Chapter 29
The Forest
I gulped and quickly asked Jade.
"Where are they?"
"You're dad has them locked up in a warehouse somewhere," she sobbed, "I can't remember, I'm so sorry, Fi-Midnight!"
I clenched my jaw. So my Dad was cheating at his own game, huh?
I used my darkness tracking and was able to find my Dad. I knew it! He was giving me hints for his game. Then my stomach tightened. He didn't kill one of the girls for it, right? I pushed the though out my head and pinpointed his location, grabbing Angel's hand just before I teliported us there.
"Why me?" Angel asked as we re-materialized.
"You have a bone to pick with father, right?" I grinned.
We had appeared in a forest. No warehouse to be seen. I knew it. Dad had Jade's memory tempered with. Someone had managed to weaken the protection spell. He or she must have used really dark magic, maybe even sacrificed something just to use it.
I shivered and used my darkness tracking again. I couldn't find him anywhere. Damn. How did he get away so quickly? Unless... He couldn't have just did this as a distraction?
I cursed him and turned to Angel.
"Any ideas, sis?" I asked, close to tears.
"Well..." she trailed off, staring into the distance.
I looked in the direction she turned her head and I placed a hand over my mouth, a whimper escaping.
In front of us was Palo. Or what was. His arm had been cut off and was bleeding heavily. He had already lost too much blood. He was beyond saving. Words hung in the air above his corpse:
'What you owed for the hint.
-Dad'
Rage grew inside of me and I nearly lost control to the darkness again. The War may be over, but mine is just about to begin.
I used darkness tarcking to trace anyone who had been in the area in the last fifteen minutes. I found out that Dad had actually been here for awhile.
He had stood beside a tree, disappeared and reappeared a few minutes later. A secret enterance? Our best bet.
I walked over to the tree, passing Palo's body. I felt as if I was going to vomit. I couldn't just leave him. It was my fault after all...
I couldn't bring him back to life. I could.. But it would mean I could fall closer to the darkness than ever before.
I waved my hand, sending him back to his home. They would be in shock, but at least they can bury him and they'll let him rest in peace.
I studied the tree, trying to find a lever or scanner. I grew impatient and lashed at the tree, knockinga hard branch downwards. The ground opened up beneath me and Angel jumped in straight behind me.
