steve didn't like to admit it, but he hated rainstorms.
don't get him wrong—he loved rainy days and being lazy around the avengers tower, but when the rain got heavy, he started to get uncomfortable by it.
it was mostly the loud noise, and the occasional power outages.
one night, he was alone in the lounging area of the tower, on the floor that was open to all avengers. he was watching some movie tony had recommended, and due to not sleeping properly, he decided to watch it.
it was raining that night, the droplets taping quietly against the bulletproof windows. but once midnight hit, the rain grew into a storm, now batting against the window. steve began to writhe in his spot, getting irritated by the noise.
trying his best to ignore it and tune it out, he continued on with the movie. happy that the credits began to roll; cueing him to go back to bed, he reached for the tv remote.
suddenly, it went pitch black. steve froze in his position, afraid to move.
slowly leaning back on the couch, he physically jumped when a clap of lightning momentarily lit up the room, followed by a deep roll of thunder.
sudden flashes of the second world war ran through his mind, kicking him into panic mode. he stood to his feet, thankful the power went back on. he shuffled his way to the elevator, whispering to friday to take him to your quarters.
he barely made it, forgetting to knock and entering your bedroom. finding you on the right side of the bed, he dove under the heavy blanket you always used. this action was enough to wake you, and you weren't surprised to find your boyfriend by your side.
when you noticed him shaking, and the rainstorm outside, you didn't have to ask what was wrong. he turned away from you and you scooted closer to him, spooning him from behind while holding him tight.
you gently combed your fingers through his hair, soothing him to sleep.
❝it's okay, steve. i'm here. i'm not going anywhere.❞

i couldn't find the right gif to fit this,
so just imagine a scared steve :(
