Woke up at six this morning
Did the same thing yesterday
As I put on my shoes preparing
Wonder if it will the same today?
Same old path I walked yesterday
Same old clouds of a dull, pale gray
With church bells ringing the same way
I knew it would be the same today
Today I sat on the same old chair
It's leather still with the same old tear
During my break, around I stare
My yesterday is still everywhere
Folks often ask me why am I unhappy
I get what I want, have rarely a worry
I keep wondering why they cannot see
This isn't who I am, or who I want to be
I want to spread my wings, spread them wide
To saddle the wind for an endless ride
And row down a river, a sea or a stream
Far to the place where I'll find my dream
I want to climb mountains, climb them high
Till I reach their peaks where earth meets sky
And slide down a rainbow as in tales of old
And find on the end a pot of gold
I want to go aboard and sail a ship
Far to the shores where I will seek
And worn from travel I'll till the lands
Where dreams don't die from wicked hands
I want to wear a dress of pink and frills
And strap on my feet some lovely heels
And dance at a ball with kings and queens
And find in the gardens a waiting prince
Headed for home this evening
Stopped by the store on my way
The same women still gossipping
Of the same gossip yesterday
Hitting my bed for the morning
I clasped my hands and pray
"Lord, let it be better tomorrow
Different from yesterday."
