chapter four: "the one with the phone call"

I WOKE UP IN AN UNFAMILIAR BED with the sound of voices laughing in the other room. Standing up out of the bed, I threw on a hoodie that was laying on the floor, realizing that it was David's signature Clickbait hoodie. I chuckled at myself and fixed my hair a little more, double checking my face before walking out into the living room, finding David, Jason, Trish, and another guy I didn't know the name of.
"Look who's awake, it's only noon!" Jason teased me and I rolled my eyes, David handing me a drink from Starbucks. I thanked him for it and took a sip, feeling instantly happier from the caffeine, "So, did you two finally hook up?" Jason asked again, making me slap him on the arm.
"When will you people realize that Dave and I are just friends," I urged and all Jason did was a laugh. He was the real pain in my ass, forget about Dobrik over here.
"Well, hi, I'm Matt King, I've heard nothing about you," The mystery guy shook my hand and I smiled, shaking it back.
"Stella Dior, friends with David," I explained and Matt smiled, giving David a 'you better' kind of glare. I then turned to David and looked up at him as he was sitting on the counter, "I have to go home, but I will text you because someone might be bailing me out of jail tonight, and you're the one with the money," I joked and everyone nodded their heads and laughed, agreeing with me. I set my coffee down on the counter next to David and went back into the guest bedroom where my stuff was. Opening my bag, I realized I really did angrily back this bag, as I had an outfit I would've never worn before. I threw on the pair of leggings and a crop top shirt, putting on a pair of flip-flops before heading back to where everyone was.
"Why don't I just go with you? Just in case she tries something?" Dave asked me and I shook my head, grabbing my phone off of the charger in the living room, seeing a ton of messages from Jade, Dom, Chelsea, and my parents. I ignored them and packed the rest of my stuff, looking over at everyone, "Let me go with you, please?" David asked and I shook my head once again.
"No, I'm not letting you get dragged into this, plus, as great as you are, it'll probably make it worse," I explained and went to walk over to grab my coffee.
"Why would I make it worse?" David asked, Jason's eyes went wide and I laughed at his reaction.
"David, you're psycho!" Jason yelled and I put my hand on Jason's chest telling him to relax while looking back at David.
"No, it'll make it worse because the fight started about you?" I mumbled towards the end, hoping he didn't really hear me. David then gasped and told me to explain, so I did, "Yes, Dom and Jade were hooking up loudly. Yes, I went in and told them to shut up, but, Jade really got mad because I've been spending a lot of time with you and your friends and she felt left out."
David looked at me confused, "But, you've invited her out with us and she's said no, every time," he explained and I nodded my head, "If you need anything just call me, okay?" he questioned and I nodded my head, saying goodbye to everyone and embarking on this journey I knew I was going to want to leave.
Arriving at the apartment was very calm, Jade was making breakfast for herself in the kitchen and didn't even look at me, "Jay, we're going to have to talk eventually, so why not do it now?" I explained and sat at our little island in the kitchen, Jade sighing and sitting across from me, "I know what I did last night was wrong, and I'm sorry, but I was just over-tired and wanted to go to bed," I explained and Jade nodded her head, seemed to be able to accept my apology.
"Did you go to David's?" she smirked and I looked at her confused, "I only kicked you out because I knew Gabbie was asleep and you needed to get laid," she shrugged off and I looked at her shocked.
"Jade!" I screamed at her, beyond belief that she actually said that, "You're joking!" I screamed once again and laughed at the end because the humor was the only thing keeping me away from killing her.
"Nope, but did my plan work?" she asked and I shook my head once again, glaring at her, "What?! I was just trying to help you out," she shrugged off once again, making me even more confused.
"I'm driving over the boy's house now, do you want to come or not?" I explained and started walking over to my bedroom, expecting her to say no, but she actually said yes, "I'm leaving in twenty minutes," I smiled and sat down at my vanity, starting to do my makeup and get ready for today.
We got to the boy's house right on schedule, and Jade seemed to be more excited than I was. I was kind of nervous about that, knowing everywhere we went Jade always wanted to find a new boy-toy for herself. She got bored easily. I opened the door and walked inside, finding no one in the house. Walking towards the back of the house, I heard everyone in the bathroom screaming.
"What are you bufoons doing right now?" I asked and all David did was swing his camera back over to me.
"Jason, I'll show what it is to Stella and if she says it's okay, I'll put it on you," David explained and I looked at him confused but decided to go along with it anyways. Dave then pulled out a brand new MacbookPro, making my eyes go wide and then tear up a little bit because it was so sweet.
"David, no, I don't like this," I then explained and Jason freaked out, but David managed to get him back down and onto the ground with the blindfold. I sighed and watched as they laid the box down on Jason's chest, him already freaking out. I looked behind me and saw Jade, who was laughing as hard as everyone else.
"David, get it off of me! David get it off!" Jason screamed and I started laughing even harder. Jason then pulled off his blindfold and saw the box, his eyes wide and his cheeks red from embarrassment. I couldn't help but laugh a little bit more. Jason then stood up and gave David a hug, thanking him. For some reason, I was really excited about Jason getting this new laptop.
"Stella is crying, this is clickbait everywhere!" Toddy yelled and pulled out his camera, filming what was going down right now. I shrugged and wiped the tears that fell.
"It's just sweet, ya know? As much as David says he hates Jason, he still does these really sweet things for him, and its, just," I rambled and everyone laughed, Scotty speaking up with a laugh.
"I got Jason a laptop & made Stella cry?!" he yelled out and David then grabbed me, pulling me into the bathroom.
"Scotty, I'm stealing your clickbait!" David yelled and handed me a tissue box.
"You got your clickbait! Jason being an asshole!" I screamed and Jason yelled back 'hey' in a defensive way.
"You're never done making clickbait baby!" David yelled at me and I rolled my eyes, pretending to still be crying my eyes out. David then told me I was okay and went to walk away, but I grabbed his wrist and pulled him back to face me.
"Can we go get something to eat? Please?" he nodded his head and we walked back to where the rest of the group was, Dave, grabbing his wallet, looking over at all his friends.
"Ella and I are going to get some food, does anyone else want anything?" he questioned and Zane raised his hand, along with Jason and Trish, "You guys want to come?" David questioned and the three of them stood up, following us.
"Jade, you don't have to stay here, you can come with us," I explained and heard David let out a sigh behind me. Jade then shook her head, "I'll see you when I get back then," I explained and Jade nodded her head, following the new group of people into the backyard.
We got into the car, I hop into the backseat and Zane riding shotgun, "Zane, get out, Stella sits shotgun," David explained and I couldn't help but laugh, "What? She gets carsick," David explained and I nodded my head, he wasn't lying when he said that. I then climbed through the middle of the two front seats, sitting down passenger like I usually did.
"Hey guys, welcome to Driving with Stella, today we have a John Legend song," David explained and then blasted 'You & I' by John Legend. Every time I heard this song all I wanted to do was cry, it was so sweet.
I laughed at David's face when he played the song, I sit up and sing along to the song, everyone recording me. I didn't really care as I knew it would be fun for them, as well as myself. Soon the final chorus hit, and just to make the video a little more fun, I grabbed ahold of David's hand and turned to face him, David blushing a deep red, "All of the stars, they don't shine brighter than you are, Ain't nobody in the world but you and I, You and I, You and I, Nobody in the world tonight, Ain't nobody in the world but you and I," I sang, holding right onto David's hand. The song then ended and all David and I could do was laugh along with him. I looked back at everyone, and they all sat there with their cameras in shock.
"I call clickbait dibs!" David yelled out before anyone else, making me giggle and look out the window, seeing we arrived at IHop. We got out of the car and I heard my phone ring, it is my mother. She never called me, like, ever.
I answered it with a sigh, "Hey mum, what's up?" I asked, and it sounded crazy behind her, "Mom? What's going on?" I explained and started to get a little nervous, as she wasn't answering me. Then the line went dead and I decided to call Chelsea right away.
"Chels? What is going on?" I explained and Chelsea then rambled on and on about something, but she was so freaked out I didn't know what happened, "You need to slow down, I don't can't help you if you didn't tell me what's wrong," I explained and Chelsea let out a deep breath. Everyone was looking at me at this point, all with concern in their eyes.
"Our house was robbed Stella, and they got everything. I mean everything," My eyes went wide and I didn't know what to say, "They knocked Dad unconscious, so he's in the hospital right now, Mom says he will be fine, but you didn't see him, Stell, it was bad," Chelsea explained and I still stayed silent, I swear I went into shock, "Can you come home? ASAP?" she asked and I then snapped out of it, nodding my head.
"Of course, I'll get on a plane as soon as I can," I explained and told Chelsea to stay safe and hung up, "Um, change of plans, I have to fly back home, like right now," I explained and everyone looked at me confused, yet concerned at the same time. We then all got back into the car and I was freaking out, I could tell I was. My hands were shaky, my words stuttered out, I didn't know what to do. Once we got back to their house, I apologized a million times for ruining the day. I then walked inside and found Jade in the backyard with the rest of the group.
"Stell? Babe, what happened?" she asked and I pulled her away from everyone, shaking my head, "Stella? What's wrong?" she asked once more, and I just explained to her what had happened. She was as shocked as I was, "You need to go home, now, C'mon, we can go home and pack," she explained and I nodded my head. I walked back to where the group was, David was putting his stuff back into his bag. I tapped him on the shoulder and asked him to step aside for a second, he agreed and I let out a sigh.
"So, um, I'm flying home tonight, I'm not sure for how long though," I started, and he only looked over at me confused, "My house was broken into and robbed today, my dad was knocked unconscious and is in the hospital right now. Doctors say he'll be fine but you never know," I shrugged and fiddled with my hands, trying to calm myself down.
"Is Chelsea okay? Your mother?" he asked and I couldn't help but crack a smile as he said that.
"Yeah, just shocked, and scared really," I explained and he nodded his head, "But, Jade and I are gonna head out, I bought a flight for six PM so I need to rush around, I will text you when I land, okay?" I explained and David nodded his head, wrapping his arms around me tightly. I felt safe in his arms, everytime he hugged me. No matter how long or how short, it was always the same feeling. I then pulled away and said goodbye to the others, Jade being the one to drive the two of us home. Here goes nothing.
