I walked through the quiet forest.
A breeze rustling through my wavy hair.
I could hear the crunch of dried leaves under my feet with each step I took.
I could smell the moist soil from a storm that passed through the night prior.
I paused to take in the subtle sounds of the forest; the soft pitter patter of droplets falling from branches landing on the bed on leaves.
The wind changed direction and I took a deep breath of the damp air, a sour scent mixing with freshness.
I turned my head, a faint shuffling of heavy feet against the ground coming closer.
I calmly walked towards it, the wind becoming stronger.
I saw a figure walking towards me, a limp in their step.
I stopped in place when they were close enough to properly see.
They continued a few more steps before looking up, fear in their eyes.
They held their side, tears staining their pale cheeks.
They looked down again, their breaths uneven and heavy.
“Please… Make it quick,” they whispered.
I nodded, pulling out a gun and without hesitation pulled the trigger.
A loud gunshot rang out before a silence filled the air.
I put my gun away before turning away and continuing my journey through the quiet forest.
