Torn; Chapter Twenty-Six

"Hello. You must be Madison," a girl, probably in her twenties or thirties, said as I entered the counseling room.

"Yes," I whispered. The memories of why I was here flooded my brain. The pills. The razor. The screaming. The panic. It all hit me at once again. I sat down in one of the small chairs, trying to forget the memories that haunt me.

"You can lie down on that couch over there if you'd like," she offered. I shook my head as she moved to sit beside me. "Okay, well I am Tammy, your counselor. I will help you with whatever you need help with. Don't be afraid to talk to me." I sat there as she explained everything. "Can you tell me why you tried to do it?"

The words got stuck in my throat. They wouldn't make their way to my lips. I looked at her as the tears brimmed my waterline. Finally, the only word that would come out was, "Jake."

"Who was Jake?"

"My boyfriend who cheated on me... with Claire." I stood up and began pacing the room. Nothing could get any worse. I had to tell this stranger what has happened in my life. "My parents... they died a few weeks ago... along with my sister." I couldn't stop now. I looked at her desk. The many pictures of her family lined it and the wall behind it. The tears rolled off my cheeks now. My knees buckled, and I couldn't stand any more. I hit the hard floor, sobbing into it. Tammy rushed to my side to help me up.

"Madison, it will be okay. You have bigger and better things to do in life besides cry over a stupid guy."

"MY PARENTS! MY ONLY SISTER! THEY DIED, DAMMIT! THEY WILL NEVER BE BACK!" I screamed through the tears. Her face went from sympathetic to shocked then back to sympathetic. I stumbled up off my butt and grabbed my bag. I walked out of the room and out of the building.

"Thanks, Lord. You make my life a living hell," I mumbled as I got into the cab that was waiting for me.
