Note: This story is taking place in both the HeartGold and SoulSilver universes which means both Legendaries will be encountered.

I do not know the true personalities of some characters like Kotone/Lyra, Ethan/Hibiki, etc. Their personalities will be predicted from the resources in the game, anime, and info source(s). Their Pokémon teams are decided by info sources and the experience of gameplay from my brother and myself.

Fonts that are darkened represents Author Notes and whose P.O.V it is. Italics are used on the main flashbacks or recaps of the past and any reading from engraved materials(wood, stone, pages, etc)

Once we arrived at Blackthorn City, the first place Silver and I went to was the Pokémon Center. While we waited for our Pokémon, I asked Silver about the stone Gastly was holding. He told me it was an Everstone, but didn't say anything else.

"Trauma, perhaps? At first, I wanted to use Gastly for strength, once he evolves into his final form; however, the more I stare at Gastly, the more I began seeing someone I didn't want to see."

"Someone you didn't want to see?" I questioned.

From the way he said that, I wondered if the person he was referring to was someone Silver knew. Was it another rival he had before losing his memories? No matter who they were, Silver didn't like talking about them. However, I couldn't help but be curious about who they were.

That being said, I didn't want to put Silver in an uncomfortable position. When I turned towards him, I noticed Silver staring at the ground, arms folded and his back leaned against the wall. His eyebrows furrowed for a minute, as his mind was deep in thought.

I took some time to recall the events that happened so far. Wasn't this supposed to be a regular, harmless adventure? Why did this all happen? I didn't know the answer, but I began wondering about what I had done to deserve all this.

The only positive in this journey was that it's the reason how I met Silver and how I became closer to someone other than Ethan—oh... Ethan... I remembered how protective he was towards me back then. We were the same age, but he seemed more of an adult—well in most cases anyway.

There was something about him I had wondered: why was he holding back?

I remembered the time a classmate made fun of me and Ethan wasn't in the mood to sit down and watch. Although I felt sorry for the poor classmate, I wondered why Ethan resorted to brute force to solve the issue. Though it did solve the problem, I wished he solved it more civilly.

However, he knew Silver was pushing me around, yet all he did was glare. Was it because of the punishment he received after he hurt the other kid, or was it really because he was holding back? I wasn't a kid anymore, so I was alright with most things; of course, that didn't make me an adult.

After a few minutes of silence, Sneasel and Marill headed towards us in a hastily matter, both holding a group of Pokéballs together.

"I'm happy to inform you that your Pokémon are feeling much better," Nurse Joy informed us with a smile on her face.

"Thank you so much, Nurse Joy," I thanked her on behalf of Silver and myself.

Nurse Joy nodded once before proceeding back to the back room. I took the four Pokéballs Marill had in her hands and the two balancing on her round tail and stashed them in my bag. Silver grabbed the ones Sneasel was holding and placed them in his pockets, with the Ice Pokémon climbing onto Silver's shoulder afterward.

After we left the Pokémon Center, I grabbed Silver hand and took him somewhere away from the crowd of people. I brought us near a large lake, where there's a cave in the shape of a dragon's head, in the middle of the body of water.

I grabbed one of Silver's Pokéballs—Feraligatr's, to be exact—and tossed it into the air. Feraligatr appeared and landed in the water in front of us, while Marill jumped in to accompany him. At first, I wanted to take the opportunity to ask Silver about his deep thought back in the Pokémon Center. However, I decided against that, knowing Silver would've told me if he wanted to.

Instead, I asked him about the Everstone. He elaborated that the Everstone prevents a Pokémon from evolving, which is useful in certain cases, such as if you want to keep the Pokémon as it is or to learn moves faster.

"But you wanted your Pokémon to be stronger—not saying I encourage it—and that Pokémon grow stronger after evolution... So why would you give Gastly that Everstone?" I questioned.

"Like I said, trauma. Just like the time I brought you back to the Burned Tower after we defeated Chuck, I hoped the regularly frequent sight of Gastly will calm my nerves. Staring at Morty's Gastlys didn't do much for me."

"Well I want to know what your trauma was; that's why I brought you here. You're suffering—It may not be obvious but you are! I know you don't express your thoughts that often, but I want to help."

Silver sighed and ran his hand through his red hair.

"You say that as if I'm weak."

"That's not what I meant."

"I know..." Silver chuckled. "You're the first person I had shared my thoughts to, from the beginning of when I lost my memories. Aren't you honoured to have that privilege?"

I rolled my eyes. "Yeah sure."

"But I can't explain what the trauma was... Do you remember the time I fainted before we reached Olivine City?"

I nodded, recalling the time he blanked out while staring at the trees. When I asked him what happened, he shrugged it off without much regard. I also wanted him to trust me... I felt that after all the things we've been through, he would be able to trust me on things, even if they're small.

"You wanted to know what happened... I thought Celebi was hiding behind the trees, and I saw strange images before my eyes afterward..."

"Celebi?" I questioned.

"It's a time-travelling Pokémon, kind of appears like a green fairy-like creature. It's also not a common Pokémon you can just find randomly in the wild. I saw things I felt I shouldn't be seeing... I saw a Masked Man and the sight of him made me sick."

So he saw a Masked Man... they didn't sound like a good person. I wondered if he saw another person—or people too. So something about Gastly made him think of the Masked Man? That didn't sound right, but I had an idea of a possible reason.

"Was one of his Pokémon a Gastly?" I asked.

"Most likely. Before we battled the Gym, I remembered being in a place like Ilex Forest. Celebi was there too... I also saw the girl who saved me back then. However, I saw her battling that Gastly and it didn't look like a regular battle..."

"So was he hiding out of sight or something?"

Silver sighed—he didn't exasperated and it had a calm, relieving tone—as he placed his hand on my head.

"Stop asking too many questions. Did you forget about my amnesia, how I could only recall a few things while the rest are simply blurry and unreadable?"

I was fully aware of that, but I felt selfish. I wanted to know what he was thinking. Keeping it to himself wouldn't help him at all. It'll keep creating itself into a manifestation which would then become a burden; that's where I was drawing the line.

I didn't want him to hold onto burdens while I was there to help.

Silver wasn't a bad person, but I guess he wouldn't be considered a good guy either, from other people's perspectives. To me, Silver was my friend—wait... oh yeah... we kissed...

The thought caused me to blush. Whenever I recall that incident, I couldn't help but turn red over the fact that I did what I had done in the past.

"What's wrong this time? Or is it a fever again?" Silver questioned, ruffing my hair a bit below my hat.

I couldn't tell him that I was thinking about the time we kissed... I shouldn't have done that unless I love him... so do I? My thoughts of who Silver was to me kept changing the longer I'm with him.

I'm confused... I saw Silver as a friend—a close friend, but not as close as Ethan was to me—but friends don't just kiss... Wouldn't it be awkward?

"It's... nothing. Don't worry about it," I replied.

"You look like an apple, so do stop turning more redder than you already are. You're just trying to worry me, aren't you? Or is it something else? Are you thinking about someone else? Let me guess: Ethan."

Well, he was not wrong, but I doubt he wasn't oblivious to the fact I'm blushing because of the one time we kissed. I'm sure he knew, but he didn't seem to have any desires to tease me—at least, from what I could tell.

Silver interrupted my thoughts by continuously rustling my hair.

"There... Will that stop you from blushing? Or..."

His hand moved down to my shoulder and pulled me to his chest, as his other arm secured the embrace.

"Will this comfort you? I can't tell you everything, but I'm sure I will one day; it's just not now. You should stop thinking about me and think for yourself. Once we separate, you'll have to make your own decisions, the ones you believe will help you survive this fate. If you wish to seek me, come find me in the shadows."
