Thor and I land on Stark Tower mayhem and chaos all around as the Chitauri army flies through the portal. We turn and see Loki standing, looking down at the war he created.
"Loki!" Thor shouts over the wind and noise. Loki turns and looks at us. "Turn off the Tesseract, or I will destroy it!"
"You can't." He replies calmly. He pointed his scepter at us. "There is no stopping it; there is only war!"
"You deal with your brother, I'll help civilians," I inform Thor as I walk to the edge of Stark Tower.
"So be it!" I hear before I let myself fall freely over the edge. I roll as I land on the ground people are nowhere in sight. In front of me are maybe ten or so Chitauri fighters circling around me. I move quickly into action tossing a piece of rubble at the armed soldiers. Knocking three of them to the side. The remaining fighters send energy blasts that I block easily with my gauntlets. I throw my lasso after them pulling them to me to kick them away like ragdolls. I look to the sky and see the SHIELD quinjet fall from the sky. Taking in my surroundings and seeing no one around, I rush to the crashed aircraft. Steve, Natasha, and Agent Barton walk out unscathed.
"Are you okay?" I asked, jogging up to them. They nod their heads for the most part, but Steve walks up to me and envelops me in a brief hug. A deep roar rumbles from above the city, and we all lookup.
"Stark, are you seeing this?" Steve asks into his earpiece. I take in the enemies that are pouring in through the portal. We maneuver our way to a bridge fighting off the soldiers where we can. "Those people down there need help."
"Go." Natasha states. "We got this."
"Think you can hold them off?" Steve looks at Hawkeye.
"Cap," He presses a button on his bow. "It will be my genuine pleasure." He takes aim at an enemy and shoots an arrow into the creature's head, gaining a few seconds for Steve to help the civilians. For a moment, I stand still to look at Steve run towards the officers. "You can give him back up, you know. We'll be fine." I didn't think twice before following suit. Running closer, I see Steve defend himself from three to four fighters oblivious to the one sneaking up behind him. I leap up and pull out my sword and turn slamming the last enemy into the wall before pulling out the blade and cocking my head slightly. The officers quickly get to work after that the display that was put on.
"Thanks." He looks at me.
"Anytime." I smile slightly. "Let's go." We run back to where Widow and Hawkeye are starting to look overpowered by the enemies. Steve runs for the first enemy in sight, and I slash one away from the group as we kill them slowly one by one. Until Thor's lightning comes from above electrocuting the rest of the enemies. Everyone stands trying to catch their breath before the next wave comes in.
"What's the story upstairs?" Steve moves towards Thor.
"The power surrounding the cube is impenetrable," Thor explains. I nod my head in agreement.
"Until we can figure out a way to close the portal, we would have to deal with the enemies that keep coming in," I add on.
"How do we do that?" Widow questions.
"As a team," Steve answers her question.
"We have unfinished business with Loki." Thor motions to me,
"Yeah? Well, get in line." Hawkeye retorts.
"Save it." I throw in his direction, turning toward our fearless leader Steve who gets a better look at the battlefield before he addresses us.
"Loki is going to keep the fight focused on us, and that's what we need." Steve starts off. "Without him, these things can run wild." Steve's plan fades into the background as I focus on Dr. Banner riding toward us.
"Steve." I nod toward the scientist getting off the motorcycle. We meet him halfway.
"So, this all seems horrible." Bruce seems to try and crack a joke to try and lighten the mood. I grimaced slightly.
"I've seen worse." The reformed assassin counters. Banner apologizes. I know they are speaking of The Hulk without bringing up his name. "We could use worse." Steve converses with Tony briefly before a Chitauri Leviathan flies towards us. Banner begins walking towards the colossal creature.
"Dr. Banner!" I call out, and he turns to look at me. "Now might be a good time for you to get angry."
"That's my secret, Diana. I'm always angry." He turns and shifts into The Hulk. His clothes fall apart, leaving only his pants before he brings the alien to a stop breaking away the armor. Tony sends a missile into the newly exposed flesh. Everyone take cover as the explosion is infused and blast back towards our group. We all circle, looking up at the screeching Chitauri. Widow calls, and we look to the portal as more enemies pour in.
"Call it, Cap," Tony says.
"All right, listen up." Steve grabs our attention. "Until we can get this portal close, our priority is containment. " He addresses everyone one by one. "Natasha and Diana, you're with me. We keep fighting on the ground, and Hulk." They look at each other. "Smash." I feel a smirk form on my lips as Hulk takes off, destroying things in his path. "Are you ready to fight some aliens." I equip my sword.
"I've killed things from other worlds before."
--
The three of us regroup again but with a worn looking Natasha.
"This isn't going to mean a damn thing if we don't get that portal closed." Widow discloses.
"Well, if you're going to get up there, you're going to need a ride," Steve explains.
"I have one." She throws her on the ground and walks a few paces away before getting in a stance to run. "Diana, give me a boost." I kneel down, moving my shield over my head. I push up once Nat land lands on my shield.
"Now it's just us," Steve notes. I look towards Steve and smile a little. I notice a black coming towards us.
"Look out!" I call moving swiftly to block the blast with my bracelets. I clash them together, sending them flying back, but more keep appearing, causing us to move into action to defeat as many as we can. Tony flies down and helps us at some point before we are left alone.
"I've got it covered." I hear Steve before I turn to see I'm alone. Above a Chitauri Leviathan flies overhead. I leap onto a building then on to the alien, stabbing my sword in the side. I push myself up and force the blade up with me cutting it open before land rolling on the ground. An explosion happens beside me, and a man flies out onto a car. I move quickly and discover that it was Steve.
"Steve!" I cry. I help him up and hug him tightly before letting him go, "Are you okay?" He nods his head breathlessly.
"We have to keep moving." He determines. I know he can see the worry etched on my face. I nod my head.
"Well, let us get to work."
--
I stab another enemy as and kick him towards Thor, who bats him away.
"Do it!" Steve shouts. Confusion crosses my features. "Stark, these things are going to keep coming." I make my over to Steve and place my hand on his arm as my gaze follows his line of sight and sees Iron Man leading a missile through the portal. My hand somehow find my way to Steve's as I wait for Tony to come back through. The world seems to fall silent as the Chitauri army falls dead around us, and we wait for Iron Man to exit.
"Close it," Steve says.
"No!" I turn to look at him. I move to make my way up, but Steve, with all of his might, tries to hold me back. "We can't close it; he isn't back yet."
"Diana, if we don't close that portal, that blast will kill everyone here." He reasons. "You remember what I told you in Veld." Hearing that name brings memories of Steve and Bucky flooding into my mind. "We can't save everyone in the war." I sag in defeat in Steve's arms as the portal closes above. "Son of a gun." I look up and see a small figure falling from the sky.
"He's not slowing down," Thor says, moving his hammer in a circular motion ready to fly up until Hulk catches the Iron suit and lays him down on the ground. We run over, and Thor removes his mask. Tony lays there lifelessly, and everyone stays silent. Hulk roars, and Tony gasps for air.
"What happened?" He asks. "Please tell me nobody kissed me."
"We won," Steve says, breathlessly.
