there was a knock at lilia's door, and that's all it took for her heart rate to double and for her palms to begin to sweat. she gulped, stealing once last glance at herself in her mirror before she shut the lights off in her room. each step she took felt shaky, and she wondered why. she'd walked red carpets with ease, yet treading through her living room seemed like an impossible feat.
she grabbed her purse and sunglasses, positioning herself in front of the door. she took a deep breath, trying to settle her nerves as best as she could as her fingers wrapped around the doorknob. time seemed to slow as she twisted it, slowly opening the door.
tom's eyes met hers.
shit, she thought to herself.
tom quickly have her a glance over inconspicuously, a soft smile forming on his lips. he was more than happy to see her, and that was evident by his warm demeanor. he kept his eyes on lilia as she locked her apartment door and they made their way towards the elevator, listening as she ranted about how her smoke alarm wouldn't turn off and she had to climb on the kitchen counter to try and fix it.
her rambles indicated that she was nervous, along with the shuffling of her feet and the way her eyes darted around. tom noticed this. sure, he was nervous too, but he did his best to hide it. after all, they'd been around each other day after day for months on end, yet somehow, this time was different.
it was different because both of them wanted something. they wanted a connection, a relationship, someone to give their heart to.
they'd fallen for each other, and they were finally starting to accept their feelings. this was only the beginning.
once they reached the lobby of the hotel, lilia asked the question, "so, where are we going?"
tom slipped his sunglasses on as he answered her. "there's a small little fair taking place in orange county, i thought that might fun."
lilia placed her own glasses on her face, her eyes widening with excitement. "really? i've never been to a fair."
tom grinned. "neither have i."
the two young adults made their way out of the apartment complex, pushing through the revolving doors and heading towards the uber that awaited them. tom opened the door for lilia, making sure to remember his manners. climbing in beside her, he told the driver their destination, and so they set off.
lilia smiled at tom as the drive began, and her eyes settled on his hand. she reached towards it, intertwining her fingers with his. a lovey-dovey feeling bubbled up inside of her as he gently squeezed her hand. she then looked out the window, letting the streets of los angeles whir by as a blur of colors and shapes.
at the end of the day, lilia couldn't decide what was her favorite part. she enjoyed the funnel cake and fried oreos, she absolutely adored the stuffed bear that tom won for her, and she craved holding his hand as they made their way through the crowds of people, trying to go unnoticed. but truthfully, her favorite part was him. just having him with her made her overjoyed.
lilia and tom were both in too deep, and they both loved it.
