I felt Oliver's breathe on my skin as I looked into his eyes, quite stunned.

"What are you doing?" I whispered to him.

"Something that will probably destroy everything."

My eyes widened. What did he mean by that?

"I'm going to think of myself high and mighty for once," Oliver smirked at me, quoting what I said to him earlier. "And say I'm glad in a way that you're not marrying him."

"What?" I mumbled out. "I'm hurt about it. I turned down someone who truly cared and loved me. I shot him down. I saw he was in pain tonight because of me." I glared at him before peeling myself off the wall and storming inside to my room, slamming the door.

How inconsiderate of him! I thought to myself. I'm in pain over this. I curled myself on my bed and for the first time since last Monday, I cried over Percy.

****

I sat on the uncomfortable chair, staring out the massive windows as I watched the planes land and take off.

Cody's plane will be here in a couple minutes. I made sure I was sitting in the correct part as I waited for him.

Oliver asked me to pick Cody up, but I didn't know if he was flying alone again or not. I could ring Oliver to ask, but that involves a voluntary conversation. That was not happening.

I watched a small plane land and taxi in before me. This must be it. I looked at the screen. Yep. I didn't realise how fast the time has flown since I've been here, waiting. I went to a toy store here, and it was dearer here than any shopping centre. I picked up a replica plane that he would be on. It was only the size of my hand, but it was my peace offering.

I was nervous upon seeing him. Oliver had whisked him away while and Cody and I were on a bad note.

I watched people leave the doorway as I kept my eyes out for the kid. I was expecting him to be holding the hand of a flight attendant or even a pilot, and as outrageous as that sounded, I wouldn't be surprised.

Finally I saw the floppy brown hair of Cody. His hair had grown a bit more to the length I liked. He was smiling and looking up at an older lady. She beamed down at him. Next to her was an older male.

I froze.

They... Aren't.... Flight.... Attendants....

My heart raced. The lady was tall and slender, her short brown hair pinned in perfectly as she wore lady pants and a pale pink blouse. The male was taller and his aging black hair had streaks of grey. He had a grey moustache and wore dress pants and a buttoned up white shirt.

He looked a little bit like...

Oh crap.

"Monty!" I heard the high pitched squeal as the boy ran to me. I bent down and hugged Cody tightly.

"Monty! I missed you! Uncle Ollie wouldn't let me talk to you! I rang every night!" I heard Cody sob.

I soothed him as I played with his hair. "Hey, sweetheart. I missed you too!" I smiled as I pulled Cody away. "Now let's have a look at you."

I examined Cody and playfully eyed him as I looked on his left side and then his right side.

"Um, yeah. Just as I expected!"

"What?"

I shook my head playfully. "You've grown! Can't you see how much higher you've gotten?" I tickled him in his ribs as he giggled. I gave him the small aeroplane and he thanked me. I stood up and faced the older couple.

I took my hand out and introduced myself.

But I didn't need to. They knew who I was.

"So this is the infamous Monty?" The lady eyed me as a small smile appeared. "I'm Mrs Black."

My heart fled. I was right. I smiled broader at them.

"Mr and Mrs Black, hello."

Mr Black shook my hand. "Monty. I'm glad we can finally put a face to the name. Please, call me Richard."

Richard smiled at me and I kind of felt at ease.

I took Cody's hand and we walked to the baggage carousel.

"Mr Black never told me that you were coming in." I attempted to start a conversation.

"Oh, yes, Oliver gets like that. Too wrapped up in his work."

I had to agree.

"But I never actually confirmed that we would be this time. It's been a while since we have been down here." Mrs Black insinuated.

We waited for their luggage and went to my car. I had placed Cody's car seat back in and strapped him up.

Richard sat up front with me as Cody's grandmother sat next to him.

"Monty?"

"Yes?" I called out to Cody.

"Tomorrow my birthday!" He half shouted.

WHAT? I kept my cool and pretended that I knew all along. "No." I joked at him. "That's not right. You had a birthday last year! I told you, you're only allowed one every couple of years, to stop you from growing!"

Cody laughed in his seat as I turned the corner.

"That's silly, Monty."

"Yes, Cody has been looking forward to this for a while now." Richard chuckled at Cody.

I had no idea. I'm going to kill him!

We finally made it home and I held Cody's hand as we walked in the front door. "I'll let Mr Black know that you're here." I smiled calmly.

I knocked lightly on the study door and slipped in, closing and locking the door behind me. I checked his glass door that led to the patio, good, the curtain concealed us.

"Yes?" Oliver looked up at me.

This is the first time all day I have gone out of my way to talk to him. But I have hardly been home. I did a large food shop before getting Cody. I didn't even see him when I came home to put the groceries away.

"Cody is back."

"Well I'm glad that you confirmed that, otherwise you wouldn't be standing there."

Smart ass.

"Fun fact." I smiled broadly. "People tend to celebrate their birthdays yearly."

Oliver typed away on his laptop. "If I recall, we did celebrate your birthday. I'm assuming you know how it ended."

I flinched. That was the night Percy proposed to me. But I didn't linger on it. I watched as Oliver stopped typing and looked at me, a slight horror on his face.

"Yeah. You didn't tell me. I've got nothing!" I wanted to scream at him. I can't stay in here too long.

"Oh no."

"Oh yes." I mimicked his loud whisper.

"Quickly go and buy him something. I'll keep him entertained.

I shrugged my shoulders. "Fine." I went to the door to lead back into the entertainment room and unlocked it. "Oh, on another note, just to shake things up," Oliver by now had his head back in his laptop.

"What is it. One bombshell a week. You've already dropped two this week."

I ignored his comment. "Your parents are here." I saw the horror return on his face as I smirked and quickly rushed out off the room.

It was just after lunch and had inquired about them eating, but they ate before they got on the plane.

I went to the car and drove to the shops. I had to get stuff and now! From Oliver and from me.

I thought about what Oliver had said, about two bombshells.

One was Cody's fourth birthday what was the other one? I knitted my brows together as I parked the car at the parking lot under a shopping centre.

Then it dawned on me.

No!

Surely not!

Did he mean me saying I refused Percy's proposal?

Monty has now met Oliver's parents.

Thank you.
