I sat in my last period of the day, tapping my pencil impatiently on my desk. The black slacks that I am wearing are covered in lint that collected throughout the day. I brushed some of the lint off of my legs.
I began to tap my pencil eraser on the desk again, waiting for the bell to ring. "Miss Rowes," My teacher called out my name from the front of the hall. "Solve this equation." He pointed at the white board in front of me. "(2xy-3y)^2-14(2x-3y)+49=?" I huffed and wrote the equation down on my paper and began to solve it.
A couple of minutes later I raised my hand. "Professor Payne, the answer is xy^2+84xy=49." I said. "And how did you solve that Miss Rowes?" He said in a very proper English accent. I wanted to vomit. " factored the equation sir." I said looking him straight in the eyes. "That is correct Miss Rowes." he said turnign around to face the board.
"Now you see here how this second equation says to solve with factoring as well." He said pointing at the thick black writing on the board. "Mr. Espinosa." He called out to the student in the front of the classroom. I didn't even notice that he was in here.
"What." He said sighing and impatiently tapping his pen on his desk. "Solve this equation." The professor said pointing at the board. "The answer is seven." He said smugly, earining a couple of snickers from around the classroom. "Mr. Espinosa, How did you graduate high school?" The professor asked raising his eyebrows and turning in the other direction.
"Mr. Espinosa I will let this icnident pass once and only once, are we clear?" the professor said. "Yes sir." He said earing more snickers from the classroom. Matthew leaned back in his chair and placed his hands behind his head. He turned his head and looked at me. I glared at him in disgust. He winked at me and I rolled my eyes and tapped my pencil impatiently on my desk again.
The bell rang, signaling the end of the day. The whole hall of students began to shuffle out of the dark room and out into the crowded hallway. it was currently 9pm. I had to take an evening course because all of the other math levels were taken. I felt a tap on my shoulder and I turned around quickly.
"Oh eager are we." It was Matthew. I shot him a glare and walked out into the crowding hallway. The air was clearer and cooler. I began to walk towards the exit. I pushed the doors open and stepped out onto the pavement.
"I am so hungry," I muttered under my breath. I walked off the campus and down the road a little bit to a nearby McDonalds. I pushed open the doors and looked up at the menu. I decided on a chicken salad with a Dr. Pepper. I ordered and filled up my drink.
"Chicken salad!" I heard the cashier yell from behind the counter.
I walked up to the counter and picked up my salad. I grabbed a seat near the window and began to eat the salad. I reached for my school bag behind me and it wasn't there.
"Looking for this?" someone said from behind me. I jumped slightly and turned around. There was a person in a black hoodie and black skinny jeans. "I need that back." I said pointig at the backpack which he had hanging from his arm.
"No." He said. throwing it over his shoulder. "Please you dont understand. I'm a college student and-" He cut me off. "Its me," He said pulling off his hood.
"Fucking Espinosa." I said sighing and leaning back in my chair. "Someone's less afraid to swear." He said while putting the bag back on my chair and walking to the other side of the table and sitting in front of me.
"You obviously don't have any street smarts Rowes." He said smirking at me while rolling one of my pencils in between his fingers. "I do to!" I said gasping and leaning back on the chair slightly.
"No, when you asked for your bag back, you gave out that you were a college student, if I wouldn't have stopped you, you would have continued to ramble about your life." he said with an evident grin on his face. I looked down at my math work knowing that he was correct.
"I see you blushing." He said which caused me to blush harder. "It's cute." he said causing me to look up at him.
"Thank you." I said covering up my face. "You're welcome." He said rolling my pencil along the table. "It's getting late." I said yawning and putting my completed math worksheet into my purple folder. I tucked it into my backpack and turned around to see Matt looking straight at me.
"I know I'm ugly but did I get Ranch dressing on my face?" I said pointing at my face. He shook his head and I turned back around and zipped my backpack.
"When was the last time you had a boyfriend?" He asked. My eyes widened and I clampled my hands together. "Like sixth grade." I said laughing nervously.
"Thats cute." he said with a grin on his face. "So does that mean you havent had your first kiss then?" He said. "No don't be a smart ass." I said rolling my eyes at him.
I took a bite of my salad and he shot me another question. "Who was your first kiss?" He asked raising his eyebrows.
"Well, I kissed the one boy in sixth grade like twice, but when I was a junior in high school i sort of..." I trailed off.
"Sort of what?" he said, pressuring me. "I made out with my best friend Hannah." I rushed out. "You...experimenting...with girls?" he asked with a look of disbelief and excitement.
"Yeah, I realized that I wasn't really interested in them shortly after we did. We aren't even friends anymore." I said. I took. A drink and looked at the notebook that Matt had set on the table.
"Mind if I look?" I said pointing at the notebook titled 'english'. "No go ahead Eves." He said.
"Are you serious?" I asked raising one eyebrow and smirking at him. "About what?" he asked with his eyes wide and his lips in a thin line, his nostrils slightly flared. "Eves?" I questioned. "Yeah sorry." he said looking down. "It just sort of came out. Oops." he said grinning slightly.
I grabbed the notebook and flipped it open. I flipped a few pages until I found a poem.
I folded the cover behind the back of the book and began to read it.
'The demons that lie in many books
The ugliest ones
The ones that we create conspiracies about in our heads and on the page
The ones that we checked for under our beds as tiny tots
The ones that cause us to have terrible dreams and wake up out of breath and scared out of our wits
The ones that you cannot stop dreaming about
The ones that cause us to become possessed
Even in our best dreams they never seem to disappear
The ones that we can kill but seem to never kill the right way
The ones that revive themselves in the underworld
The ones that we eventually stopped checking for
The ones that never inhabited the space just below our mattresses
But the ones that lie within us
We are our creators of our worst demons
The creators of our worst nightmares'
(A/N: I wrote this off of the top of my head, it sort of happened in one of my dreams and I was inspired to write a poem about it. It isn't the best but I'm gonna make Eva think it is aye.)
"Matt." I Said looking up at him. "What Eva?" he said looking at me with a blank expression.
"You wrote this?" I said pointing to the pencil written poem on the notebook. "Yeah why." He said twiddling his thumbs.
"I didn't know you had it in you. This is amazing." I said running the pads of my fingers over the graphite writing.
"Thanks." He said bluntly. "It's getting late, we should walk back to the campus." He said as I slid him back his notebook.
"Yeah." I said standing up and throwing away my salad container and empty cup. "We should walk together. I don't want you to get kidnapped or something." He said while rolling up his hoodie sleeves and revealing the dark colors of ink etched into his skin.
"We really have no choice because we share a dorm." I said sighing and adjusting my backpack straps.
"Watch out." He said intertwining his hand with mine and quickly pulling me out of the traffic.
We were crossing a road and I wasn't quite paying attention.
"You cold?" he said smirking at me and releasing my hand from his. "No." I said embarrassed. He gave me the chills. Just by a simple gesture, he sent something off inside me that I haven't felt since the sixth grade. A small hint of feelings for someone.
~
We arrived back to the campus within 20 minutes of the small hand holding gesture.
"Hey Rowes," he said while crawling under the black comforter on his bed. "What?" I groaned tiredly."
"Goodnight." He said. As he switched off his lamp. "Goodnight." I said closing my eyes and lightly grinning.
A simple gesture from someone so complex can mean so much to a single person.

This story is going to be so long I can already tell. It might be as long as 'Mean Boys' by HemmoFanfic or 'After' by Anna Todd.
My hands are numb now bye.
