Kaito's POV
I didn't want Maki to be accused. I didn't want Kokichi to die. I didn't want to die.
Every solution ended in death.
Life and death was separated by such a fuzzy line that it hurt.
However now, I was forced to do this. Kokichi lay shirtless on the hydraulic press.
"I am damaged. Really damaged. But..." he hesitated. "You're not beyond repair."
He closed his eyes and trembled from the pain of the poison.
Oh no, this shit wasn't fair.
He gave me a pained yet reassuring grin. "Stick around here. Make things... better. 'Cuz you beat me fair and square."
My hand quivered above the large red button as Kokichi continued. I didn't look at him, but I could feel his smile. He wheezed his signature laugh.
"Please stand back now."
I edged away.
"Little further."
A step more, my hand as light as a feather, my conscience heavy with regret.
"Don't know what this thing would do."
My heart skipped a beat.
"Hope you miss me."
Pause. Hesitation.
"Wish you'd kiss me, then you'd know I worship you..."
I paled. I couldn't kill him. Not even for Maki. He brought me so much intrigue, so much laughter... I just couldn't.
"I'll trade my life for yours."
I choked back a sob. "Oh my God!"
"And once I disappear..."
"Wait, hold on!"
"Clean up the mess down here..."
"Not this way!"
I dared to swipe a glance at him. He was in so much pain. I could just put him out of his misery. No, there had to be another antidote... If I was quick, I could—
"Our love is God."
Dread.

Fear.

Regret.

Denial. Loathing. Pain. Grief.
Tears flooded from my eyes. I choked my words out.
"Say 'hi' to God."
My hand pressed down on the button quickly and watched as my lover became nothing more than a pool of blood.
Maki screamed from the bathroom window.
"Kaito! Kaito! I found another antidote!"
I turned around, revealing my pained expression.
"Oh my God, you look like Hell."
I paused, turning to the bloody mess.
"I just got back."
