Comfort, relief, rest, it beckons me,
kind and large and blue.
Sitting there by the window,
filling up the room’s empty corner.
Come watch the sky, come watch the birds,
it seems to say.
The light hitting its plush cushions just so,
I am urged to view the sunset.

It looks as if it were molded by clay-
where you press your thumb in
the delicate substance,
leaving the perfect dent.
I am sure it could eat me up,
if it wanted to.
Swallow me in one gulp,
I’d be gone.
“Where’d she go?” They’d ask,
but to no purpose,
for the monster
had gobbled
me whole.
