Quidditch: Slytherin Vs Hufflepuff

The next day was Quidditch. I was nervous as I placed my Quidditch gear on and Sirius was at the side of me as I went into the great hall and most Gryffindor wasn't happy with me, thinking I'm betraying Gryffindor but I sat with the Slytherin team

"This is a bad day to play Quidditch." One of them said as they saw the rain and the storm.

"That's not helping."

"How's our seeker doing? All you need to do is try and get the snitch before Diggory." Flint said and I nodded to that one and he patted my shoulder in reassurance.

After I've had little to eat due to my nerves I was going to get a school broom when..."Worth." I heard Severus and I turned and my ears twitched. "The Slytherin seeker needs a decent broom. Here." Severus said and I smiled. "It's yours officially I saw you riding it at night and I knew you needed one." Severus said and I felt the broom. "A Nimbus 2001. Just do your best today, Worth." Severus said and I smiled and nodded and with that, I ran to go play Quidditch and Severus smiled, glad to see her happy.

.....

Quidditch was hell. The clouds rumbled with lightning and thunder. A lightning strike strikes one of the Quidditch rings and the clouds bloom with icy blue lightning.

Far below, in the stands, rain lashes the sea of umbrellas. As one flies free, soaring end over end into the sky, the crowd explodes and two Quidditch squads – Slytherin in Green, Hufflepuff in canary-yellow - shoot into the air. Twin bludgers fire skyward, and the match is on.

I was rising like a rocket through the mist and my robes were snapping violently with the wind. This was dangerous for me.

As I fly, rain falling like needles before me and it hurt to move on my broom but I pushed through, every dark cloud concealing potential danger. Beaters crisscross my path. A bludger whizzes past me and then a second rockets directly at me.

I sensed this and ducked and watched where the bludger went and it shatters a broom of a Hufflepuff Beater. The Beater goes into a wild spiral, vanishes in the mist.

In the stands

Draco squints upward, the players little more than streaking blurs from his vantage. Ka-ssst! A stitch of lightning strikes the tail of Marcus Flints broom. As it bursts into flames, he plummets to the pitch.

Draco looks down at his own hand. In the highly-charged air, the hair above his knuckles rises. In the sky, I fly fearlessly, searching for the Snitch as Bludgers pierce the clouds above me and chasers flit in and out of view far below.

Suddenly, in the stands opposite, a black umbrella flies from the hand of a Ravenclaw girl. For a moment, it sails wondrously through the heavy air, a Magritte dream, then - whoop! Whoop! Whoop! - abruptly picks up speed, rotating like a hatchet. I heard something and duck just in time and I turn and watch it disappearinto a bank of clouds. Then something glimmers: the Snitch.

I knew it was the snitch as I instantly jet off closing fast on the tiny, glimmering ball, chasing if through one cloud... then another... and another... until... I break into a clear patch of sky... only to find the Snitch is gone. I was angry as I whip the Nimbus 2001 back around, searching the horizon frantically, when I spy something:

In the stadium's highest tower, something enormous flickers briefly in the clouds then is obscured by a veil of mist.

I turned away. In the distance, the stray umbrella spins into view, harpoons a player. My ears shift. The snitch shimmers like a firefly in the dark underbelly of a cloud. I begin to go after it...when the veil of mist shrouding the high tower shifts and - for one brief moment - a great dog is revealed. As this mist closes, I frown sensing something and then I jet away. I didn't want to be there for some reason. It also kept changing and I was getting confused with only my ears to rely on and not my sight.

As I pelt after the Snitch, the crowd rises to their feet, roaring. Draco grins over the binoculars, watching Worth shred the mist as she urges her broom on and Neville with Hermione was there as well watching with smiles.

"Faster! Come on!" I muttered I knew the broom didn't work like that but I needed to pick up speed.

The trace of a smile forms on my face when I hear the snitch but my ears flicked and I paled when I picked up something I didn't want to.

I grab the snitch as thin glaze of ice clouds my glasses as I placed the snitch in my pocket for safe keeping. I wipe at my glasses then flinch: blood trickles down my cheek. The rain is turning to needles. Needles of ice. I glance at the handle of my broomstick. The water slicing through the grain is freezing. Vapour streams from my mouth and nose.

I then heard something pass on my right and then I turn and something then passed on my left and I didn't like this but I looked down. The layers of mist are parting below. Lightening strikes. Reveals: an army of silhouettes drifting onto the pitch. A vast legion of them...Dementors.

A distant whistle weaves into the wind, rises in pitch, not a whistle at all, but a... scream. My scream. My eyes flutter, and wisps of silvery white light float from my mouth. My glasses glaze over completely. My fingers became ridged and can no longer grip my broom and...I fall.

"No!" Hermione screamed seeing Worth falling.

Worthless and the broom tumble in opposite directions. The Nimbus soars end over end, tossed by the currents, then drops... right into the Whomping Willow. Floomp! Worthless, in freefall, drops through one cloud, then another. Plummeting through the circling Dementors.

People were screaming down below as Dementors were going after the students and the teachers were trying to help. Worthless kept falling.

Worthless went suddenly Moody was with his lion Patronus out after the Dementors when he looked pale when he saw Worth, falling quickly when Fawkes suddenly came and caught her stopping her just in time and Moody came to her quickly as he could where Fawkes dropped her in his arms.

"Dementors." Moody mutters with a dark look, but he quickly got off the pitch and hurried to the hospital wing where injured students were. "Madam Pomfrey." Moody called and Poppy came and gasped.

"What happened?" Poppy asked.

"Dementors came and she fell off nearly 100 feet high. Fawkes managed to catch her." Moody explained and he laid Worth on the bed but he was furious as he marched out to find Albus.

........

All around me was darkness as I felt comfortable when I suddenly heard voices breaking through the quiet.

"She looks a bit peaky, doesn't she?" Draco said to that.

"Peaky? What d'you expect her to look like? She fell over a 100 feet and still caught the snitch." Fred informed to him.

"Yeah, come on, Draco. We'll walk you off the Astronomy Tower and see how you come out looking." George informed.

"Probably a right sight better than he normally does." I moaned as I sat up as it revealed my friends around me.

"Worth! How're you feeling?" Hermione asked with concern.

As I edge up against my pillow, we see a nurse was removing the spikes of an umbrella from a Hufflepuff player's neck. Worthless doesn't look so good herself.

"Brilliant." I said cracking my back and everyone was wincing.

"Gave us a right good scare, mate." Fred with concern to her.

"What happened?" I asked and Draco looked pale.

"Dementors." Draco said and shivered. "You fell off of your broom when you were attacked."

"Really?" I said with sarcasm. "Never would have guessed I fell of my broom. I meant the match. Who won?" I asked and Draco smirked.

"We did luckily you caught the snitch. But trust me no one would have blamed you if you didn't, Worth. Dementors aren't meant to come on the grounds. Dumbledore was furious. After Moody saved you, he sent them straight off." Hermione informed and Neville nodded.

"There's something else you should know, Worth. Your Nimbus – when it blew away? - it sort of landed in the Whomping Willow. And well..." Neville started as he showed the splintered wood and twisted twigs on the bed. I looked on with sadness. Severus gave me that broom...it was a gift from him and it's broken. I loved that broom and now...it's gone.
