Absolute Star
Chapter 10 - Acceptance
~~~
“Finally, that’s her over and done with.”
“Don’t you think that was a little harsh? She’s probably going to hate you now,” I replied, tucking my fringe behind my ear.
“Haters gonna hate.”
“C’mon, we should get down too. Without me, Ray’s probably doing some crazy stuff.”
He nodded, and we went down all the stairs. My feet were beginning to get sore, but I carried on until we reached the hall. I was right. Ray was in her bra and knickers, dancing the hell out of herself on the stage. I immediately flushed, before stomping up the steps and dragging Ray down. I eventually found her dress, and forced it onto her. She stuck her tongue out at me, but I looked at her with eyes like steel.
Suddenly, just as I buckled up Ray’s belt, Miss Lee came storming in.
“YEAR 10!” she hollered at the top of her lungs. Everyone stopped, staring at her. I was frozen, right next to her.
“Ahem. Amy, may I ask what this is all about?” she asked me politely, but with a total death glare included.
“Er… No one could sleep so they all came down. Plus there was still some leftover food…”
What else could I bloody say??
“This party sleepover is never happening again. Ever!” she spat, turning on her heel and going back through the doors. “I’ll send Mr Baker to come and check on you later!”
As soon as she was out, everyone started talking again. Someone turned the music back on, but I pulled Ray outside.
“C’mon Ray, let’s go back to the classroom. I want to go to sleep.”
She reluctantly allowed me to carry her. We went straight up the stairs, not stopping once. My muscles were quite built up, especially my legs. In the summer holidays, me and Ammy would run about in the orchard behind my house, and the fields of corn next to it. Even before she was born, I played around with Eddie. We soon reached the classroom, and I laid Ray down on her sleeping bag. She was already asleep… that pig. Meanwhile, I switched on my mini lamp, and read for a bit, waiting for the others to come back.
They did come back, eventually. It was half past twelve, and they were sweating like animals. The room began to reek - so Tess sprayed her Charlie Red - except it made us all cough. In fact, her timing was just perfect as Mr Baker knocked on the door that exact moment. Plus, Millie was in her bra, changing into her pyjamas. Lucky her. She gasped as the door opened, and Mr Baker gasped too. He turned his back on us before saying anything.
“Just to say you should all be asleep now. It’s pretty late, plus I’m sure you have lots of plans for tomorrow,” he said with a slightly nervous tone.
“Oh yeah, I’ll be chilling out tomorrow, waiting for a teacher to come and burst in whilst I’m changing!” Millie shouted, now fully dressed.
“I’m sorry Matilda. Look - can we not discuss this? Just get in your sleeping bags and go to sleep.” He turned back round and smiled, turning the lights off. It was pitch black, but there was a slight hint of orange in places because of the street lights. “Good night,” he said.
“Good night,” we replied. He left to go back downstairs, and we all let out a big sigh of relief.
“Yep, I’m pretty sure he’s going down to shag Miss Lee! They are the same age and all…” Millie blurted out. We all laughed, but soon enough we were asleep.
~The Next Morning 07:17~
“Ray, you awake?” I groaned, turning round to face Ray, who apparently was not! She was laid on her back with her legs sticking out and her arms pushing her sleeping bag apart. She must’ve been hot last night. I didn’t feel hot, but that was probably because my sleeping bag was thin. I sighed, and checked the time. About twenty past seven. So early… must have been a habit. Since no one was awake, I took the opportunity to get changed. I slipped on some jeans, and a tee which said ‘RAINBOW NOTES’, along with musical notes. I put my knee high boots on, and literally ran to the bathroom. After going to the toilet, I looked at the mirror and applied a little bit of eye liner and mascara, and a tiny bit of lip gloss. It was sweet tasting, and that would come in handy later when I went to the White Agency. I tied my wavy hair up into a ponytail and clipped back my side fringe - just in time for people to start coming in. After a super-speedy teeth brushing, I went back to the classroom to see Hattie, Millie and Tess awake, but Ray was still in her dreamland. I shook her a couple of times, but she didn’t stir. I didn’t bother trying to wake her up, and began to pack my bag. As soon as it began to bulge, Ray woke up and yawned.
“Sleep well?” I asked sarcastically.
“Yep!” she replied sleepily. Wow, did she really not get the sarcasm in that question? I guessed when you woke up your mind wasn’t fully working, huh. By then, it was already eight-thirty. Miss Lee had didn’t tell us what to do, but she came to the classroom to tell us.
“Good morning girls. You may leave when you wish - breakfast is not included but you may eat some of yesterday’s leftover food. It is totally up to you. Oh, and Amy? Thanks for telling me what last night was all about. But I would like you to come to my office before you leave to tell me what really happened. That’s all, goodbye.”
I gritted my teeth, knowing what she would ask me. She would try to get the truth out of me, just like Umbridge in Harry Potter.
“Don’t go Amy,” Ray said, taking off her dress which she had slept in.
“I’d better, who knows what she might do. For all we know, she might even applaud us!”
~Miss Lee’s Office 08:57~
“Oh Amy. Would you like a biscuit?” Miss Lee said as I opened the door.
“No thanks.”
“Sit down then. Tell me, what were you actually doing last night?”
“Nothing really. I felt a bit hungry so Hattie suggested we go down to the hall to see what food was left. But then when all the other girls saw us, they followed, and when we got into the hall, the boys were already in there. That’s all.”
Her face had an uneasy expression. What could be wrong about that explanation?
“Well, I don’t see a problem with that - if I asked another girl student, would they say the same thing?”
I had her all figured out. This was way too easy! I had gone round to each classroom, telling everyone our plan. They all vowed to keep the promise, and if they didn’t they were no longer considered a human being.
“Yes, I’m sure if you were to ask any girl student, they would say the same thing.”
“Well - thank you Amy. You’d better get going then.”
I smirked as I walked past her, and out the door. Ray was by the wall, grinning.
“Went well!” I said, hi-fiving her. We went out of the school gates and hopped on the bus back home.
~09:27~
“Mum! I’m home!” I shouted after unlocking the front door. She was in the kitchen clearing up all the plates from last night’s dinner.
“Oh, hey honey. Have fun?”
“I guess. Ray went totally mad…”
“Ha, was it the coke?”
“Yep.”
Ray went seriously hyper after drinking normal coke. If it was just diet coke, she would be fine but normal coke was like alcohol to her. Even if she was already a really energetic person, she would get worse after drinking coke.
“What do you want for breakfast?” she asked, just as Ammy came into the kitchen, yawning. She had one of her many pretty dresses on - mum and dad bought her a new dress every three months. Because Ammy was short, she wasn’t able to reach the second rail of dresses, so dad moved the chest of drawers next to it, and built a longer wardrobe for her. Now all her dresses were in colour order, and the second rail was full of old clothes. Today, she was wearing a pastel blue one with little bows and ruffles. She had a big thing for those kind of things.
“Morning sweetheart,” mum said, ruffling Ammy’s hair. She yawned again, and sat down at the table. “What do you want?”
“Toast.”
“Amy?”
“I’ll just have a bowl of cereal.”
As we ate our breakfast, Eddie came down in a suit.
“Oh yeah, it’s your entrance exam today!” I exclaimed, remembering.
“Yep,” he replied, straightening his tie.
“It’s so stupid, why do you have to do an entrance exam just to go to your university?”
“Because A-Levels aren’t enough! They have to monitor you to check you weren’t cheating in the exam. So there’s a lot of pressure, but I’ll make it.”
“Yeah, but with all the other universities you can just go,” I replied, slurping up the last of my milk.
“God, didn’t I just tell you? Masterson University of Medicine expects very high standards! At the moment, it’s even ranked higher than Oxford and Cambridge!”
I pouted, ignoring his remarks. He munched on an apple, flicked his hair, winked at me, then left.
“Good luck hun!” mum shouted to him.
“Yes!” he replied.
“Where’s dad?” I asked.
“Oh, he’s off for work early today. Apparently he has a visitor and he has to show them around.”
I nodded, going upstairs. I brushed my teeth, and decided it was now or never to go to the White Agency. But how did I get there again? Did they have to send another car? I called them, and the reply came immediately.
“Car, ten.”
“Huh?”
But before I could say anything else, they hung up. So, was the black car coming again at ten? I got my Gucci handbag and put in it my: phone, iPod, camera, purse, pen, water bottle, make-up bag and Someday perfume (by Justin Bieber <3).
“Mum, I’m going to visit the agency today. Is that okay?” I asked mum as I went down the stairs.
“Well, it’s your Saturday! As long as you’re back before six, it’s fine. If you’re late, I’m not going to be too happy! Neither will Ammy!”
“Yeah! Let’s go to the park later!” Ammy mused, out of her sleepy trance.
“Okay then. See you later!” I waved to them before going out. I walked to the end of the road, noticing the black car hadn’t arrived yet. What time was it? 09:58. Seriously… did they actually mean 10:00 exactly? That was kinda stupid if you asked me.
Two very long minutes later, the black car appeared. I didn’t see anyone in the passenger seat, so I went straight for the back seat. This time the car was a BMW, and the windows were tinted. I put my seatbelt on, and the car drove away. Was I supposed to say something?
After what seemed like ages, we arrived at the White Agency headquarters. I was still so stunned just looking at the vastness of it. I thanked the driver, before going through the revolving doors, straight up to the reception.
“Good morning - oh, it’s Amy!” the receptionist gasped. I smiled, not sure what to do. “Just go to the top floor!”
I thanked her, going over to the lift. I pressed the up arrow, and within seconds the doors opened. I stepped in and pressed the button which said ‘30’. For some reason, it stopped at floor twenty-six, and a seriously hot guy came in.
“Sorry.”
“T-that’s okay!” I replied. He was topless, and had sand all over his feet. His skin was a golden tan colour, and he had sunglasses on. Before I could check him out any longer, we arrived at floor thirty, and we both got off.
“Could I ask what you’re name is?”
“Oh, yeah, it’s Amy.”
“You’re…. the Amy Star? Whoa, I just got on the elevator with you!”
I smiled, totally confused. Why did everyone know me?
“What about you? What’s your name?” I asked with a sly tone.
“Peter. I don’t have a surname - but my real name is Joseph.”
“I see. Well… do you by any chance know where I’m going?” He nodded, pointing at an office reading: ROSALIND - MANAGER/BOSS.
“Oh right, okay.”
So I was planning to see Rosalind? What about Peter/Joseph? I knocked on the door, with Peter still next to me.
“Are you seeing her too?” I asked.
“Yeah.”
As soon as he replied, a man in a black suit answered the door.
“You’re names are…”
“Peter and Amy,” Peter replied. I was about to say my name, but stopped myself, thank goodness. In just about a second, Rosalind was at the door with designer sunglasses on. She was wearing a red dress that went down to her feet, which wore some stunning red heels. She had white gloves on, along with a white shawl. Her hair was in a bun, as usual.
“Ah, you came Amy. Peter, could you wait on the sofa whilst I speak with her? Thanks.”
I followed her into a room. Was this where she lived? It was huge - there were at least seven rooms and I was sure that some of them were offices. But it turned out she only had one office - and the rest were storage rooms with hundreds and hundreds of files in them. She also had a room especially for clothes, and of course, a bedroom.
“Sit down please. Thank you for visiting us again. Do you like it here?” she asked, sipping on her little teacup which was full of Jasmine tea.
“Yes, it’s quite nice.”
“So, would you like to become a teen idol? I’m sure people would love you!”
“Well I discussed it with my parents, and they seem to think it’s okay.”
“Brilliant. Well, we’ll have your accommodation sorted out after your audition, and once you’re accepted.”
“What do you mean, accommodation?! And mostly - audition?” I exclaimed. She smiled softly, taking another sip.
“Well you’ll have no time at all to go home to sleep. You’ll probably only see them every now and then. Remember, they can always come and visit you.”
I sighed. It was obvious mum wouldn’t agree to this…
“I’ll do the audition, but I’m not sure about the accommodation.”
“Great. Well, come with me. I’ll take you to the audition room.
