backstory// antoinette grew up very wealthy as a result of her parents being descended from royalty. she'd had everything anyone could ever ask for as a child, save for parents that actually cared about her. her parents were almost never home, always on some lavish vacation, business trip, or generally anywhere that antoinette wasn't; which left her to her own devices. the only thing that kept her from losing her mind during childhood was her prized possession: an arabian pony named montague that she'd had since birth. he was her escape from reality, and most importantly, her best friend. antoinette rode montague everywhere, and sometimes snuck him into the house so that she could read whilst cuddled up next to him, or sleep beside him. at age 16, her life fell apart. strange people in white gloves showed up at her parents' estate one day after her parents had been on vacation longer than expected. she'd thought nothing of it until the leader, a man named itamar, apparently her father's childhood friend and her new legal guardian, informed her that her parents had been killed in an accident on their way back home. even though her parents never cared much for her, the news broke antoinette nonetheless. she was devastated to lose her parents, but she obediently let itamar take her under his wing because she knew it was the right thing to do. she would later find out that the strange white gloves served a purpose. itamar and his friends, including her parents, were part of a group of alchemists devoted to finding the secret to immortality known as the midnight sun. they wore the gloves to hide their hands, the only parts of their body that showed the truth about their age. antoinette's reaction to her discovery quickly transformed from horror to fascination as the alchemists shared their life's work with her. itamar, being the leader, gave her a pair of her own gloves and taught her the ways of the midnight sun, about everything there was to know of alchemy and its mysterious but fruitful properties. the members of the midnight sun aided in her training, and soon her grief at losing her parents hardened into coldness and indifference, a mask to hide her emotions, but even though she'd acquired an icy shield over her fragile heart, she still made sure that montague knew that she loved him, and she continued to spend every waking moment with the horse. at age 18, it was decided that antoinette would take over the midnight sun as leader, prompting itamar who had become a father figure to her to step down. itamar felt that antoinette had grown into a beautiful young woman, and that her attachment to her childhood pet would distract her from her studies and keep her from being the leader the midnight sun needed. he took montague from his stable one night while antoinette was asleep. he broke one of the horse's legs, so badly that montague would have to be put out of his misery. itamar hated to cause his ward so much pain, but he would do what he felt neccessary to ensure that antoinette's feelings for the horse didn't get in the way of her leadership. the next morning, he brought the girl down to see her suffering horse, and forced her to end his life herself. losing montague, the only thing remotely close to family that she'd had was her undoing, and though she pretended to be indifferent towards the deed, she'd wept for hours after the fact, she'd just never let anyone see. since she'd lost the only creature that meant anything to her, antoinette poured her mind, body and soul into the midnight sun. she spent the next hundred years of her life perfecting itamar's recipe for the elixir- a blessed concoction that allowed them all to live for centuries on end. soon, she found herself doing exactly what itamar had done to her, finding orphan chi. little did she know that one young man would change her life forever. while visiting the united states, she happened upon a circus, its best act being that of the bergamo brothers; a pair of 21 year old fraternal italian twins with synesthesia- a confusion of the senses. she was fascinated by them both, but the older one especially, luciano. she had a gift made for them, a box of various scents. she'd had it delivered to them, and they loved it so much that it became a part of their act. 'the symphony of smells,' they'd called it, due to the fact that when they smelled the scents, they heard music. at first she left them to wonder who their mysterious secret admirer was, and then she appeared to them one night after one of their performances. she told them how much she'd loved their show, explaining that she was the one who sent them their gift, and offered to take them out to dinner. pietro, the younger twin, was suspicious of her, qnd probably for good reason; but the elder, luciano was enthralled by her. he and his brother got into an argument so fierce over the matter that she had to stop them and ask, "well if i can't have both boys, can i at least have one?" it was agreed upon that luciano would go to dinner with her then. luciano was so upset with his brother that he left without saying goodbye. antoinette convinced him to stay with her, using his apparent love for her as an alibi. for the next fifty years, antoinette spent her life shaping luciano carefully into the next leader of the midnight sun. as he grew older, she felt herself growing more and more fond of him despite herself. she knew it was wrong to love someone over a hundred years younger than her, but he absolutely adored her, and she felt that part of herself deep inside, the part that wasn't cold as stone, the part of herself that knew they both needed love more than anything, even she couldn't keep that part of herself from loving him back. at first it was just familial love. she loved him the way she would love a brother. then in a few years, it was rapidly becoming passionate love, and it wasn't long before she saw him as more than a future leader for the midnight sun, she saw him as a future lover. when he finally came of age, she confessed her feelings to him and how no matter what she did, she couldn't hide them any longer. "i knew all along," he said to her, "but i was waiting until you knew it too." that night, the night she lay in his passionate embrace was the night she discovered love, but it still would not be the end of her struggles. she and luciano spent years trying to discover pietro's whereabouts, going so far as to move back to the place where they'd seen him last, fifty years ago. they created a resort and spa in the mountains, dedicated to helping others achieve longevity by providing elixirs snd luxurious treatments. the midnight sun sensorium and spa, they'd called it. in two years, a newspaper article appeared, telling of one pietro bergamo, but when they finally thought they'd located him, he had been proclaimed dead. his house had gone up in flames, and supposedly taken him with it. they later discovered that pietro had faked his death when he'd learned of the mudnight sun. he'd started his own group called the terces society, a handful of synesthetic individuals trained to fight against the midnight sun and find the secret to immortality before they do, and destroy them in the process. they'd employed three people to infiltrate the midnight sun and destroy it from the inside out. antoinette knows that her enemies hide in plain sight and are waiting to strike at the very heart of the alchemist group at any given moment, whether it be her or luciano. she must remain cautious and aware at all times and beat the terces society to finding the formula for immortality before their enemies become the death of them, for if one falls, the other must follow...

weaknesses// antoinette's past is also her undoing. she has ptsd from traumatic events she underwent, most of which were caused by itamar.
she hates seeing her hands without the gloves. to her it is a reminder of how she is so close yet so far away from immortality. she prefers to retain her icily beautiful countenance, after all, no one will love you if you're imperfect. it is easy to stop her in her tracks if you remove or damage her gloves, her only shield from her only imperfections.
