It's 4am. Back at Baker Street, Basil is the only one awake; at least he thought he was. He sat at the desk with all the chemistry equipment aside him, investigating the picture Olivia found of her father being kidnapped. He tried to match the finger prints of whom it was that took the picture, to find out who has Olivia's father. He studied it, closely with a magnifying glass. He found smudges on the bottom right hand corner of the picture, but he couldn't tell if they were finger prints or not.

He held the picture in front of the Bunsen burner, and then places the ashes of the paper into the bowl. He then poured it into a beaker, filled with distilled water. He then poured a drop of crude oil into the bowl. It began a small fire, that faded. Basil coughed, and tried to spread the smoke away with a cough.

Just at that moment, he heard someone screaming upstairs. Olivia was screaming her sleep. He turned towards upstairs. It was only him and Miss Kitty, however, she was a very heavy sleeper. He ran upstairs, panicking. Was there something in Olivia's room?

He entered Olivia's room to see she was only having a nightmare. She was fidgeting a lot whilst at it. Basil turned on the bed side light.

"Olivia! Olivia!" Basil called out to her, as he tried to wake her up by nudging her shoulders.

She woke up, screaming and stopped when she saw Basil.

"It's OK. You're were only dreaming." He rubbed her shoulder to try and calm her down.

"I'm sorry." She said, panting heavily.

Basil pulled her close for a hug, and he rubbed her back to help even more.

"I keep seeing him, Basil." She stated, starting to cry. "Ratigan."

"Olivia, listen," Basil interrupted her, "I don't have defined proof who has your father, or anybody, please bare with me." He wiped a tear from her face.

She nodded.

He looked at her, feeling sympathetic.

"I've been having dreams like this for a while. It all started about 2 years ago." She said, struggling to talk with her crying voice.

He placed his hand on her shoulder.

"Olivia, look into my eyes." So she did. Basil placed his hand on his heart. "I promise you, if he is still alive, I will not let him hurt your father, nor you."

His emerald eyes were like hypnosis to her. He smiled at her.

"Do you trust me?"

"Of course." Olivia smiled and stopped crying.

"Sorry to leave you-" Basil apologized, "but it appears as I have a previous engagement with an investigation."

He stood up and walked out. Olivia watched him.

"Basil?"

He turned around.

"Thank you so much for doing all this for me."

He smiled.

"I told you, I would help you if you ever needed my help again. I don't make empty promises. Whether it was a few minutes ago, or ten years ago."

Olivia laughed.

"Wow. It's been that long?"

"Yes..."

There was a long silence.

"If you need me at all, I'll be downstairs." Basil finally said, as he half shut the door and handed downstairs.

Olivia sunk into her bed. At that moment, she smiled. She didn't know whether it was love or lust. But she did know she was gaining some feelings for Basil. At first she thought it was only because he is her hero, but now she is staying with him until he helps her father, she's getting to know him a lot better.

Half an hour later, Basil is reading the newspaper, in his big red chair, to see if he could find any suspicious articles. He came across an article that read:

The London Mouse

Strange figure captures two innocent mice.

Just then, he heard the door from upstairs move. He turned around to see Olivia, in nothing but a nightie.

"Sorry, I-" she was embarrassed, "didn't mean to startle you." She assured as she covered herself up more with her arms.

"It's OK..." he didn't really know what to say. He couldn't believe she came down and was just wearing that. He was trying to not to get lured into temptation, but it was no use. Basil couldn't help but admire her beauty. Her being all natural, and her amazing figure. He tried to keep a low profile about him staring.

"I can't sleep." She said, walking down the stairs, slowly.

Basil didn't respond. He was just fixed staring at her figure, and then he turned to her face.

There was an awkward silence between them. She stood, diagonally in front of him, with one foot in front of the other.

"Basil... I'm too scared I have another nightmare." She stated, pitifully. "Can I please stay up with you?"

"Olivia, it's 4:30 in the morning..." pointed out Basil.

She looked at the clock, surprised.

She used sad eyes against him, to try and pressure him into saying yes.

He scoffed. "OK."

She smiled and then took a seat in the green chair.

"Is that chair yours now?" He asked, cheekily.

"I have used it a lot since I've been here, I must admit."

Basil turned back to reading the newspaper.

"I just found something arcane here; Strange figure captures two innocent mice."

"Two?" Olivia asked, confused.

"Yeah, look." Basil pointed to the article, as Olivia came over to have a closer look of the article.

Basil got his magnifying glass and held it over the weird figure, in the corner of the picture. The figure looked like a peg-legged bat.

"Aha!" Basil yelled, triumphantly.

"Old Mounty Place... 6:30pm..." Olivia copied the newspaper on where it happened. "That's my neighbourhood and the time I got home last night." She looked like she was going to spew.

"Did you see anything happen outside your house?"

"No, I didn't." She replied, shaking her head. "I just remember everything going off. Apart from the telephone."

Basil's face brightened.

"I beg your pardon?"

Olivia, looked at Basil. hoping he would know, after all the dots connected.

"What did they say to you?"

Olivia departed, trying to remember.

"He said, something about us finishing business together, and this time him receiving the victory."

Basil got up, and walked over to the desk to get his pipe. Olivia followed him. He took a stick, and flicked it down the wall to catch a light. He began to smoke it.

"Keep going."

"Earlier that day, my lecturer at university said something about certain things will slip from your paws- the same thing the person said to me on the phone."

Basil choked on his pipe.

"Are you sure that was Ratigan?"

"I'm positive."

"Because if you're correct, than that means Ratigan was in your neighbour that evening, and kidnapped your father whilst you were out."

"But who else would they have taken?"

"If all the incumbency started once you got into your house, and knowing Ratigan, the last mouse you were with."

Olivia's face turned to fear.

"Fievel." She squeaked.

"Come again?" Basil asked confused.

"He's my best friend."

Basil turned away, making a relieved face she couldn't see. She looked at him, only thinking he was trying to figure out why he had taken both her father and Fievel.

"What do you propose?" She asked, desperate for an answer.

Basil turned back to her.

"Ratigan has probably been in hiding for ten years, since that fight on Big Ben." He quivered at the thought of it. The pain, the agony Basil had went through; being beaten to an inch of his life.

"I could be wrong, but he might have a new lair. Unless that's what he wants me to think."

"Maybe we should go back to his old lair. There might be a clue there."

"Excuse me!" Basil inter-vented. "What do you mean we? I'll go and I alone." He stormed past her, to get his detective coat and hat.

"Basil, please! I'm not 8 years old anymore!" She protested.

"Don't argue with me, Olivia!" He fastened up his jacket.

"Basil, if I handled him then, I can handle him now!"

He ran towards her and grabbed both her shoulders. Basil opened his mouth, nothing came out. He sighed.

"Listen," he turned soft, "I can't lose you again." He let go of her, dropping his head.

"What do you mean?"

"When you were kidnapped, I just degenerated. The thought of what would of happened if I wasn't there, in the clock tower, or coming after you and him... I almost lost you." He frowned.

Olivia looked at him, sympathetically. She placed a hand on the side of this face, as she did, his head raised.

"I never knew you cared so much." She admitted.

Basil sort of blushed. Olivia took her hand from his face.

"You don't have to worry about me, Basil. You'll never lose me. Even when I'm in danger, I know you'll save me."

"Yes..." Basil knew too well, she had no idea what he really meant. Ten years ago, he loved her as a little sister; recently he is feeling something new. He thought, at first he was being stupid, but you can't chose who you fall in love with. He knew, straight at that moment, he was growing unconditionally in love with her. The great mouse detective, doesn't do love; at least he tried to tell himself.

"Please let me come with you. For old times sake."

Basil sighed.

"OK."

Olivia smiled.

"But please don't wonder off, anything could be lurking behind every corner."

Olivia squealed with happiness and ran towards the front door, to the coat wrack.

"Let's go get Toby!"

Basil walked towards her, awkwardly. He was about to drop a bomb shell on her.

"I have some dire news about old Toby chap- he became decrepit and passed away."

Olivia's heart fell and smashed to pieces.

"I'm sorry, Olivia." He patted her shoulders, feeling condoled for her. "We'll have to catch a cab. Come along. If you're coming at all, come now. There's not a moment to lose." He opened the door, and strolled out.

Olivia followed him, sorrowfully.

On the pavement of Baker Street, they waited for a cab to pull up and they both hoped on and sat on the step, that the humans use to climb into the cab.

The car drove off, heading for the water front.
