i stare up at the sky
counting each star carefully
they twinkle and shine
reminding me of your eyes when you used to cry
the constellations , of when i used to connect your freckles with a sharpie
i count up slowly stopping when i get to forty-two
i let out a quiet sob and shake my head
" why'd you leave me baby boy ?"
i quietly ask as i stare at the forty second star
a tear slips and i close my eyes
" i love you baby ."
" you and all forty-two of your freckles ."
