minutes later in the conference room. The "DBD" clique are all sitting at a round
table when Det. Jenson and Det. Borden walk in and close the door behind them]
Det. Borden: [walks over and puts the two folders in the middle of the table]
Det. Jenson: Anyone want to tell us what happened?
[He looks around the table at the six of them]
Det. Borden: Nobody?
Ramon: We done told you all we have to say.
Det. Jenson: No, you didn't.
Brandon: Why y'all trying to drag this shit out? We ain't kill David Lee Rhoden.
Det. Borden: That's what all six of you said. Then one of you told us you were the reason he
was dead.
Det. Jenson: Make up your minds. You either killed him or you didn't.
Det. Borden: And how can one of you be the reason he's dead, but you didn't kill him?
Renee: We didn't kill David Lee Rhoden.
Det. Jenson: We know.
[He reaches down and opens both folders. On top of the folder on the left is a crime
scene photo of Mr. Rhoden. On top of the folder on the right is a picture of a cop.
They're the same person.]
Det. Borden: You didn't kill David Lee Rhoden. You killed Officer Robert Leon Davis.
[The "DBD" clique just look at the pictures]
Renee: And?
Det. Jenson: Tell me why.
Ramon: You got the records, you know why.
Det. Borden: Then tell us how you killed him.
Brandon: You know that too. We beat him and shot him to death.
Det. Borden: How did you find hum?
Dantrella: Bastard wasn't hiding. He just changed his name. He was in the open this whole time.
Det. Jenson: When did you see him for the first time, recently?
Liya: About a week before we killed his ass.
Det. Borden: It was premeditated?
Ramon: Call it what you want to.
Det. Jenson: So, you seen him on the street the week before?
Liya: Yes.
Det. Borden: You never seen him before then?
Renee: No.
Det. Borden: So, after 11 years you see him and recognize him?
Jamal: You don't forget a face like that.
Det. Jenson: [nods his head in understanding] Tell me what happened in the week leading up to
his death.
Liya: We were walking to the store, I think it was a Monday or Tuesday, and we looked across
street and there he was.
Renee: Just fucking walking around all normal-like and shit. He had his kids with him.
Det. Borden: Who recognized him first?
Jamal: I did. You don't understand, he did all that shit and got away with it. [starts to cry]
Motherfuckers covered his shit up, told us we were lying. Why the fuck would we lie
about something like that? I live with this shit everyday, but I see him and he just
walking around normal. That shit wasn't right.
Ramon: If the cops had done their job right the first time—
Renee: We wouldn't have had to do it for them.
Liya: How you cover up some shit like that? We ain't talking 'bout no parking tickets or
something like that. We talking 'bout some serious shit.
Det. Borden: What they did wasn't right. Child molestation and rape is serious.
Jamal: Who you telling? You think we don't know that? We know it. We knew it back too.
It's too bad your police brethren didn't.
Ramon: Wanna know some funny shit? Y'all came after us on some witness statements, but we
had witness statements too.
Liya: Ours just ain't count.
Jamal: Damn a witness statement! I had fucking medical records and shit, my word, their word,
[motions around table] and two people from next door. All that shit just vanished into
thin air.
Ramon: Just left the face of the earth.
Brandon: So we made that motherfucker's life vanish.
Det. Jenson: How did you find out where he stayed?
Renee: Sick motherfucker went back to the scene of the crime. But back then it wasn't
Greenland Acres, it was—
Det. Borden: Eastpoint Apartments.
Dantrella: Yeah. We found out where he stayed, thought about calling the cops, but then
we said "fuck it".
Det. Borden: And you decided to kill him?
Renee: Yeah.
Det. Jenson: Tell us what happened back then.
Ramon: Jamal?
Jamal: Tell 'em.
[Flashback]
[11 years earlier at Eastpoint Apartments. Liya, Renee, Dantrella, Ramon, and
Brandon are sitting in the living room if Anna Kanel's apartment]
Ramon: [stands up] Auntie, where's Jamal?
Anna: He went to talk to Officer Davis, down the hall.
Brandon: We want to go outside.
Anna: All of you?
Kids: Yes!
Anna: Go find Jamal and go outside. Stay together.
Liya: Okay.
[The five of them get up and walk to the door. Ramon opens the door and they all walk
out, Dantrella closing the door behind them.]
[In the hallway. The kids are walking and screaming Jamal's name]
Brandon: [yelling] Jamal!
Ramon: Jamal, hurry up so we can go outside!
[Renee and Liya stop at a door]
[Muffled screams and cries come from inside the apartment]
Renee: Jamal?
[Muffled screams and cries continue]
Liya: He's in here.
[The other three run to the door]
Ramon: Jamal?!
[cries continue]
Brandon: Open the door!
Ramon: [reaches over and turns the knob and the door opens]
[Inside Officer Davis' apartment. Officer Davis is sodomizing Jamal when the other five
walk in. Jamal's crying]
Ramon: Jamal?
[Officer Davis looks up and pushes Jamal away from him, stands up, and pulls his pants
up]
Brandon: Jamal?
Jamal: [balls up and continues crying]
Officer Davis: What the hell?! Get out of here!
Renee: [walks over to Jamal]
Officer Davis: [grabs Renee]
Ramon: [runs over and starts kicking and punching Officer Davis] Let go of my sister.
[The other three join in]
Officer Davis: [Pushes Renee away from him]
[Ramon, Liya, Dantrella, and Brandon stop hitting Officer Davis]
Renee: [moves over to Jamal] You okay?
Jamal: [shakes his head]
[During all the commotion two older women have come to the doorway and
are standing there]
Lady1: Lord, what's going on? [sees Renee and Jamal on the floor] Jesus. [walks in and goes to
them]
Lady2: [walks over to the other four kids]
Lady1: [kneels down by Jamal] Baby, you okay?
Officer Davis: Thank you for helping. I found him in the hallway like that and brought him in.
Ramon: He lying! He hurt Jamal!
Officer Davis: No, I was trying to help him.
Lady2: Shh! Baby, go and—you're Anna's nephew, right?
Ramon: Yes.
Lady2: Go and get your aunt and take your friends with you.
[Ramon, Brandon, Liya, and Dantrella all run out]
Lady: [picks Jamal up slowly] It's okay, Baby. We're going to help you.
Lady2: I don't know what you were doing, but it sure as hell wasn't helping.
Officer Davis: [smiles] What if I wasn't? Who do you think they're going to believe, you eight
or me?
Lady2: They'll believe the truth.
Officer Davis: Yeah, my truth.
[Two hours later at the police station. Brandon, Ramon, Renee, Liya, and Dantrella are
sitting in the "kids" interrogation room at a little table, when two male detectives
in]
Det. Jones: Hey. [closes door]
Liya: Hi.
Det. Hill: I'm sorry about your friend getting hurt.
Renee: Is he okay?
Det. Jones: Yes. Jamal's your cousin, right?
Renee and Ramon: Yes.
Det. Hill: Do you know how he got hurt.
Dantrella: Officer Davis did it.
Det. Jones: No, Officer Davis was helping Jamal.
Brandon: [shaking his head] No, he was the one hurting Jamal.
Ramon: Yeah, he was laying on top of Jamal, hurting him.
Det. Hill: Officer Davis is a policeman, do you think he would hurt Jamal on purpose?
Det. Jones: Cops only hurt bad guys and Jamal's not a bad guy is he?
Liya: No.
Det. Hill: So, why would Officer Davis hurt him?
Renee: Maybe he thought Jamal was a bad guy.
Det. Jones: Cops don't make mistakes.
Ramon: I saw him.
Det. Hill: Jamal went to Officer Davis for help, because that's what cops do. We help people.
Det. Jones: Officer Davis was helping Jamal, okay?
Dantrella: Then why was Jamal crying?
Det. Hill: When you get hurt and your mommy puts a band-aid on, aren't you still crying?
Brandon: Sometimes.
Det. Jones: That's what happened.
Liya: Jamal said Officer Davis hurt him.
Det. Hill: He's just confused. You know what confused is, don't you?
Ramon: Yes.
Det. Hill: Jamal only thinks Officer Davis hurt him, when really he was helping him.
Dantrella: But—
Det. Jones: No "buts".
Ramon: The two ladies said Officer Davis hurt Jamal too.
Det. Jones: We're going to take you home now, okay?
[The two detectives walk out and close the door]
[In the Detective's conference room. Officer Davis is standing there looking at a file when Det.
Jones and Det. Hill walk in]
Officer Davis: [looks up]
Det. Hill:[closes the door]
Officer Davis: How did it go?
Det. Hill: [punches Officer Davis in the face]
Officer Davis: [falls to the ground]
Det. Hill: That's how it went, you sick fuck!
Det. Jones: Pack up your shit and leave the station. Tonight.
Officer Davis: [stands up while rubbing his jaw] I thought you guys took care of it for me.
Det. Hill: We didn't do shit for you. I did it for the station.
Officer Davis: My record?
Det. Jones: We got that. Now get your shit and leave. Don't ever come back to Bately, again.
Ever.
Officer Davis: [throws file on the floor and walks out]
Det. Jones: [picks up the file, pulls out a lighter, and burns it] What about copies?
Det. Hill: Fuck the copies. He deserves everything he gets if this shit catches up with him.
[Present]
[In the police conference room. Det. Jenson and Det. Borden are standing there,
obviously shocked]
Det. Jenson: That's what happened?
Dantrella: Yeah.
Ramon: What happens now?
Renee: We killed a cop, that's the death penalty, right?
Det. Borden: Yes.
Brandon: Why couldn't they do their job?
Det. Jenson: You regret killing him?
Brandon: No. I own up for what I did. He couldn't and he paid the price.
Det. Borden: All of you feel that way?
[All six of them nod their heads]
Det. Jenson: Jamal, what ever happened to your mother?
Jamal: She believed the cops.
Det. Borden: Your father's family?
Jamal: I don't know them.
Det. Borden: All of you are ready to die for killing him?
Liya: Yeah.
Dantrella: Just 'cause he didn't have integrity, what makes you think we wouldn't?
Det. Jenson: What happened was pretty fucked up. Police officers are supposed to
uphold the law, not disregard it.
Ramon: What happens now?
Det. Jenson: Considering it was premeditated and he was a cop—not a good one, but a
cop none the less, the prosecutors will push for the death penalty.
Det. Borden: But the fact that what he did to Jamal went unpunished, that'll factor in too.
You might get life.
Det. Jenson: It all depends on how the jury and the judge feel.
Brandon: We going to the cells now, right?
Det. Borden: Not yet.
Det. Jenson: All six of you have to write and sign confessions.
Renee: Can we get the paper then?
Det. Borden: Why are you all in such a hurry?
Ramon: 'Cause we wanna get this over with.
Liya: It ain't even have to come to this, if the police would have done their job, instead of
wanting to do favors.
Det. Jenson: We understand we really do. [picks up the folders]
Det. Borden: [pulls out a lighter and sets both folders on fire]
[The "DBD" clique all sit there looking confused]
[Det. Jenson drops the burning files on the floor]
Jamal: What y'all did that for?
Det. Borden: Because if we were in your shoes we would have done the same thing.
Brandon: Y'all just covered our stuff up like they did his. How is justice being served?
Det. Jenson: In this case, it's being served like revenge, cold.
Ramon: What y'all go tell people?
Det. Borden: Unsolved case.
Renee: What do we do?
Det. Jenson: Same things y'all were doing before we arrested y'all.
Liya: I don't understand.
Det. Borden : You don't have to; just get up and leave.
Dantrella: Shit. [looks at the other five and stands up] Thank y'all.
