Peeta POV
I open my eyes ato see a bright light and a shadow. Everything hurts, pain spreads through my body as I try to sit up.
"Peeta?" I hear a very faint voice say. As my vision becomes clearer I see her. My angel. Katniss. "Hey, your awake."
"What?" I say but I can't heart out of my right ear. "Where am I?"
"In the hospital." she says. I look around and see machines, another bed, a chair and table. I raise my hand to my ear but nothing's there. I start to panic. "Hey, calm down!"
"What happened?" I ask.
"Gale wanted to shoot you and almost did but I pushed him and he only hit your ear." she says.
"Why'd you help me?" I ask.
"Because I can't see you die." she says. Than the door opens and my parents rush in.
"Katniss?" mom says confused.
"Hi Mrs. Mellark." she says standing up.
"What are you doing here? I haven't seen you in years." mom says walking over to me.
"She helped me mom." I say. She nods and sits down.
"Well, I should go. Hope you get better Peeta." Katniss says before leaving. I sigh and look down.
"Whats wrong cupcake?" mom says running her hand through my hair.
"Nothing, just sore." I say. "Do I still have an ear?"
"Yes you do. Its just covered to heal." a doctor says walking in. "You might not hear anything for a while but your hearing should come back within a few days."
"Okay and whats with who did this?" dad asks.
"Well, the police are looking for a Gale Hawthorne. Katniss told us it was him." he says. Why would Katniss rat out her own boyfriend?
"Alright, well when can he go home?" mom asks.
"In a few days. I want to keep him here so I can watch for signs of infection." he says.
"Can we stay here?" dad asks.
"I'm sorry but I can't allow that." he says. They nod and stand up.
"You'll be okay cupcake, we'll be here tomorrow." mom says kissing my forehead. Dad pats my should before both leave.
"Okay Peeta, I'm gonna check your ear." he says walking to my right side. "I'm gonna take the bandage off." he pulls at the bandage carefully but its stuck to my hair and hurts. "Hold very still." so I do so and the bandage comes off.
"Is it bad?" I ask.
"No, there's a hole at the edge of your that will leave a scar." he says. "And theres a light infection."
"But will it heal, right?" I ask.
"Of course, you'll be fine." he says. "I'm gonna put some anti infection cream on it and a new bandage." I nod as he does everything. "Alright, get some rest."
"Okay." I say. He leaves the room and I close my eyes. Well, things only get worse for me I guess.
