Chapter 6

I sit back down by the wall and casually put my hand to my ear.

"Did you get that?" I whisper.

"Yes, every bit of it thanks to you." Cannon says back through the phone.

"Do you know where I am?"

"Yes and we are on our way."

"Thank goodness!" I yell quietly back.

"Call me back if you can if you hear anything okay?"

"Gotcha." with that I hang up, slipping the phone into my pocket secretly. I begin to laugh, causing glances from others, including the men from across the room. Don't people ever check their pockets? Apparently not!

The guard closest to me gathers enough courage to step closer to me slowly. I look over at him, a devilish grin on my face.

"May I ask what's so funny?" he asks me, one of his eyebrows rising into an arch.

"Nothing of interest," I try to choke back my laughter and keep a strait face. His face begins to swim with confusion, which only makes it harder not to laugh. He walks away slowly, upset about his unanswered question. I begin to sing Love Like Woe by The Ready Set, trying to enjoy this happy moment.

"Woe oh, oh, oh!

Woe oh, oh, oh!

I gotta feel like it don't make, like it don't make

Feel like it don't make sense

I'm thinking baby you and I are undeniable

But I'm finding now love's unreliable

I'm given all I got to make you stay

Or am I just a roadblock in your way?

'Cause your a pretty little windstorm

On the boulevard

Something like a sunset

Oh yeah a shooting star

And I might drive myself insane

If those lips start speaking my name

'Cause I got some intuition

Or maybe I'm superstitious

But I think you're a pretty sweet pill that I'm swallowing down

To counter this addiction

You got me on a mission

Tell me darling can I get a break, somehow?

Can I say no?

She's got a love like woe (Woe oh oh oh)

Girl's got a love like woe (Woe oh oh oh)

(Ba da da)

I gotta feel like it don't make sense

'Cause you're bringing me in

And now you're kicking me out again

Love so strong (Woe oh oh oh)

Then you moved on (Woe oh oh oh)

Now I'm hung up in suspense

Because you're bringing me in

And then you're kicking me out again

It's like a hurricane

Speed train

She's a movie

Go catch her in the fast line

Oh I gotta know

Can I keep up with her pace?

Kick it into gear when I see that face

You can take up all my time 'cause you're the only one

That can make a storm cloud break

Pulling out the sun

And I can get caught in the rain

Can I get your lips to speak my name?

'Cause I got some intuition

Or maybe I'm superstitious

But I think you're a pretty sweet pill that I'm swallowing down

To counter this addiction

You got me on a mission

Tell me darling can I get a break, somehow?

Can I say no?

'Cause you're bringing me in

Love so strong (Woe oh oh oh)

Then you moved on (Woe oh oh oh)

Now I'm hung up in suspense

Because you're bringing me in

And then you're kicking me out again

Because we only have one life

Exciting in the moment

All seems so right

So would you say you're mine? (We'll be just fine)

Would you say you're mine? (We'll be just fine)

She's got a love like woe (Woe oh oh oh)

Girl's got a love like woe (Woe oh oh oh)

I sing the song over and over in my head, mouthing the words quietly. I rock my head back and forth and tap my feet to the rhythm. I look up from the ground to find the same guard that had asked me what I was laughing about earlier was also singing quietly along with the beat of my feet and hands. I begin to laugh once more, surprised that he of all people here knew the song.

"So you know The Ready Set?" I say a smile crawling up my face slowly. He immediately stops singing and looks at me, embarrass that he got caught.

"Yes, a little." he says quietly.

"I like them too," I turn back to the wall in front of me and continue to tap out the beat with my foot and hum. From the corner of my eye I watch as he inches closer to me slowly but less cautious. After a while of listening to me hum it out he joins in, a little louder then before. Together we both begin to sing the lyrics, occasionally taking turns on each verse. We receive glances occasionally from people around the room, but I no longer care about them looking.

Why we were even here in this room doing nothing, I have no idea. Although I occasionally saw the men call one girl over at a time talking to them about something. More then likely about the auction Friday. I'm guessing that they are just looking at all of us picking out the ones they like best, but what do I know? Besides stealing a cellphone... And acting weird.

After a while of singing random songs together and with another one of his friends, the men begin to exit out the door we entered. The room go silent as we all watch them leave one by one, but there is one that I focus on the most as he leaves. The one who had woke me up oh so nicely this morning, was watching me as he was exiting the room last. I don't know why he did, but he did, and it bothered me.

*~*~*~*

After an hour or so the guards begin to lead all the girls, including me, into another room. Where they leave us alone with only 4 guards guarding outside the door. Same as before, I keep my distance from the girls and occasionally I stare at the door. Waiting for it to open, eager to be alone, to be somewhere quiet. I suck in a deep breath, ready to scream and how long has it been? 24 hours? Maybe more, not even 2 days and I'm already going insane.

I let my thoughts ensnare my mind with boredom. All of the girls laughter makes me feel as though I am going insane, and I begin to wonder if I'm going to have to listen to it every day until my rescue. I wonder exactly when that will be? Will they get here on time or to late? Will we have any problems?
