Chapter 38

I spent at least five minutes cradling Lucas' head to my chest, rocking back and forth while Jason stood silently behind me.

"I'm so sorry," I cried, my tears falling freely onto his chest.

Lucas' eyes were closed shut, not even fluttering by the looks of it, but I couldn't stop talking as though he was listening.

"I'm sorry for everything. I should have told you I loved you. Because I do, you jerk, I love you and now I can't even tell you," I sobbed, pressing my head into the crook of his neck.

"Emma..." Jason whispered with a hoarse voice. "We have to get out of this place as quick as possible."

"I know," I whispered with a nod, but looked back down to Lucas. "Just a few more minutes," I said as another tear of mine dropped to Lucas' chest, and I brushed away some of his hair.

I lie my head onto his chest, wishing that I could hear a heart beat.

However, as I began to feel a flutter of energy rushing through me, I started to hear a heart beat slightly.

My eyes widened, and I pressed my ear harder, hoping that I was just imagining it, but when a few seconds passed and it started again, I lifted my head up before covering my mouth.

"What?" Jason asked worriedly.

Slowly, Lucas' eyes began to flutter open, and his icy blue eyes were filled with confusion as they met mine.

"Lucas?" I whispered in disbelief before looking to his chest.

Without a second thought, I ripped open his shirt, revealing no wound from the bullet.

"Oh my God," I laughed happily, covering my mouth with my hand as a smile grew enormously on my lips.

I swam down and dived my arms around him, possibly giving him the tightest hug I have ever given anybody in existence.

Slowly, he wrapped his arms around me, and his surprisingly warm arms made me sigh in relief.

He's okay.

"How..." I lifted my head up. "How did this happen?" I whispered, mostly to myself.

"It's you," Jason said behind me quietly, and I turned around with my brows furrowed.

"What is me?"

"You're the healer," he explained. "Like your father said. One's a healer. The other causes total destruction."

My eyes slowly moved back to Lucas, and his eyebrows furrowed as he slowly sat up with my help.

"What the hell happened guys?" Lucas whispered roughly.

I sucked in a harsh intake of air. "Anthony... he didn't like my idea, so he ordered the hunter to... kill you," I whispered.

Lucas' brows furrowed. "What was your idea?"

Although I wasn't looking at Jason, I knew he was glaring daggers to me. "For her to die instead of me," Jason snarled, and I sighed, waiting to hear what Lucas had to say about that.

My eyes were cast downward, however, when I felt Lucas' warm hand cup my cheek, my eyes looked up to see that his icy blue eyes were locked on me.

"You're so stupid," he shook his head as he drew his finger up and down my cheekbone.

Before I could appreciate his touch, the door was thrown open behind me, and I turned around quick, shielding Lucas with my body as I was doing so.

"What the hell are you doing here?" I yelled when I found Jasmine standing by the doorway.

"Relax, Sullivan," she rolled her eyes, and my jaw clenched as I looked down to my cuffs.

Although now wasn't the time or place to think about it, I couldn't help but wonder how I could heal Lucas when my powers were sealed with the cuffs.

Another thought passed through me as I looked back to Lucas. "Do you think you have the power to take off the cuffs?"

Lucas shrugged. "I can try."

Slowly, he moved his hands so they were holding my own.

I bit my lip as I tried to hold back a blush before he lifted his hands on top of the cuffs.

In seconds they're cracked open, and I smirk before looking at Jasmine.

"I've wanted to do this for a long time," I said, standing up on my own two feet before using telekinesis to throw her across the room.

I decided to hold her against the door, and Jasmine thrashed. I couldn't help but laugh as I got up to her face.

"Tell me what I need to know about this whole process, Jasmine," I demanded, but she only snorted, looking over my shoulder to look at Lucas.

"You just can't die, can you?" She clicked her tongue on top of her mouth.

My jaw clenched and I gripped Jasmine's jaw before making her look at me.

"Tell me what I need to know or so help me God, I will kill you," I clenched out, releasing all the anger I've had for her for the last few months.

"Emma," Jason said with a warning tone, but I refused to acknowledge it.

"Why are you so loyal to him, huh? He is nothing but an ass," I said, and she glared.

"What do you understand? You basically have two dads. A mom. A family. My parents left me on the corner of the street at the age of nine. He was the one to take me in. Train me."

My eyes widened. "A family? Is that what you think I have?" I scoffed, ignoring the ache in my chest. "My mom is dead, Jasmine. So is my older sister who I always thought to be my best friend."

"My dad has a whole ton of secrets, and my birth father is a fucking psychopath! You think my life is easy? I would take anything than to have what I do right now," I whispered, and Jasmine's eyes flashed with sympathy, but was gone so fast before I could address it clearly.

Jasmine sighed, clenching her jaw slightly before looking away from me. "Each generation of hybrids were kept in hold by hunters, who, for hundreds of years wanted the power of immortality," she started.

She looked back to me before biting her lower lip. "But each time. They failed."

"Why?" I asked as my brows furrowed.

A dry laugh left her. "Because their bond is too strong to work against."

My eyes slowly moved to Jason before looking back to her. "What do you mean?"

"You both are one of the few that had known each other before the ritual. Everyone else were complete strangers. But they felt as if they couldn't betray the other or something," she shurged. "At least, that's what Anthony said."

"He thought he could do it. Work around it this time," she sighed, before adding, "but I told him not to get his hopes up."

"Why?" Jason asked behind me.

She laughed blankly. "Because I didn't have to be smart to know you both had each other's back," she glanced at Lucas. "The three of you. It's weird."

"Their connection..." Lucas started. "Is it intimately?"

"No," Jasmine shook her head. "It's love. But it can grow into intimacy like any other normal relationship."

Jasmine glanced to her hanging feet before looking back to me. "Can you put me down now?"

I sighed, and softly landed her to the ground, but I made sure she noticed my smirk. "You're going to be extremely useful, Jasmine."

Jasmine managed to sneak Lucas back to my room, as well as Jason. It was pretty easy considering everyone in the house was sleeping.

We chose to keep the small fact that Lucas was still alive to ourselves.

At first, I wondered why she wasn't running to Anthony to spill all our secrets, until I then realized, she's scared of us.

Two hybrids with a hunter on our side? I guess that could make anyone scared.

Plus, we didn't give her the option to leave until our plan came into action, so we locked her in my room with us.

After we got to hour 12 of being held in my room, Jasmine gave us some useful information, saying that the destructive hybrid — Jason — has all of their powers dangerously heightened.

Jason tried his best to do his worst, but nothing was able to happen.

Jasmine was whining on the chair by the far corner of the room while Jason stood in front of Lucas and I as we were sitting on the mattress.

My eyes occasionally moved to the side, glancing at Lucas every so often to make sure he was okay.

But after probably the hundredth time of me looking over my shoulder, Lucas finally noticed how creepy I was being.

His brows furrowed as his lips tipped up to a lazy smirk. "Why you staring, Hope?"

I couldn't help but smile with a small shrug. "I'm just worried," I confessed.

"Uh!" Jasmine groaned. "Can I leave now?"

"No," the three of us shouted simultaneously just as the doorknob rattled, followed by a knock.

"Emma," Adam's muffled voice caught my attention, and everyone stayed silent. "Can I come in?"

I glanced at Lucas and Jason who both shook their head. But I felt bad slightly, so I decided to be a little humane and open the door.

When Adam found Lucas on the bed, his eyebrows raised. "I thought you were dead."

Lucas simply glared at him, however, when Adam's eyes moved around and found Jasmine sitting on the chair, his eyes doubled in size. "And you're here. Now I'm officially surprised."

I sighed, and crossed my arms over my chest before sitting next to Lucas.

Adam closed the door behind him before smiling at me. "So what are you guys doing?" He asked, clapping his hands together.

"I don't know if we can trust you, Adam," Jason hissed, and I suddenly remembered the news he heard yesterday.

Adam sighed, looking to Jason. "Listen, I had no idea why my dad did that, and trust me when I say I'm fucking pissed at him for what he did to your mom," he said.

He slowly lifted up his hand, letting it stand between them. "Truce?"

Jason eyed his hand. "I'm not touching you."

Adam sighed before dropping his hand, looking at the three of us before settling on me. "I want to help you, Emma," he shook his head. "You shouldn't have been here in the first place."

My eyes moved between Lucas and Jason before slowly nodding. "Okay. You want to know what we're going to do?"

Adam nodded, sitting on my right side. "Yeah. Let me help."

I cleared my throat before smiling tightly. "Fine."

"We're planning on killing Anthony."

We all stayed locked in my bathroom — ignoring Jasmine's pleas to let her out of the room.

And although I trusted Adam slightly, the boys didn't believe his schedule was all that good, so they demanded he stay in the room with us for the time being.

The next day — and if my calculations were correct, it was Monday — the five of us were woken up by the sound of the door knob rattling.

My head lifted off of the pillow slightly, causing Jason and Lucas to wake up from my right side, followed by Adam sitting up on the chair, and Jasmine cursing under her breath while she sits up from the stiff floor.

"You think it worked?" Jason whispered, addressing what we had done the night before.

After pestering Jasmine with hundreds of questions about hybrids, we decided to test a theory I had.

Together, we used our powers to lock the door, hoping that it would prevent the hunters from opening the door.

So far, it looked like it's working.

The hunters on the opposite side cussed loudly and I couldn't help but crack a smile as I looked at Jason.

He and Lucas both smirked, and I was ready to cheer that we did it until I heard Omar's voice. "Call the boss. Tell him it's about Emma," he demanded to someone, which was followed by at least three men's footsteps running down the hall.

"Jason, you don't have long," Lucas whispered behind me, and I looked back to see Lucas looking at Jason worriedly.

"Are you ready?" I said, biting my lower lip anxiously.

"Are you?" He replied, and my brows furrowed.

"I'm not the one going against him, Jase," I reminded him, and he cracked a soft smile.

"He's your dad, Em," he reminded me.

But I shook my head. "He's my biological dad, but he was never there for me. My dad is home, and although he's difficult, he was there when I was growing up."

Jason glanced at me with his eyes filled with pity before he slowly nodded. Before he could say anything however, another voice joined our conversation, but it was on the opposite side of the door.

"Emma," Anthony's hard voice was muffled, but sounded so clear.

I stilled as Jason and Lucas both stood up from the bed. "I assume Jason is also in there with you," his voice softened slightly, but I still clenched my jaw.

My gaze shifted to Lucas, widening my eyes. "You have to hide. In my closet there's an exit. Or go in my bathroom. I don't care."

Lucas scoffed as he stood in front of me with his arms crossed. "That's not happening, Hope."

Jasmine scoffed. "What happened to princess, Scott?"

He shot her a glare before looking back to me. "You're hiding," I said with a straight face and his jaw clenched.

"Don't give me that look! You know that Anthony will hurt you to get to me," I hissed quietly, and he rolled his eyes.

"He can't hurt Jason and I. He needs us," I continued.

Jason scoffed next to Lucas. "One of us," he said, moving behind Lucas while I kept my eyes on the stubborn man in front of me.

"Just go hide," I clenched out, and he matched my glare just as the front door was opened by Jason.

My eyes widened and I quickly stood up from the mattress, followed by Jasmine and Adam who were standing still by the far end of the bedroom.

Anthony's blue eyes met theirs, and they narrowed before he nodded his head back. "Leave. Both of you."

Jasmine scurried out with Adam tugging behind slowly. But I didn't miss the glare he directed at Anthony discreetly.

When they both left, they closed the door behind them, leaving only the three of us with Anthony alone.

Anthony glanced at Lucas, and then me before laughing. "Ah, I guess we know who the healer is now, don't we?"

"Fuck you," I hissed, and his eyebrows shot up.

"I'm your father. You talk to me with respect, Emma," he growled lowly, and my eyes narrowed.

"You are not my father," I retorted.

Anthony scoffed, crossing his arms over his chest. "And you think Alexander is more of a father figure to you?" he asked, addressing my dad.

Lucas stood in front of me, and Jason moved next to him. "Stop talking to her," Lucas snarled.

He glances at the both of them before connecting the dots. Shaking his head, a light laugh left him. "So which one of you is dying today gentlemen?"

Feeling annoyed, I moved around Lucas and stood in front of him, getting closer to Anthony. "Someone's dying here, Anthony. But it won't be us."

Anthony chuckled. "Me, I'm assuming?"

My jaw clenched, but didn't move or make a sound.

"But, then how will you know what happened on the 16th of June?" Anthony questioned with a pout, and I suddenly lost air.

The accident.

"What do you know about the car crash?" I demanded, and Anthony cracked a smile.

"Come on Emma. Olivia was the closest thing to the love of my life in my early twenties. You think when she died I didn't do my research?" He laughed with a shake of the head. "You think low of me."

"What, do you know?" I said once again, and his lip tipped up.

"I know who was in the car when they crashed into you."

Next chapter... fucked.

I can't believe it's almost forty chapters! Definitely more than it was on episode. I think it was... 26?

RIP to all of those still reading it on the app. It was so horribly written, I'm still surprised it got over 200k reads.

But I'm still thankful that people even read the worst of my work!

I love you lovelies so much! You didn't really think I would kill Lucas, would you?

Nah, not yet.

I would like to ask you to comment beside the name you would like to die in the next chapter! Very curious!

Anthony

Please vote and comment! And I'll see you lovelies in the next one xx
