Happiness is unlimited when you feel it but, we can measure the sadness we feel in our hearts.
It is my last day in this camp, I am in my cabin , curtains covering the soaring sun and letting my thoughts cover my mind like a blanket. I have been stuck in this camp for almost a month but I won't be anymore. This camp for me was a break from the things occurring in my world, my home. The camp had been welcoming to me it had also enhanced my skills in arts but my family had been a distraction to me in this break. They are someone who have an irreplaceable part in my life even though there had many outbreaks between us, many unspoken rules, outraging, some rivalry and blacken past.
Sam must be having fun with the others in in Yorkshire and obviously must be flaunting his usual cocky attitude. Sometimes I wonder if my twin has matured or is the same old Sammy who made comments on cartoon and movies and name each other nicknames based on the cartoons character. Our favorite cartoon while growing up was Ben ten, we naming each other the characters and acting like them. Him being Ben and me being Gwen. We even used to in act some scenes like him using the watch to convert his avatar and me using spells like Gwen.
"ASHRINA!!!!!!!" I heard Alex my roommate scream out her lungs and coming out of the bathroom. She had become red with fury; towel was wrapped around her body covering her body her which was beading with water and her blond hair had turned into bright neon green due to dye I had put in her shampoo. I smirked with satisfaction and returned to book which I had been trying to read for the past hour. Her scream had made my other roommate and a close friend of mine, Raya to abandon her sleep and grumpily awake.
Then at the same time another scream arose from the neighboring cabin and following by another scream by the opposite cabin. I smirked with happiness and the smirk getting wider at every passing second and at every scream from the other cabins.
"What did you do now?" Raya asked me with demanding tone. I just smiled to her innocently
"I may or may not have pranked almost five to ten cabins consisting of people I despised or gave a hard time or let's just say made me waste my and their time by talking, fighting and bitching." I completed and looked at Alex with my most innocent green eyes and sly grin playing on my lips.
"you little... you sure are going to receive the consequences of this little freaking prank." She snarled with pure anger dripping in her voice. I just shrugged and returned to my book. I had almost pranked ten cabins containing fake people like Alex and who were getting on my nerves and this was also a kind of pass for me to get out of this camp which was going to end after two weeks and me being the stubborn and impatient to meet others made this plan. I had created traps in many cabins, made shoe mountain, garbage can prank, dye prank, put etching powder in people's clothes, filled cabin with insects, snake and other creature and did some of the other harmless pranks.
Alex got dressed and walked out of the door probably went to the counselor, Daniel. Raya slid beside me.
"wow you have really created a great reputation here. So, how did you even did that in such less time? "I was about to reply when she cuts me off
"Don't reply. You are probably going to quote'life is short smile till you still have teeth. Oh and by the way I must complete my fuck list than bucket' right?" I smiled knowingly and nodded
"do you really want to get out of here so bad?" she asked with sad voice.
"I don't want to get to out of here, I need to get out of here before my adrenaline would rush with impatience's and anger." With a smile and memories of people waiting back for me to return.
"And these plastics were any ways giving me a headache so it was like killing two aims with one arrow." Raya nodded and the door opened with a bang and Daniel stood there like a bomb ready to explode at any minute and some girls behind him in a mess due to the pranks and some were there to be part of this fight. Alex was standing beside Daniel with proudness in her smile. Like I cared.
"would you like to explain yourself miss Cruz?" Daniel asked with annoyance in his voice lurking. This hasn't been anything new to Daniel as past month I had made ruckus in this camp and earned a great reputation here in this camp. I had broken out of the camp many times, pranked many people, got into cat fights with many of the plastics and created commotions. But I knew many people still liked me because unlike those bees I would always act by staying true to my character and be myself unlike those girls, they even admired my confidence, my wit and how I stood up against them without flinching and acting bored, they also like my fun part which made their day and a life with many wonderful memories. For me life is a race live the moment till it lasts and be always true to yourself and the others who are part of your life.
"Why don't we make it short Dan huh? The fast the better, right? You will throw me out of this camp and continue a very silent camp without the miss fun present here and I will get to be free from this freaking camp. So, what do you say?" I said with a bored tone and called him Dan to anger him purposely.
Daniel sighed deeply and I smirked standing in front of him with my arms folded.
"Pack your bag and come to the office in fifteen minutes." He left while I did a mentally happy dance. The girls backed out and started proceeding to their cabins satisfied and relief flooding over them that the threat was leaving and some were sad because the sunshine of their camp was leaving. Alex though was not satisfied with the punishment but didn't retorted back and left the cabin. Raya helped me pack and when we were all set we hugged and said our goodbyes. I smiled and waved back at her and went to Daniel's office.
His office was a mess. Papers were filled on his desk and the walls were decorated by pictures of the past campers. He was sitting and motioned me to join him.
"Geez kid I knew you wanted to go out of here but were you that impatient? and I told you to not call me Dan in front of them."
"Oh come on Danny I know how much you love that nickname." I smiled at him amusingly. Dan was a good friend of my mom and used to attend our family meets often so we were kind of close. I knew he hated when I called him Danny but I love his annoyed face so I continued to do so.
He rolled his eyes and continued, "So I called your mum and you are leaving today to Yorkshire after we finish talking," I threw my hands in air with happiness and thanking god.
"So how did you do all those pranks in such a small amount of time?" I smirked and told him that 'I have my ways' at which he rolled his eyes.
My phone ringed with one direction's you and I playing. I saw the caller id and instantly smiled at the id and picked up the phone.
"Hey twiny!" I swear I could feel him rolling his eyes and his face forming a grin, it had been a while since I and Sam talked. I heard Dan mumble about why does she need to add -Y to all thing.
"Hey so I heard about your mischief and before you quote 'life is short smile till you still have teeth.' shit tell me how have you been and did you miss your brother?" I could feel him wiggling his eyebrows while saying that. We were kind of telepathic, we could understand each other's moods, actions, thoughts even if we were apart. Even though we were apart each other for about a thousand miles I felt like we were talking to each other face and the phone just being a wall, a barrier. This was the power we twin hold
"I have never been better and yes I miss my brother ...... my brother Ryder." At the other end, I heard muffled voice and the voice of my older brother Ryder saying hey.
"Aww you missed me??" Ryder asked sweetly. I just chuckled at his childishness.
"Yeah I did ry-ry."
"I heard what you did seriously you are the best. Glad my sister takes after me. You have grown up so much, I am so proud of you." I could feel him wiping his fake tear.
"Well I am returning by tomorrow so pick me okay? Obviously, Sam can't he still doesn't have his license and a scared cat like him can't drive." I heard him laughing but soon I heard Sam's protest to speak to me.
"Yeah sis I will, just wait for ry-ry" soon the phone was snatched by Sam.
"No cupcake for you and I even made double chocolate cupcake your favorite for you and the way you are acting maybe I won't be giving you an- " hearing about Sam's cupcake made my mouth water, he was the best chef I knew and I sometimes tried persuade him to got to MasterChef but it was just a hobby for him. Before letting him complete the sentence I cut him off.
"You know how much I love you right Sammy? You are the best brother anyone could ever ask for."
"Trying to bribe me I see; well I am a softie so I forgive you." I grinned with happiness and heard another voice who snatched the phone from Sam
"Ashrina Sara Bethany Cruz would you explain me about your actions in the camp? You have become very naught nowadays Ashrina you are going to get a- "before my mother could complete her lecture I cut the phone and turned towards Daniel and his lips playing an amused smile. My mum had shouted so loudly that even he could hear her.
"So may I leave from this hell?" I asked him
"No I want to talk to you." I nodded for him to continue.
"Have you forgiven you father?" I sighed, my father Asher Cruz is the most complex person I have met. His actions have hurt me and our family many times but I know he does it unknowingly, not purposely but the image he has created due to his serious nature, him being inexpressive, covering himself with power and money had made him an influential person and a person who hides his true nature, his smile, his laughter, his love and his care for us and others. It would be inexact to call me a daddy's girl but I could see some of his walls he has created and the cover which sometimes only I and my mum can understand.
I nodded, how outré my father acts with us but I still love him as he did give me some of the best memories of my life.
"Remember Ashrina every cover has something to cover and a reason for covering it." Daniel said to me with a sad smile.
The sun was soaring high in the sky but it rays were being not reaching us due the overcast like they were covering some soft and warm from the world. This warmness could only be attained by the people who can dodge barriers and have the will to see past these barriers in their true self, into them.
We chatted for a while and soon I left for Yorkshire and bid goodbye to Dan.
The clouds had disappeared and sun was shining bright in the sky showing us its glow. The people who are so close to use are still so far like the sun which looks so close to us but still is so far. I wish the people close to me would be open, show their true colors and smile like they mean it.
