ever.

“You may now kiss the bride.” He smiled at Alek.

He gently lifted the short veil above my head and placed it on top. He gently put his right hand on my left cheek and smiled. He leaned in and gave me a gentle, but passionate kiss.

I wished that kiss would’ve lasted forever, but sadly, it ended all too soon. He pulled back and we smiled simultaneously.

Our family and friends stood up and clapped, and we lead the way out of the chapel into the reception area.

It was beautifully decorated. The tables covered in white, silk tablecloths with dark blue trimmings, a vase on each table with four white roses, and a dark blue rose in the middle. There where six white chairs at each table. A white plastic plate with a fork on one side, and a knife on the other. And a small laminated card on top of the plate that said a persons’ name.

There was a big room connecting to the reception room, where the few kids would hang out and play and run around without knocking over something expensive.

On the far wall where there weren’t any round tables or the dance floor, there was a row of rectangular tables with food. One end was the drinks, one was small snacks, and of course in the middle was the cake. And surrounding that was a lot of plates, just begging for us to put some cake on them.

The DJ started playing soft music, well, soft for our tastes anyway: Marry the Night by Lady Gaga.

We sat at the huge table that fit ten instead of six, in the very center of the room; along with Tina, Hunter, Alek’s brother Paul, my mom, Corrina Koenig- second BFF, Lerin Workman- second BFF also, Hunter Jonsen, and Luke Bergman, who just so happened to be dating Lerin and Corrina, and where Aleks’ best friends.

By then my personal dresser had taken my veil and put it back in her car in a safe box; along with my expensive shoes, and had replaced them with cute flats with a bow at the toe.

I escaped to the bathroom with my Gucci make-up bag to fix my make-up while Alek was talking to Paul and Luke.

I opened my bag and dumped the make-up on the counter. First I grabbed my light, light pink eyeliner and did under my eye, then grabbed my dark eyeliner and did above my eye. I grabbed my pink, of many shades, eye shadow and fixed it so it would fade from dark pink (eyelid) to a white (below my brow). Then I lightly touched up my lips with some lip liner and lipstick. A light hint of blush, and some cotton candy perfume. I smiled at my reflection in the mirror.

“This is it.” I murmured to myself. “I’m now officially Madykel Gene Spencer. And may I say that today I am especially beautiful.” I said louder, not wanting to look away from the impossible reflection of me.

CHAPER 37

I slowly made my way through the tables of guests, waving hello and thanking them for coming; and listening to them say how very much I’ve grown since I was a little girl, and congratulations!

By the time I’d made it back to our table, Alek looked bored, not knowing what to talk about to his brother and best friend. He smiled when he saw me walking back to him, and walked towards me; and gave me a long, settling kiss. You could tell this was one of the happiest days of his life. You could especially in his eyes as they sparkled, dumbfounded by what he said, “My extravagant beauty.” He smiled and pulled away, “I love you sooo much. This is the absolute best day of my existence, so far.” He grinned and grabbed my hand.

He led me to the snack table. “Time to cut the cake.” I smiled through my glow-in-the-dark white teeth. This was what I was most nervous about. I just knew I’d make a mistake and cut the cake wrong or dump it on the floor. But apparently that didn’t matter.

I actually cut a pretty neat piece, and thankfully I didn’t dump it on the floor with my clumsiness/blondness. He cut a perfect piece, as expected. And of course, the tradition lived on through us.

We fed each other the fancy white cake. It was, hilarious!

I was first. I carefully cut a neat, small piece and put it in his mouth. He, on the other hand, decided to make it funny. He picked up a blob of cake with his bare hands, and rubbed it on my face.

We burst out laughing and I smeared some over his mouth so he looked like a white-lipped clown. We each grabbed the rest of our pieces and shoved them into the others’ mouth. It was very memorable. But the evident memoribility was really when I spilled cake on my dress! It was white though, so it didn’t stain too badly. But of course my dresser had just a slight problem.

I just laughed and dabbed my face with a towel to get the frosting and cake off.

So we each grabbed an actual piece and made our way back to the big, round table.

Of course, there it was. The uninvited guest. My arch nemesis that’s been trying to steal Alek from me since seventh grade. And guess what. She was wearing white! In fact, the dress was so similar, I could’ve fit into the other, and looked almost the same. And she was sitting in my seat. On my wedding day. At the wedding. Laughing her model-like smile, and acting like it was her wedding. And she was still trying to ruin my life. The happiest day of my life was just transformed to me, exploding in front of all my family and friends.

I stormed up to her, holding Aleks’ hand. And pist off as ever.

Truth is, Alek hated her almost as much as me. “What the hell are you doing here Kayden?” Alek demanded, reading my mind, or just saying what was on his own.

“This is invite only. And I sure as hell don’t writing you an invitation, and especially don’t remember even considering it.” I added as she stood up.

“Oh, sorry bout that. I just couldn’t miss this.” She smiled a seductive smile at Alek and then frowned at me. “Clown girl marrying perfect, amazing, cool, popular, sexy,” she said, just trying to really piss me off now. “…guy on the entire universe.” She smiled and put her hands on her hips.

“Leave. Now!” Alek said in a stern voice.

“Fine.” She said, taking the long rout; that past right by the wedding cake! She “tripped” and “stumbled” into the table. Thank God she didn’t destroy the cake, like she had hoped. She got up and stormed out of the church; but right before she exited the door, Dausan ran up to her and “accidentally” tripped her. She stumbled out the door and looked back right as Dausan was locking it.

He turned around like a football player did when they made a touchdown, and smiled hugely. The guests stood up and cheered for the triumphant victory of not letting Kayden mess things up for the millionth time in the, probably past week.

CHAPTER 38

It was then time to dance.

I took a sip of my water and stood up. Alek took my hand and led me to the dance floor, smiling all the way; while I was so nervous I would embarrass myself with my two-left-feet. Fun.

The song was Rain by Bruno Mars. Sure it was an old song, but it was sweet and perfect for the moment.

“…Cause there ain’t no sunlight. If I loose you baby. There’ll be no clear sky’s if I loose you baby. Just like the clouds, my eyes will do the same. If you walk away. Every day it’ll rain. Rain! Ra-a-ain…”

I mouthed the words and looked deeply into his eyes. My hands where on his shoulders and his where on my hips, standing less then in inch away from each other. We smiled, and felt like we where the only people in the earth.

The song ended and I sighed; I didn’t trip once! Yay!

Dausan came up and spoke quietly. “May I butt-in for a moment?” he smiled.

“Sure.” Alek smiled and walked away.

Dausan grabbed my hand and we danced. One hand-in hand and my other hand on his shoulder, and his on my waist.

He smiled shyly, “Alek’s a lucky guy.”

He looked straight at me and I blushed, and looked at the floor.

“Yeah I guess.” I murmured.

“You are so much more then what you see or think. You are amazing.” He smiled and caught my eye.

“Ok. If you say so.” I joked so I wouldn’t feel so awkward.

He chuckled. “You look beautiful.” He said sweetly.

“Thank you.” I smiled.

“I don’t want to say goodbye to you.” He frowned at his shoes.

“Yeah. Well, you’ll still get to see me around. Maybe even more then it’s been for the past while. This isn’t goodbye.” I murmured. “It’s just saying… farewell for now.” I sighed and forced a smile.

I could see the pain on his face as every word came out of my mouth. It hurt just to look at it. I could feel him tense up too.

“Yeah.” He whispered to his closed eyes.

He’s liked me forever. And when I was in ninth grade, he told me he’d fallen in love with me. It was kind of late though, because I had gone out with Alek for two and a half years by then, and I didn’t just want to leave him. And I knew that it wouldn’t be easy to say goodbye to either one of them. It felt impossible, but it had to be done.

He opened his eyes and they where red, mostly from the strain of trying to hold back the tears.

I grabbed his hand and led him to the other side of the double doors that led back into the chapel. I turned to him and sighed. “I’m sorry.” I whispered just loud for him to hear.

I gave him a hug and by then he’d given up trying to hold back the tears. I could feel them lightly tapping on my back and I felt bad. His breathing got heavier. He restrained it from being too loud, but I could tell it was there.

My eyes welled up as well, and threatened to pore over.

He pulled back, realizing he was causing me pain as well. “I’m sorry.” He said louder this time. “I... think I should, go.” He gave me a short, goodbye kiss and walked outside.

I watched him leave and sat down in one of the soft chairs that gave me a view of the glass doors.

I felt another presence come into the hallway and tried to pull myself together. It was Alek.

He rubbed my back without saying a word, and that kind of helped.

I sighed and then took in a deep breath. “I’m so sorry.” I choked.

“It’s not your fault. He loves you. And I know you love him too.” He studied the pattern on the chair I was sitting on.

“I do.” I whispered. “But I love you more.” I looked up at him and smiled.

“I know.” He sighed. Let’s get your makeup fixed and get us back out there. What ‘dya say?” he smiled and I took his hand as I got up.

“Yeah.” I sighed and walked to the bathroom to fix my make-up, while Alek waited politely outside.

CHAPTER 39

So it was time for the end. Wait, that doesn’t make much sense, ah you know what I meant.

I went outside and stood below the entrance to the church.

Tina handed me a giant, white and pink bouquet of flowers. She smiled and ran back to the huge group of gritty girls waiting behind me.

I smiled and turned around. Whoosh! I tossed the bouquet about ten feet up in the air and smiled, turning around to follow where it went.

The group of women jumped and squealed, and guess who got it. Tina!

I smiled and gave her a huge hug. She held it up in the air and looked at Hunter. She ran up to him and kissed him. They pulled away smiling and I smiled at them; then at Alek

He smiled back and put his arm over my shoulder.

Then Lerin and Corrina came out heaving a huge bag of white rice. Everyone grabbed a handful and made a path for us to go in-between them.

I put my arm in Aleks’ and smiled at him. He smiled back and we walked through the crowd. I giggled as rice flew everywhere and landed in my hair and all over my dress.

I laughed and squeezed his arm as if we where on a roller coaster. He chuckled at my girly-ness and ducked down as a giant clump of snow flew at him. We laughed and started fast walking to his sports car.

He helped me in, and gently shut the door.

I looked at him when he got in and smiled. He leaned over and kissed me.
