"I got a pie in the fridge, it's pecan, your favourite," she told John who was sitting down in the kitchen
"Yeah I'll take a slice," John replied and she nodded and opened the fridge taking out the pie
"So Randy's not taking this breakup thing well at all, I think you really need to talk to him," he said, thanking her when she put the pie in the oven to heat up
"John, you guys don't get it-" she said but John cut her off
"No Grace. You don't understand." He said and Grace's mouth shut
"You're so selfish. Randy's pining over you and you're just trying to convince yourself that he doesn't care!" John yelled
"This isn't about you Grace, it's about Randy." He said and Grace exploded
"It's never about me right John?" She asked
"It's always about Randy. No one ever gives a damn about what I have to say, or my side of the story. They all just think about Randy! Okay I called off the wedding. So what? It wasn't only his heart that got broken you know?" She complained
"But he was the one most affected." John butted in and she looked at him in disbelief
"Get the fuck out of my house." She told him plainly
"What?" He asked in disbelief, still sitting on the bar stool
"You've been on my ass about this since it happened. Maybe I didn't wanna marry Randy! Maybe, maybe I got caught up too fast," she said
"Maybe I was scared I'd fail as a wife and as a mom, maybe I was scared I'd lose him forever, but news-fucking-flash, that's exactly what happened and here I am, without Randy and no one cares to hear my side or try to help, they're all just kissing Randy's ass." Grace explained
"It's just like I thought it would be! No one is on my side. You are my best friend. You said you wouldn't pick sides, but here you are, telling me about how I should talk to Randy because he's depressed, but no one ever thought to ask how I was holding up right?" Grace asked and John looked away
"That's not fair John. You know it's not. It hurts me that you're supposed to be my best friend too. You're in the middle of it but not really. You wanna stay on Randy's side? Fine." She said
"You wanna lecture me? Fine."
"But I am not embarrassing myself for no one. I will not speak to Randy unless he's willing to speak to me. I won't go through Randy rejecting me like he did all those years ago." She admitted
"And guess what? In those days, you still chose Randy!" She yelled and then she just gave up
"Fuck you John. You wanna choose Randy over everything. You go right ahead, just don't say you're my best friend anymore," she said and John's heart dropped
"Grace-" he began but she was having none of it
"You know where the door is." She said coldly and walked upstairs, slamming the bedroom door making John jump
She was sick of this. John always making her feel like she was the scum of the earth for breaking up with Randy, especially since she was just insecure and afraid, but no one ever cared did they?
