Gently he lay his head down

She casually stroked his dark hair

With her feather light fingers

And there was an uncanny silence
Piercing his heart under the whistling
Of the fall's wind
He hugged her tight
And kissed her the last time
Then ran home like a little boy
Without stopping to look back
She waited for him under the same tree

Till the next season's rain
Hoping to see him somewhere
