I stood in the mirror checking my appearance. My dark blue skinny jeans covered my legs and the slightly over sized button down white shirt was a decent compliment. Not to showy and not to businessy.

"Who am I kidding I look weird." I sighed and dug through my dresser until I found a long white cardigan to throw over the blue striped white tank top I had found in the farthest corner of my closet.

I went back over to the mirror to asses my clothing choice. It was decent to me, my messy hair was different story though. I stared at the waved dark brown monstrosity before dragged a brush through it and braiding it to the side. I was never much for fashion but I was conscious enough of it to look put together when I left my house. Makeup was a huge no-no though. I never came back from that looking prettier. An alarm sounded from my phone to alert me that I needed to put shoes and go make food. After tying up a pair of black high top converse I walked into the hallway and went straight to Taylor's room.

"Wake up it's 7. Time for a shower." I said shaking him.

"5 more minutes."

"Taylor come on get up now you smell weird. You haven't showered in two days."

"Eva go away. I smell fine you smell weird."

I rolled my eyes at his comment and yanked the blanket from him."Up and into the shower now and don't start whining. "

He sighed and sat up. I couldn't help but laugh at the giant cowlick on the side of his head. It pushed his already short hair up more.

"Make me food woman!" He smiled kicking me playfully as he walked past.

I stuck my tongue out at him as he walked into the bathroom and closed the door. He was so mental in the best way and compared to other people's siblings he was a saint. As I walked into the kitchen I sighed at the glass on the floor from a beer bottle. Other than the bottle it seems my father didn't damage our kitchen to much just a few nicks here and there most likely from when the bottle broke. I swept the shards into the dustpan and went back to trying to find something to cook. I sighed seeing only oats and an empty carton off eggs. I would have to tutor some people today and go shopping with the money I get. Tutoring wasn't that bad, it certainly beat watching after little kids until 10 at night. I sifted through the burnt pots and settled with a soup pot that only had minor scorch marks. I scrubbed it hard trying to get the marks off to no avail before pouring water and the little milk we had into the pan to boil. I pulled out the brown sugar and granulated white sugar to sweeten the concoction. When Taylor came into the room he smiled and sat in front of the thick bowl of oatmeal.

"Eva this smells great and look no burnt taste!" He said shoving a spoonful into his mouth.

"Yeah glad you like it, is dad up? He needs to eat."

"I think but not to sure. Aren't you gonna eat?" I smiled and shook my head.

"Dad will need it more plus I'll just eat at school."

He shifted before continuing to eat. I knew he didn't like my decision but he wouldn't argue.

"I'm going to go get him okay? You stay and eat."

I left the room before he could even think to argue with me. I hoped that the study fiasco wouldn't happen again but my stomach churned uncomfortably. I hesitated before opening the door to his bedroom. He had fallen asleep in work clothes again. The light created a shadow that caused him to look older and more worn. The fact that he stunk of alcohol and cigarettes didn't help either. I slowly approached the bed as to try and not startle him.

"Dad? I made food it's all ready." I mumbled squeezing his arm.

"Evelyn what time is it? I thought I told you stay away from me." He said turning his head to me squinting at the light.

"I know but you need to eat dad and bathe."

"Go away Evelyn. I don't want to I just want to lay here and feel sorry for myself."

"Dad get up we need you to go out job hunting today. I know you feel shitty but you have to get up."

I waited for his response or abuse but he sat up and scratched at the matted brown hair a top his head.

"How long do you have until Nick picks you two up?"

"Uhm maybe 30 minutes why?"

I watched as he removed his black tie and began to undo the buttons on his shirt that weren't aligned anyway. Please don't let this be a repeat of last Friday.

"I don't have the energy to shave and wash my hair so you're going to do it."

"Okay dad."

"While you're at it throw my clothes into the washer too." He said unbuckling his pants and removing them leaving him in nothing but his glasses and boxer briefs.

He walked into his bathroom and tossed his underwear at me before fully closing the door and turning on the water. I went to work picking up empty beer bottles and dirty clothes that had been strewn about the room. I tossed the dirty white shirts into the machine and poured bleach over them. Taylor was now cleaning dishes and texting as I tossed the bottles into the recycling bin.

"Evelyn!"

"Coming dad!" Sometimes he could be so high maintenance.

The door to his bathroom was wide open as I walked into the dark room again. I opened the curtains to let some light into the now clean sky blue room. When I stepped into the bathroom I saw my father sitting on the edge of the bathtub staring down at the floor. He didn't look clean at all.

"Dad." I said hoping he'd look up.

"Just wash my damn hair and shave me then you can go to school."

"Dad you'll be fine today now look up I don't want to get shampoo in your eyes."

He looked up and watched as I poured the white shampoo into my hands and rubbed.  I took the bubbly lather to his hair and began working it into the mess. My nose scrunched seeing the bubbles turn a light grey the more I scrubbed. When was the last time he bathed? I shook my head and carefully stepped between his legs. My small hands began scrubbing the back of his head clean.

"Evelyn are you trying to scalp me?" He said with the smallest hint of a smile.

"Well pig pen. This is what happens when you get cleaned."

I watched as he laughed but quickly became serious again, "Evelyn? I'm sorry about the other day. It's just really hard right now. I need someone and seeing you look so much like her really messes with me especially when intoxicated."

"It's okay dad. I know that it's difficult right now. Head back. We will find a way to get through it."

He stayed quiet while I ran warm water through his hair expelling the dirt and oils. I grabbed the shampoo and once again scrubbed his head just to ensure the grime was all gone. I took the liberty of pouring a small amount of conditioner into his hair too.

"Hey Eva?"

"Yes dad?"

"Stay late and shower with me? Not to be gross or anything like that I just... I just need someone here."

I bit down on my lip this was a horrible idea. I didn't mind staying here and making sure he looked good for employers but the shower was definitely a no go.

"I'll stay but I won't shower with you."

"Then just stay here in the bathroom while I shower okay?"

I nodded and sat down leaning up against the wall. I sent a text Taylor explaining why I would be staying here and not going to school. I kept my eyes on the floor while he showered if he wasn't my dad he might actually be good looking. For the most part I looked like my mother same body type same nose, same hair type. I wish I had inherited my father's olive skin tone but I guess that was a perk of being an all most full blooded Greek. I am happy that I got my mother's heavily saturated dark green eyes though, my father's were just the standard dark brown. My dad was extremely good looking though I knew because there wasn't a single day when women wouldn't break their necks trying to follow him down the streets of Pittsburgh. It was actually quite funny because he wouldn't even glance at any woman but my mother even now he doesn't like looking at women much. I hadn't realized that I was staring at him until he tossed a toothpaste cap at my head.

"What are you thinking of? You don't just space so what's up?"

"Just thinking about mom and you. Even after she died and said it'd be okay to move on you still never look at other women. Why?"

"I... I find someone else attractive but it's not like I can just go and date her. "

"Seriously?! Who is it?!" I was ecstatic to hear that until I saw him look and me and look away with a face full of guilt. "Oh."

"I hate myself for looking at you like that and I don't know why I do. Maybe it's because you were the only person there for me when Alicia died but it's still not right."

"It's okay dad. Don't worry I don't hate you for it. Maybe when you get a job you'll find someone you love just as much as mom."

He smiled and turned to me "You've always been my cheerleader. I'm almost done so then you can shave me. Can you go put my shirts in the dryer while I finish up?"

"Yeah of course." I stood and left the room.

This dad was the one I'd known all my life. I glanced at the clock and was surprised to see that Nick would have only just left with Taylor. After I started drying the now clean shirts I went to the kitchen and poured the remaining oatmeal from the pot into a bowl and placed it into the microwave. While waiting for it to finish I cleaned out pot and when it beeped I took the warm bowl and a spoon upstairs and placed it on my father's desk.

"You ready for me to take care of the that?" I smiled watching him inspect the stubble covering his jaw.

"Yeah here." He said handing me a razor and shaving cream.

I loosely painted over the hairs with the cream and wet the razor. As I dragged it across his face he watched me content. I was better at shaving him for the simple fact my mother had done it for him he never much worried about facial hair when they met seeing as how he was 18 and she was 16. He was 36 now and still didn't know how to shave without cutting himself repeatedly. He couldn't properly fix his tie either. I shook my head at his curious gesture and wiped the excess cream off of his face. He looked younger now that he was clean shaven and just plain clean.

"Thank you sweety." He smiled kissing my forehead.

"Anytime dad. Now go get clothes on I'll get your shirts."

His clothes smelled great and were stain free now. I quickly set to work ironing one of the cotton button downs. My father came up behind me and hugged me tight when I finished.

"I can't wait to have food like that every morning and look I actually look like an almost ready business man." He said taking the shirt and putting it on.

His grey business suit complimented his skin making him look even more prepared for an interview. I watched as he fumbled with his tie before I swatted his hands away and tied it properly.

"Alright I'll drop you off and then be on my way." He said grabbing a brief case I hadn't seen in forever.

I grabbed my handmade dark beige back pack and slung it over my shoulder before stepping outside and heading to the old car. I pulled open the passenger side and smiled as my dad pulled out of our driveway.

I waved to my dad as he pulled away before quickly turning and running into the school building. I grabbed a late pass and skipped steps until I found my homeroom. I slowed and caught my breath before entering the room. People stared but I didn't mind it's what they always did when someone was late, today the victim just happened to be me. I sat down in the empty desk in front of a guy that had fallen asleep. How anyone could fall asleep on the first day baffled me slightly.

"Good morning. Is everyone here now? I think, okay! Nice to see you all most of you have probably seen me around town all of your life except maybe... the boy sleeping. Evelyn could you wake him?" My overweight extremely sweet teacher said.

I turned and shook his arm slightly. He adjusted but it didn't wake him. I tired again but harder.

"Hey get up."

"Go away."

I rolled my eyes and ran cold fingers down the back of his neck. He shivered and quickly sat up glaring at me. Slowly he brought his hand to his neck and rubbed it.

"Thank you. Now as I was saying most of you know me but for our new town member you probably don't so I'm Ms.Pitken and I'll be your home room teacher and for any of you that have Calc I also teach that."

I heard the guy behind me sneer and put his head back down. It annoyed me slightly seeing as how she was the nicest teacher this school has. I choose to ignore it though.

"Now the bell is about to ring so have a nice day."

I sat still and waited for the bell before walking up to Ms.Pitken. She turned and smiled at me.

"Hi Evelyn. How's your father?"

I shrugged softly, "He's so-so. I got him to go job hunting today so I hope that works out. I actually wanted to know if you had my schedule, I ran late because I was helping my father."

"Oh yes! Here you go dearie. Now off you go."

I thanked her and left the room to find my locker to throw my gym clothes into. I smiled seeing Nick opening a locker next to mine.

"Hey, I wanted to thank you for taking Taylor to school for me."

"Of course Eve. You don't think I'd make him walk right?" He smiled

"Get a room." I know that voice.

I turned and saw the rude boy from homeroom shoving everything but a note book and pen into his locker.

"You're just a ray of sunshine aren't you?" I said opening my locker.

"I like to think of myself more as a thunderstorm of reality."

I rolled my eyes and placed my gym clothes from my bag into the metal storage. I placed a lock I'd had since middle school onto the locker and pulled it softly to make sure it was secure.

"So Eve what class do you have next?" Nick said eying the 'emo' boy.

"Uhm... I have a study period."

"Good so do I you can show me around." The boy behind me smiled putting his arms around my shoulder.

"Yeah sure." I said dryly.

Nick stared at his hand draped over my shoulder "Could you step off?"

"Excuse me? Is this guy your boyfriend?"

"No he's not b-"

"Ooo man she just reduced you to the friend zone."

"And you're about to be reduced to the fuck off zone." I smiled swatting his hand away.

"Yeah yeah. Let's just get on with the tour."

I waved to Nick as the boy tugged me away. Who the heck did he think he was? As soon as we turned the corner he let go of my wrist.

"What the hell was that?! Who do you think you are?!"

"I'm Lucas and let me guess you're a cheerleader slut?"

"Tch. Far from it if you must know I'm math nerd."

"Ohhh so you're the bitchy virgin. Now I get it."

I was a few seconds away from punching this guy's jaw in. He knew nothing about me and I'll be damned if I let him. I turned and began walking away from him I needed to get away from this rude imbecile.

"Awe c'mon doll face can't handle little joke?" He smirked following close behind me.

"Can you go away? I don't associate with assholes." I said turning the corner and leaving him.

After that encounter I needed to retreat to make shift sanctuary in the A/V room. Since it was the old room no one ever came in here just me. I sat my bag down on a desk and locked the door behind me. I really didn't feel up to anyone possibly walking in here. The floor had become dusty in the last few months that I hadn't been here to clean it. I grabbed the cleaning supplies in the metal closet and quickly began sweeping up. By the time I'd actually finished cleaning the room the bell was about to ring which saddened me I really missed my collection of movies. I sighed and placed the cleaning supplies away before leaving the room and locking the door.

When I reached my locker the rude boy was no where in sight which comforted me. I did not want to deal with him often. I tugged my schedule out and smiled softly seeing calculus as my next class. I couldn't wait to be among other intellectuals if there was one thing I loved about myself if was definitely my brain. I don't think I've ever seen a bad mark on my grade. As I walked back into Ms.Pitken's room my smiled dissipated seeing the rude white haired boy sitting there dozing in the back of the class. I sat as far away from him as I could by choosing to sit adjacent the window in the front row. I turned and assessed my other classmates most of which I knew by name others only face. There was only about 15 of us which was nice considering it meant less hands will be raised for stupid questions. My thoughts silenced at Ms.Pitken's voice.

"Hi everyone welcome to Calculus I'm your teacher well that is pretty obvious but any who today starts your first day of calculus so we'll open with some ice breakers." She said sitting on her oak wood desk that was nailed into the floor.

"Can everyone come closer? Lucas could you join the group?" She smiled pointing to the desk directly next to me.

I watched a small sneer catch his lip as he sat down next to me. Fuuu- I moved as far away from him as my seat allowed. I really hoped this icebreaker didn't last long so he could return back from whence he came.

"So let's go around and say our names and maybe a favorite singer or band? Who wants to go first? How abouuut you!" She said staring directly at Lucas.

"Seriously? Tch whatever I'm Lucas and System of a down." He said with more attitude than a prissy trophy wife.

His taste in music was decent though. I watched as familiar faces said their names and typical favorite bands I didn't much care for, before the circle finally reached me.

"Hey, name's Evelyn and Fall Out Boy is the band I like most."

I watched as the white haired boy raised an intrigued pierced brow at me. "And here I thought you'd love Mozart or some shit."

"Sorry to disappoint although Mozart's music is pretty good I'm more of a rock or metal girl." I said smirking at him.

"Well since you two are getting along so well let's pair you up for our project due in a month." Ms.Pitken smiled generally unaware of our quick distaste of each other.

"You're kidding me right? I do NOT want to work with her for an entire month." He growled toward her.

"Yeah, I refuse to be held back by some idiot that probably cheated to get into this course. " I smiled at him.

Two can play at this game and I'll play better. He rolled his eyes for the hundredth time since I met him and shook his head. This was already not going well and I know it'll only get worse.

"Well then this will be perfect for both of you. You can teach him some manners and you can finally make friends." She smiled clearly trying to embarrass us and it actually worked.

"I have friends..." I grumbled half glaring at her.

"Nick doesn't count Evelyn, unless he develops multiple personality disorder."

Everyone laughed at that remark. Can today just end? I just wanted a peaceful senior year and end it by never having to see ninety percent of these people again. I don't even want to be at graduation it's just a way to promote people's ego for doing what is required of them. It's like celebrating a man consistently coming in to work. Then again some people won't do anything without being able to have recognition for it.

"Hey bitchy virgin. Wanna snap out of your damn thoughts and rejoin humanity?" He sneered.

"Damn and I was so hoping I could telepathically make you implode."

"Evelyn! Apologize to him!"

"Seriously Ms.Pitken? He should be able to take a little teasing or can he only tease me?"

She opened her mouth and shut it quickly. It's not how I wanted to say that but at least my point was made clear. I dislike speaking to adults rudely but they're so oblivious at times. This guy definitely brings out the worst in me.

"Well like it or not you two are partners. "

The rest of the class went by in silence while she briefed us on our projects. She didn't bother explaining to me or Lucas though, she knew I could read a paper without having to ask a million questions. As I read through the paper my heart jumped into my throat. We were working with geometry for this project and needed to build something out of our ideas.

"Now looking at this paper you'll see it will take over a month to do all this so your diagram of your build is due by this month. The actual build is due in two months. Have a good day." She smiled as the bell rang.

As I left the room annoyed, Lucas followed close on my heels.

"So Evelyn-"

"Don't address me like that. Evelyn is such an old person name."

"Okay, Evey you want to build a clock?"

"Where's the snarky comment?" I asked looking behind me.

"Up your ass apparently." He murmured still following.

"There it is. Now I'm going to my next class bye bye. " I said grabbing my gym clothes and heading to the locker room.

Gym had nothing interesting going on and neither did my English class at this rate I would die of boredom. Thankfully lunch was next, Nick smiled and waved me over to the table where he and the other football players sat. I always sat there despite the glares from the cheerleaders, trivial matters such as dating never phased me. I hadn't realized how hungry I was until I smelled the food I should probably take more care to eat but sometimes as an adult you sacrifice things. I took the cardboard pizza back to my seat and began to eat while the room morphed into incoherent sounds because of the rabble. Nick smiled towards me and pushed an unfinished salad my way.

"Here I didn't want it."

"Fanks." I said taking the salad with a full mouth.

"You know Evelyn you're like Nick's puppy, always eating his leftovers." Chelsea smiled truly believing her remark bothered me at all.

I swallowed and opened my mouth "Yeah that is true but maybe you need this more after all sleeping with every team captain must have you all out of energy."

I watched as she stormed off clearly offended at the truth everyone had know for months. I really didn't get why that phased her but then again I didn't care for her either. School was essentially torture when it came to other people, if I could learn everything by myself I would but people want a piece of paper to prove it.

"Eva wasn't that just a little harsh? I mean I know for a fact her comment didn't phase you so why did you respond so rudely?"

"I wonder."

Nick sighed at my flat answer "Just try and stay out of trouble okay?"

"Yeah sure. I'm going to go now, later." I smiled taking the salad with me to the stairs.

I stopped upon seeing Lucas and a blonde melded together. Get a room. He smirked toward me as they slid over to let me by. Man he was childish.

Finally school had ended but sadly my day didn't. I didn't see Taylor at all today making me a little nervous. I began looking for him and spotted him talking to a boy I had never seen before.

"Eva! I was just talking about you, this is Jonas he just moved here." Taylor smiled as I walked over.

"Nice to meet you I'm Evelyn welcome to town." I said extending my hand. "I'm surprised so many people would move here."

"Huh somebody else moved here recently? Wait do they have white hair?" He asked shaking my hand back.

"Yeah, that's your-."

"Yeah my older brother Lucas." He smiled a little to proudly.

I couldn't help but scrunch my nose. Maybe his brother was only an ass to me. I sighed and put my hand on Taylor's shoulder.

"Nick is out front, I have to see if anyone needs tutoring. Have Alice make you a sandwich please? If I'm not home before you you know the drill."

"You tutor? Think you could help me I mean I'd ask my brothers but then we'd just wind up gaming. My mom will pay you."

"Sure no problem." I smiled.

Jonas grinned in return and gave me his mother's number to arrange when would be best before leaving. I walked Taylor to Nick's car and waved as they left.

I knew that no one needed tutoring on the first day but I didn't want to go home yet. I sighed and walked back into the school honestly I had no idea what I would do but going home was really something I wanted to avoid. I didn't actually expect my father to come home with a job today either but it wasn't his fault it was the economy's. I sighed and walked toward my A/V room I could at least kill an hour with a movie. As I approached the room I could hear Orphan playing, by far my favorite movie. It was still weird that anyone was in here I thought I locked the door. I opened the door and instantly regretted it.

"Get out now. Both of you." I said clicking off the projector.

Lucas sat with a completely topless Chelsea on his lap. I watched as he buried his face in her chest.

"Why? Wish it were you here?"

"Hardly, I don't sell myself so cheaply nor do I fuck every notable male that's willing to have me." I smiled tossing his boots at him and her shirt toward her.

"Aren't you a virgin?" Lucas asked directing his attention to her.

Chelsea sucked her pearly white teeth and got off of him. "Whatever you're a fag anyway!"

"Not everyone that wants to feel something is fag tire twat." I mumbled as she left causing Lucas to laugh slightly.

"Wow bitchy virgin has quite the tongue doesn't she?"

I rolled my eyes at him and placed my bag beside the large brown desk. He stared at me as I moved around unplugging and moving parts of the projector. I planned on taking a nap if he'd ever leave.

"Don't you have something to do besides stare at me?" I said standing with crossed arms.

"If I did I sure as hell wouldn't be near you."

"Then just go home, didn't exactly invite you in."

"You know you're nicer when you're with other guys." He said, finally putting his boots on.

"Well you haven't done anything to deserve my kindness." I shrugged taking the braid out of my hair and fluffing it.

He stared at me as I did so before rudely reaching out and touching my hair. Clearly boundaries were nowhere in his dictionary.

"Do you mind?" I hissed swatting his large hand away.

"No, clearly you do though. No wonder you're a virgin. Later Evey~."

Ugh, he's such an annoying prick. I'd be amazed if he even had one brain cell that wasn't attached to his dick. How could Ms. Pitken bind me to that thing? I never thought I would hate a math class until today. All to late I'd realized that half of my precious time was spent on him. I sighed and looked at my iPhone as it began to ring. I honestly didn't need this fancy of a phone but Nick thought differently when he gave it to me on Christmas.

"Hey Taylor, what's up?" Usually he didn't call which left me skeptical of the reason.

"Alice said it would be okay to stay over , can I? Nick said we could play games and talk about guy stuff."

That means I'd have to take my father's attitude on alone. Then again it was almost like that anyway. "Okay. Have fun okay?"

"Thanks Eva!"

If dinner wasn't done after what was probably a really bad day my father would definitely drink. I needed to go. I stopped as I hit into a someone dressed in all black. I didn't understand why he was back.

"Sorr- Why are you here again?"

"Not for your ugly ass. I forgot my keys." Lucas said moving me aside and showing his clearly new car keys. "Don't let the shadows bite."

"W-wait... Can you drop me off in town?" Pride slowly seeped out of my body with each word.

"Don't you have a car?"

"We can't afford more than one. Listen can you drop me off or not?"

"Sure, but-"

"But what?" He is going to be a dick again isn't he?

"You owe me one." Not what I expected.

"Okay that's fine. I'll give you directions to town."

He stood close as I turned off the lights and locked the door to the room. It wasn't exactly late but still I needed to get home and cook. What I did not know, it wasn't like we had food in the house. I would figure it out though, I'm not an idiot.

"Here put it on." Lucas handed me a matte black shielded helmet. "Now get on and don't let go of me."

I followed his instructions to a T, no way was I dying with him. Other than me giving directions the ride was quiet which was comforting to me. Before I knew it we were there in front of the grocery store everyone in town went to. It wasn't big but it had everything the people around here needed and if not Crosby's was only just a few miles on the highway. I'd known the owners for years which made interactions easy.

"Thank you for this." I said handing the helmet back and quickly walking away before any conversation could in sue.

"Evelyn? My God I haven't seen you in while. Come come let's go to my office and we'll talk."

I followed the greying woman I'd known my whole life into her office. She was tall and thin with an orange skin tone you could clearly see did not belong. Her fake breasts and botoxed face was one you couldn't help but remember. Despite all this she was sweet and a good friend of my mother. Everyone swore she was a gold digger when she married John Parsons but she truly loved the overweight Santa looking man.

"So darlin' how're you? How's your father?"

"Still unemployed and still holding us together. Pittsburgh hasn't been kind to him. "

"Do y'all need any cash? I told your Momma, God rest her soul, I'd look after you two but I haven't seen y'all in forever. "

"No. Food would be great though, do you have anything about to expire?"

"Expire? No chance Evelyn Lasko! You're goin' shopping like you would and it's free. Johnny won't have no problem with it if he wants to stay married."

She always confused me and made me smile when she talked about Mr.Parsons. Still I couldn't help but feel she was doing more than I could return in the near future. I can't really refuse the offer though, we had nothing in the house.

"Alright thank you." I walked out of the office with a dent in my pride and an inkling of happiness.

I felt worse and worse the more I shopped. My pride was what I had and this was destroying it. Was it worth it to just put everything back and deal with my father? Probably not. I would have deal with him one way or another, might as well get food out of it.

By the time I had finished shopping it was closing and I had no idea how I was getting all this to my house. Maybe I could get a ride. Who knows, clearly not I. I smiled and left the store, bags in hand. To my surprise and annoyance Lucas was still standing there.

"Took you long enough. Get on the bike so I can go home."

"Why would I get on so you can get home?"

"So you're going to walk all that shit to your house then?"

He had a point as I handed his impatient hand groceries to put in the bike. I did not understand this side of him. As I got on the bike and once again clung to close for comfort onto him we drove away and toward my shambled house. A gross feeling I could only attribute to embarrassment came to my throat and rose the closer we were to my house.

"Thanks..." I said taking the bags and walking into my house.

The door wouldn't close with his boot in the way. "Why are you in my house?"

"I gotta piss, show me the bathroom."

"Upstairs." Was spoken by me with a large hiss of annoyance.

The demand would frustrate any human being. His demeanor was one that I could not began to understand why girls would love. Maybe they were still children trying to rebel against their families. I don't feel as though he would be the type that hates his family and the emo thing seemed like an act to get attention.

"Hey Evelyn." My father's voice forced me to jump, Lucas being here would not end well.

"Here." He had to come down now? "It's my number. Later Evey~"

I whimpered feeling my father's hand grip my shoulder harder than necessary. What would it be tonight?

"Who is he? Is he your boyfriend Evelyn?!"

"Dad no way. Him? Seriously?" His grip lessened if only for a second. "He is no one dad so please stop. Go shower and I will bring some food and I can rub your shoulders or something."

"Then why did he give you his number?!" I could tell mindless anger was starting to cloud his consciousness and nothing good came from that ever.

"Dad please just calm do-" My sentence was silenced by a harsh slap to my face.  Where was Taylor when I needed him?

The throbbing in my head when I woke up on the couch was almost a comforting feeling with the amount of times it had been there. I slowly worked my way to the bathroom Taylor and I shared. The inflamed lip and purple eye were nothing out of the ordinary either. The blood in my hair was new though I guess the demons won and he finally came back at some point otherwise the floor would have been my mattress for the night. After cleaning off the wounds I went to the one place a sane person would avoid, his bedroom where he sat head in hands mumbling to himself.

"Dad?" Barely able to walk from the migraine I went to his side. "Dad?"

He flinched at my touch making it seem like I had hit him previously.

"Get away from me Evelyn...I'll only beat you again..."

"No you won't, look at me dad." He had to force himself to look at my bruised face and swollen lip, literally force himself. "I am dizzy and not able to even think properly right now, try not to speak too much. I have nothing going on between me and Lucas. He gave me his number for our calculus project."

"So I? For no reason? Evelyn I'm so-"

"Stop talking my head hurts. You are going and getting me an ice pack from the freezer and then shutting the hell up and spending quiet time with me. Like you would mom, minus the sex."

I sat in his bed waiting for my ice pack and whatever else I know he would try and bring me. Hopefully some ibuprofen laced with Z-quill.  The z-quill was no where to be seen however there was an egg and ice water in hand along with painkillers and ice. My father sat awkwardly at the edge of the bed watching me eat the food he had decently prepared.

I summoned him to my side after finishing the plate. "Come here, lay down, face me." He did as told and I quickly wrapped my arms around him holding his face close to my chest.

I stayed silent as he cupped my ass in one hand and placed the other around my back. Thank god this town has the most abhorring child services ever, not one person would refrain from dialing the precinct for how we were laying. My father was sick and I fully acknowledged it, maybe I developed Stockholm syndrome. I sighed in relief as he moved his hand and wrapped his arm around me. It wasn't long before he was asleep and I lie unsure of whether or not to desert him. I decided against it after a battle with my conscious she was usually right, not as though I ever listened to her. I battled boredom with sleep that was much deserved.
