Hannah's P.O.V.

I was sitting by the island trying to build up the courage to text Cara, but I just couldn't.  I could feel my heart drop when she ran away from me. I felt so stupid. I shouldn't have gotten that close to Cara in the elevator. I must have scared her and now she was going to avoid me again. I don't know why I kept pushing the limits with Cara. I should have known better than to invade her personal space.

I let out a sigh. This day has just been getting worse for me. Not only did I scare away my roommate, but my sister was in New York City and she wanted to see me. She was the only one in my family that supported me when I came out and I loved her for that, but I always felt like we were in a competition when we were together. She would be the one that everyone adored whether it was in school or family reunions. She also had a habit of stealing my crushes and boyfriends back when I was in the closet. I don't think I would want her to meet Cara even though I don't believe anything would happen between them. Cara didn't like people and my sister is straight.

I was debating whether I should tell Amanda about the apartment or if I should tell her to meet me somewhere else when I heard the door open.  I quickly hopped off the stool and headed toward the door. Cara was taking her shoes off and she held two Victoria Secret shopping bags in one hand.

"Hi, Cara," I said awkwardly. I slightly cringed at my voice. I felt like I was a  teenager again.

Cara looked up at me in shock. Her eyes glanced at my shoulders for a brief moment before looking away. I could feel a tiny smirk fighting its way toward my lips.  I specifically wore a burgundy colored off the shoulder top because Cara's favorite color was burgundy and she admitted that she liked shoulders and collarbones. They were one of the few things that she noticed about a person.

"Uh, Hi." Cara waved back at me before she glanced at one of the bags she was holding. "Here I got you something." She handed me one of the bags.

"Lingerie?" I took the bag and I couldn't help but smirk.  Her face turned so pink at my question and her eyes widened in horror.

"No!"  Cara quickly shook her head.

I glanced in the bag and lifted a black bra out with my pinky. "This is interesting."

Cara let out a squeak as she took the bra from my grasp and flung it across the room like a grenade.  "That's not for you," She mumbled. She handed me the other bag while I gave her back mine.

I let out a small chuckle as I took out a bunch of t-shirts from the bag. I looked at the t-shirts in confusion.

"I thought...you might need... I mean like some." She turned even redder.

"Okay?" There was about seven pair of t-shirts in the bag.  "Thank you?"

"Yeah, one for every day," Cara mumbled.

"You want me to wear t-shirts every day?"

Cara looked like a deer in headlights as she waved her hands in the air. "No...it's uhh..." She scratched the back of her neck. "I have to sleep."

She tried to make a beeline toward her room, but I stepped in front of her. She almost ran right into my chest.

"I'm just teasing you," I said.

Cara nodded, but she kept her eyes away from me.

"Thank you for the shirts, although I wouldn't mind lingerie," I teased.

Cara looked down at her feet. "Are you trying to kill me?" She mumbled.

I felt the urge to pull her into a hug, but I refrained myself.  "You look so cute when you're embarrassed."

Cara actually pouted when she heard the word cute and I couldn't help but smile.

"Today has been embarrassing enough," Cara stated. "I got measured."

"Ohhhhhh, that's why you have a bra," I said.  "I can't believe you allowed that."

"There was this Korean mom who was trying to buy some for her daughter," Cara explained. "I was the same size supposedly."

"You could have said no."

"You can't say no to an Asian mom," Cara clarified.  "It goes against the laws of filial piety."

"Did she remind you of your mom?"

Cara nodded. "Exact same bossiness."

"Aww poor you." I reached my arms out. "Do you want a hug?"

"No." Cara shook her head.

After some hesitation, Cara walked into my arms, much to my surprise and delight.

"Want no, but need yes," Cara said with a sigh.

Everything just felt so right in that moment and I didn't want it to end. "I'm sorry for scaring you earlier."

After a few moments of silence, Cara finally spoke. "It's okay to go out of your comfort level every once in a while."

She looked up at me as a small smile formed on her lips. Her lips were small and so kissable that I couldn't help but be mesmerized by them.  The moment that I wanted to last forever came to a close when Cara pulled away from me.

"Okay, I think I'm all hugged out."  Cara moved away from me and headed toward the kitchen. "Did you eat yet?"

"I had a smoothie," I said as I tried to keep myself from frowning. "How was your meeting with Jane?"

"It was... eye opening," Cara stated.  "Your phone is buzzing."

I headed over to the island and picked up my phone. "Cara, how do you feel about my sister coming over?"

"From one to ten, how clean is she?"

"Uhhh." That was a hard question. She wasn't messy, but I wasn't sure she would meet Cara's expectations. I've seen Cara re-wash a pan several times before because it wasn't clean enough for her or because the pan touched the faucet.

"Wait, don't answer." Cara placed her hand in the air. "No, one is my level of clean."

My eyebrow quirked at her answer.

"If she's like you then it's okay," Cara said quickly.

"I guess." I quickly sent Amanda the address of our apartment.  "She said she has a huge surprise to tell me."

"What kind of surprise?" Cara leaned against the island and stared at me in confusion.

"Well she moved to L.A. after college to go into acting, so maybe she got a role?"

"What if she's engaged," Cara suggested.

"Maybe, but last time I talked to her she was still single. I can't imagine her getting engaged that quickly even though she is kind of wild."

"Wild?" Cara questioned with a look of pure terror.

"Well spontaneous," I explained.

Cara crossed her arms against her chest and gave me a look that told me to rethink what I just said.

"Oh my god, maybe she is!" Amanda would do something crazy like that.

"I hope it's the first one," Cara stated. "I don't want any surprise people in the apartment."

"Not a fan of surprises?"

Cara shook her head. "I'm a writer. I like to know everything. I'm also a planner." She grabbed a bottle of water from the fridge. She took a sip of water and choked on it when her eyes landed on the island.

"Are you okay?" I ran to her side and patted her back.

"What...is... that?" She pointed to the book I had on the island.

I glanced over to the book I had on the counter. "It's Tennyson by Carly Louie. I was reading it while I had my smoothie."

Cara looked completely pale as she stared at me with shocked eyes.

"It's a good book. One of the characters reminds me of you," I said innoncently.

Cara coughed uncomfortably. "How did you find out about it?"

"I read the first book by Carly Louie before when I was in high school. I didn't know she had a second book until I saw your book shelf," I explained. "You must like her a lot."

"Uh...she's alright." Cara slowly distance herself from me.

"Hmmm.. sure," I said with a knowing smirk before the apartment buzzard sounded.

Cara eyed the buzzard and then back at me. "I'm going to stay in my room."

She made a move toward her room, but I grabbed her wrist to stop her. "Please don't go."

"But it's your sister and I'm not good at meeting new people," Cara answered.  Confliction ran in her eyes.

"I haven't seen her in years and we don't have the best relationship," I explained. "Please stay for me."

Cara took a deep breath before nodding her head.

"Thank you!" I grabbed her into a hug. I could feel her stiffen in my arms and I quickly released her. "Sorry."

"Please warn me next time," Cara whispered.

The buzz sounded again and I went to answer it. "Hello?'

"Hannah Banana, I got a huge surprise for you!" Amanda shouted through the intercom.

I grimaced at the nickname and I turned toward Cara who seemed to have the same reaction.  Please let this day be good.
