When I wake up I quickly take a bath wearing my black ripped jeans and black top and blue jean jacket, I put on my white sneakers before blow drying my hair and braiding it in two places.
When am done, I grab the plates of cookies before heading outside, I know eating and walking is bad, am at the end of the stairs when I hear Lara coming from behind me
Hey wait up!!!
I smile hey Lara
She produces a small smile but says nothing
So I really know nothing about you, and you're going to work for the-"
It's okay I know am Lara Cordell, am 21, and am from London that's all she shrugs her shoulders
Wow okay that's simple, any family members?
No she shook her head I don't know who my father is and my mother is dead she says monotonously
I shook my head, I lost my parents and my 3 siblings in a week
Her eyes go wide, and you smile all the time?
I learnt that I had to move on I shrug my shoulders, it was a dark time for me, you won't believe the things I did before I was knocked back into my senses when my boyfriend broke up with me
Is that why you came all the way to London
I shrug my shoulders looking at the petite brunette by my side some part of the reason
She sighs but says nothing I bring up the container care for a cookie?
She gives a little smile before grabbing one.
I do the same and we walk all the way in silence just chewing on our cookies.
When we get to the store we walk in through the front and I leave the door open, I tie my pink apron around my waist and Lara does the same but hers is in a brown color.
So what do we do she ask?
I throw a rag to her you should start cleaning, Andrea should be here soon I have to go start on the baking, we have a lot to cover I point to the chalk board with all the foods we wrote on it
She chuckles, its bad I can't even bake or cook
But you're a magician with tea and coffee so you're clear I say leaving her with a small smile I head to the kitchen and start with the cakes since those are the simple things I could do, Rosie gets to mix them up the way she does cause she has this crazy ideas
Soon Andrea joins me quietly we work around each other efficiently he starts with some cupcakes while I start up with all the type of cookies imaginable, soon Rosie joins us with a good morning she starts with the croissants and soon were moving things to the glass case, we don't do much since its just the first day and I am glad.
I flip the open sign and wait in the kitchen, cleaning up everything, not more than 20 minutes I hear the door ding and I perk up, I hear Lara talking politely with a man that sounds older and I bit back a smile when he orders a sandwich and a vanilla cappuccino, I hear the register sound and am quite happy.
When am sure he's no longer there I walk out and see that the particular man is an old man in a suite with a laptop in one of the booths he seems to like the food when he finally leaves leaving a tip on the table
I smile wow our first cos-" before I finish my sentence I watch as a group of boys 3 and 2 girls head inside they walk to a booth before one of them stand up and come over to the counter where Lara and i are smiling from ear to ear
We'll like a cup of lemon tea and 2 chocolate cupcakes he points to the disastrous design I made with different toppings which he laughs quietly at, a plate of tuna sandwich and 2 slice of red velvet cake oh and also he points to the chalk board 3 cups of vanilla milkshake and one strawberry he recites like we got one thing
We just nod dazed we'll get that in 10 minutes
He smiles before moving to the booth where they are all talking animatedly with each other
I turn to Lara with wide eyes did you get that
She laughs I got 2 lemon tea and 2 chocolate cup cakes she grabs a try grabbing two small plates she places the 2 cup cakes on the plates, get the rest and I'll start with the tea
I nod dazed before grabbing another plate for the tuna sandwich and I slice the red velvet cake expertly I grab two plates and place them in a tray, I start on the strawberry milkshake while Lara does the vanilla when am done I grab 2 cups of the milkshake and head to the table, I place the cups on the tray and Lara carries the tea carefully with the tea cup on a tray along with the other tray for the foods she places them and turn back around I grab the two last milkshake and make it to their table, where they are silently eating.
I clear my throat when I reach them, with a smile, hey guys you know we just opened and we want to know what you guys think when you're done, your opinion matters
The red haired girl in the group smiles I like the chocolate cupcake even though the design is crazy its cute she shrugs
I laugh, guilty as charged thank you
She nods and I make my way back to the counter I almost squeal but I just smile at Lara eyes wide.
She smiles cheekily at me, we wait then they pay and leave.
We don't get anymore people after that till its noon and my eyes go wide when people come it one by one, we get too busy that Andrea had to come out to help.
By the time its 3pm we close up shop and everything we baked is finished. And am freaking tired at least we know when the rush starts.
Wow that was awesome Rosie says, I've not felt that rush since 5 years ago
I chuckle, that was good I head to the cash register time to count our earning
Everyone disappears to cleaning and washing the dishes and Rosie and Johnny heads upstairs to their house wow I guess they trust me.
I grab everything and sit on the floor, when am done counting everything, when am done it zeroes on £1400, minus water and light bills I smile and decide I'll pay Andrea and Lara weekly I can start paying myself in the next 3 weeks since I have enough for myself right now well more than enough. And plus I decided to pay 6 months for my rent so I have nothing to worry about now.
I make my way to the kitchen where both Andrea and Lara are talking and I break the news to them, Lara nods and leaves for her second job while I discuss with Andrea about trying the restaurant tonight
I thought Rosie and Johnny said you should hold back
I nod I thought so too, but I just want to try it once, if it actually works then we will just have to work out and hire another waitress or waiter for just evening services
That is a good idea, but what if we actually work out and we need the extra hands.
I shrug my shoulders we could manage its not like it will be a full house.

I was wrong it is a full house, fuck I say when something like hot water splashes my arm but I know its not hot water, I rush to my phone and call Simon and he gladly comes over to help, its like this people enjoy new things, I never expected all the sits to be filled that I had to send some people back because we were filled, and of course when someone leaves the table is occupied immediately, its 9pm when we finally close down and we get people to finally leave
Woah, maybe we should hire 2 extra hands I tell Andrea and Simon while we lounge on the floor absolutely tired
Or you could get Lara full time and hire an extra person
I nod, I hope Lara can leave her other job or we are doomed
Andrea chuckles standing up, as much as I love cooking I think I'll need an extra hand apart from old Rosie
Hey am not that old Rosie complains from across us in a booth
You bent down to grab a box and you could not stand up till Johnny and I helped you
She chuckles, I'm getting old aren't I?
I laugh shaking my head and you and Johnny shouldn't stress yourself like that, that's why am here, I say standing up grabbing a rag ready to start cleaning up the tables and dropping the chairs on the table
Simon joins me
I have to go Andrea says
I nod you can go, there's not much work remaining just the plates and the cups and the pans and the pots
He chuckles, I got it, I got it
I smile cheekily at him seriously you can leave plus your time is up
He nods and leaves through the front doors, Rosie and Johnny climb upstairs to their house and Simon and I work quietly with each other, soon we are done with everything and Simon offers to help take me home which I accept because am spent.
When I get home I tell him goodbye and go straight to bed since we all had dinner before closing up.
