"I love you."
Those were the only three words Izuku needed to be told that would send his heart into a frenzy.
They were standing by the water fountain in the local park, the summer night air blowing past them.
"You do? I- Me too!" Y/N raised a playful eyebrow as a smirk etched onto her lips. "I-I mean, I don't... Not me, I don't love me. You love me. Wait-!"
The H/C-haired girl pressed a finger to his lips, silencing him before he could could continue embarrassing himself.
"I understand," she said, slowly moving her hand from his mouth, letting it fall limp at her side. "I understand."
"Good!" He squeaked, putting on a grin. But a certain thought itched in the back of his mind, making it harder to concentrate, and his smile faltered.
"What's bothering you?" The girl questioned, catching onto his fallen expression.
"I just..." He paused, not sure how to put his thoughts into words without sounding jealous. "I thought you liked Kacchan."
Y/N giggled and shook her head. "Why would I? He's explosive, and conceited, and just–all together–not my type."
That was all the green-haired boy wanted to hear. He pulled her into a soft embrace, which she happily returned.

The party was crowded, loud, and it smelt strongly of alcohol. Izuku was only there because Y/N had requested that he'd go with her.
But, she had had gone off to get a couple drinks and hadn't returned. And that worried him.
The boy stared down at his phone, attempting to drown out the surrounding noises.
But one particular sound caught his attention.
Y/N's laugh.
He immediately looked up from his cellular device, a wide smile on his face.
But it faded almost immediately when he saw what she was laughing at.
Katsuki Bakugou.
She had one hand resting on the ash blond's shoulder, and, in the other, she held a red solo cup filled with God knows what.
Izuku's heart clenched a bit at the sight.
He let his gaze fall back on the phone, checking the time.
10:15.
When he glanced back up, he had to do a double take.
Katsuki had his hand on her arm, slowly nudging her closer to him.
She smiled shyly, and they slowly began swaying to the music blaring in the background.
Bakugou was a terrible dancer. He moved like a drunk ostrich trying to act elegant.
Y/N on the other hand... Let's just say Izuku couldn't take his eyes off her. Her hips rocked from side to side, perfectly in sync with the song that was playing. She had her hands in the air and a wide grin on her lips.
Izuku couldn't help but smile.
But when a pair of hands landed on her hips, his happiness instantly drained away.
A look of uncertainty flashed across the H/C-haired girl's face, but she let Katsuki continue.
The crimson-eyed boy pulled her closer, their chests pressed up against one another.
Izuku gulped.
Then, without a moment of hesitation, the explosive teenager leaned forward and captured Y/N's lips in a messy kiss.
The color drained from Izuku's face, and, for a minute, he felt dizzy, as though he was going to pass out.
He stumbled backward and placed his hand on the wall behind him for support as he watched the duo, unable to remove his tear-filled eyes from the scene.
Katsuki pulled back before leaning closer to the side of Y/N's face, lips moving seemingly in slow motion from Izuku's point of view.
Whatever he was saying made Y/N's cheeks gain a tinge of pink color.
Izuku couldn't hear him.
He didn't want to hear him.
Y/N bit her lip, that same "I'm not so sure about this" look present in her eyes.
But she did nothing to stop Katsuki from pulling her away into the sea of sweaty teenagers crowding the small room.
Izuku's eyes followed them as they went, and in that moment he just felt so useless.
Hopeless.
And he turned and hurried out of the house, emerging into the cool night air. As he walked home, tears began streaming down his face.
He didn't look back.
Not even once.

Y/N slowly stepped up to the water fountain, eyes trained on the frost that had settled over the rusted metal.
She let out a shaky sigh and ran her fingers over the broken handle, tears building up in her somber E/C eyes.
"Y-Y/N?"
The girl gasped and looked up, meeting the eyes of none other than Izuku Midoriya himself.
"Dek- Izuku. Hi," she responded quietly.
He stared with wide eyes at the girl who had both stolen, and broken his heart.
She was bundled up in a beige coat and a lilac scarf, matching mittens protecting her hands and a beanie adorning her head. Her breath was visible in the chilly winter air.
Izuku took a step forward, causing her to move backwards.
He halted, afraid of scaring her away.
Not trusting his words, he held out his hand as a peace offering.
Her gaze trailed to his open palm and her breath hitched.
He studied her with hope filled eyes.
And she gave in.
As soon as she placed her gloved hand over his bare one, he pulled her close. Intending to keep her there forever.
His hands landed on her hips.
He pulled her impossibly nearer.
And he let his lips fall on her's.
After pulling away from the brief kiss, he leaned closer to her ear.
"I love you."
After receiving no answer, he pulled back, only to find the place where Y/N once stood was empty.
His shoulders slumped. I should've known, he thought to himself.
It's only a wish.
