"I hate this dress."
"Quit whining, you're making me wear a mustache."
"You look distinguished. Shut up."
You and Bucky had been paired for the couples costume and although the both of you looked pretty good, it was safe to say comfort was thrown out the window.
The poofy, pink dress you were wearing was squeezing the life out of you at the waist and although the neckline wasn't tight, it immensely irritated you. You could feel perspiration gathering under your satin, elbow length gloves as you and Bucky made your way down the spiral staircase and into the large throng of people you've never met in your life.
Well, you couldn't exactly say if you've met them. They were all dressed up for the greatest holiday to date: Halloween.
Plus, the living room was very poorly lit with colored strobe lights being the only way to possibly direct yourself around the room. Spiderwebs and large, black bats hung in all the places DUM-E could reach with glowing jack-o-lanterns in every corner of the room, light fog pouring out of their mouths.
"Well, finally! Our princess and her suitor has arrived!" Tony called as you and Bucky arrived at the bar where the other Avengers were gathered at.
"Who are all these people, Tony?" Steve asked, his eyes darting around the room.
"That's a good question. All I know is they're pretty good looking people." He winked at a passing brunette wearing a very revealing nurse's outfit.
"You could've invited a serial killer for all we know."
"Cool it, Cap. JARVIS scans 'em while they walk in if that helps you sleep better at night."
"Nice dress, Y/N." Natasha smirked at you and you playfully rolled your eyes at the woman dressed as Bonnie Elizabeth Parker.
Her partner was Clint, a.k.a Clyde Champion Barrow.
Steve and Tony had dressed up as Sherlock and Dr. Watson, Steve looking incredibly uncomfortable in his black top hat and brown mustache. Tony, for some reason unknown to all of you, was like an exact replica of Sherlock.
Sam had vouched for Cher and Dionne, the iconic duo from the movie Clueless. Bruce was wearing a blonde wig and the famous yellow plaid outfit while Sam had chosen the blue plaid with the white and blue hat and the adorning rose.
Wanda had promised to go all out for Halloween and she didn't disappoint. Her outfit was a dark pink jumpsuit with "molten lava" cracks she replaced with the glow of her powers. Instead of a wig, she weaved her dark hair with strands of red energy, her head "flaming". Her Shark Boy sulked behind her in a dark gray jumpsuit with lightning blue stripes on the sides and a shark fin attached to his back.
You loved Halloween.
"Okay, who's up for shots? I'm dying for a drink." Tony yelled, circling the bar.
Before anyone could reply, a clap of thunder shook the Tower and the strobe lights flickered overhead.
Everybody turned to watch as the elevator doors opened and a cloud of smoke poured out, followed by two men in blonde wigs, one of whom was coughing violently.
"Stark!" Thor bellowed.
"Thor!"
The music resumed and the crowd of no names began to dance again. You watched as Thor sauntered over to the group with a big smile on his face. Loki, accompanied by his usual sour expression, seemed even more grumpy as he trudged slowly behind his hyped brother.
"What the hell are they wearing?" Bucky whispered and you put a gloved hand over your mouth to keep yourself from laughing.
"They're-they're the White Chicks." You managed to say without giggling aloud.
Thor's hot pink jean jacket and mini skirt accentuated just how muscled his shoulders and legs were. Loki wore a faded denim jacket with a light pink shirt that said "Dude Where's My Couture" in large, dark rose letters and an equally faded mini skirt. Both of their blonde wigs were lopsided and you reached up to straighten Thor's.
"Thank you, Lady Y/N."
"Nice legs you got there, Reindeer Games." Tony sneered and Loki gave him a look of pure hatred.
"Why are you wearing a wig if you're already blonde?" Clint asked.
"Stark said the wigs were essential to our costume. I do look quite fashionable as a platinum blonde, do I not?"
He struck a pose.
"You do not, brother. And you never should have listened to that blithering idiot Stark. He only looks to humiliate us." Loki hissed and stalked off to the other end of the bar, sending a gaggle of girls running off.
"That blithering idiot is right here. Now let's get drunk!" He whooped and began to pour out shots, drinking them as fast as he could pour.
"May I ask what you have dressed up as, Lady Y/N?"
Thor asked, sitting beside you.
"Oh, I'm Princess Peach. From the game, Super Mario Brothers. And Bucky here," you tugged on Bucky's arm to get his attention "is my Mario."
You flashed a smile at Bucky who returned it begrudgingly. His dark mustache really did look as distinguished as you found it. The blue jumpsuit he wore was a bit baggy, but complete with the red sleeve shirt, signature hat and the white gloves, you had to admit. You did a pretty good job.
"Your crown is falling, Princess. Chin up." He said, straightening the yellow crown atop your blonde wig.
"Thank you, sir. Now if you'd like to join me, I'm gonna go get messed up with Nat and Tony and nothing you can say is gonna keep this crown on my head."
You whooped and ran to the middle of the bar where Steve was counting how many shots Tony could down with Natasha yelling encouragements. Bucky shook his head before following you, Thor on his heels.
Bruce had sidled off to sit with Loki and Sam was occupied in an intense game of darts with a smirking Clint.
Pietro and Wanda were in the middle of the dance floor, looking about as happy as a couple of teenagers could be.
Life was good...for now.
