Darkness seeps into my room
But I'm not afraid
I don't push it away
Either
It's a guest
I welcome it
As I would welcome
The light
I can't only have one forever
It has to take turns
Like night and day
Life isn't just fun and games
There is pain
Suffering
And loss
But that's not always bad
Life isn't always just pain and suffering
There are butterflies
That tickle your stomach
Love
Happiness
Courage
And the journey of finding yourself
Filling up your tank of self-worth
Patching up the leaks
So it doesn't empty
And once you have enough for yourself
Lending some to others
To help them grow
And find happiness
Once you love yourself
No one can reach you with their unkind words
You'll be too high for them to even reach
For them to even try climbing
Because they themselves
Have a deep sadness
Or frustration
That they can't seem to deal with
So they find no better thing to do
Than to bully you
Pound you into the mud
With insults
Pushing you down
"Freak"
To put themselves higher
So that they can try to grasp
That happiness
That they've been desperately trying to find
Hiding it from everyone
Putting up a wall
Covering up their pain
With mean words
And punches
Thinking that it will help
But slowly dying inside
You see
As long as you don't take it out on others
It's okay to express yourself
In fact
I encourage it
Even if no one listens
Even if people call you a "smart alic" or "snot" for it
You expressed it
And that's the really important detail
I have darkness
I have many creatures, demons, and spirits that haunt me
But I don't mind
I keep living my life
Sometimes they make me angry
Or sad
Sometimes I can see one running
From tree to sign
Just like an amazing acrobat
Never touching the ground
To keep up with our car as it drives around
Sometimes a demon pins me to my bed
At night in the dark
So I'm paralyzed
And tries to terrorize me
Sometimes It works
Other times it doesn't
I've lived with these beings
Ever since I can remember
They're a part of my life
And good or bad
They're my friends
They keep me company
And teach me a lot~ 💠
